So that's it then, the long awaited big kick off, well the Saturday portion of it anyhow.
If you where there, how was it for you, did the earth move? There are 3 things that there is no 'bad' for, just 'some better than others', sex, beer and wins. From the reports it was a bit of a clerics egg and the dominant theme STILL seems to be the inability to totally dominate teams at home and kill them off.
But as we are always being told, 'It's the result that counts'... Except in a few cases, I for one, remain unconvinced, that more 'joined-up football' is to be poo-pooed. Were we the only Saturday game NOT on Sky?
Of the games I did get to see, I was appalled at the acres of seats empty at Boro... big up-and-coming club? My arse! Potential transfer target Yakubu (or PR smokescreen if you prefer) didn't get a lot of sevice but played well enough in the linking/forward role, but £10 mill?? He looks like a big Victor clone... or is it the other way round? At that price I hope it is just a smokescreen.
The Sunderland-Spurs game was a huff-and-puff rope-a-dope type of game in which Spurs played to excess the dope part with a laid-back attitude that made Perry Como look like St Vitus! The Black Cats' last-minute goal might turn out to be Premier League money in the points bank come the end of the season. I hope we don't get the backlash on Tuesday.
As to the other main bone of contention, the vote/ground move, I thought that Big Tel's piece was very plausable and may even be true. He sets out his stall on the first page in saying, that in answer to "What's in it for Tesco?" ...well it's £400 mill.
As I havn't got a vote, I hope whoever comes out on top is right.
