Stubbs....the enigmatic fan

Comments (16)

Am I alone in being irritated by Alan Stubbs appearing on the official Club website to say that all he wants from the Kirkby vote is what is best for Everton? Is he talking as a fan or a player? If it is the latter then he has already had his say in the glossy brochure and in that publication he was in favour of Kirkby.

If, however, he is now speaking as a fan then he has most of us at a disadvantage because we cannot place postings on the main page of the Everton website. Is this the same player/fan who was actively encouraging Rooney to leave town on the first available stage three years ago? Will he claim now that he did that in the best interests of EFC?

My opinion (which I have stated before) is that the players are unwise to allow themselves to be seen encouraging fans to produce one particular outcome from the ballot. Their job is to play football and in the case of Stubbs he would be well-advised to spend more time on the training pitch developing (I really mean discovering) his short-passing game. His approach to Kirkby is as subtle as his football and his PR role is not welcomed by this particular fan.

Why wouldnt Stubbs advise Rooney to leave, hes Rooneys mate and probably thought that it was a fantastic move for him (as most others did) and Everton havent exactly suffered since losing him!

I tend to agree. The OS is drip-feeding us the view of "tame" players and fans every week.

How come they didn’t allow Duncan Ferguson to post his views on the OS? Where’s the balance?

I’m sickened by the Club’s approach to this scheme, we don’t deserve to be called The People’s Club any more. Giving us a vote, but then wheeling out as many blues as you can to tell us we’re harming the club if we vote no is two-faced, snide and low.

If everyone else get’s to put forward their "negative" views on the move in various public forums and newspapers etc, then I don’t see why Everton FC cannot put forward their "positive" views via their media outlet.

Or is it a case of one rule for everyone else and another for Everton?

If your dumb enough to place any stock in what a former or current player might say in deciding how to place your vote then you may be to dumb to be able to place an X in either box

does KEIOC have any pro kirkby statments from ex players supporting the move?

Of course the club are going to promote the move using whatever tactics they deem appropriate Just as KEIOC have done

What a bloody cheek! Just because his view doesn’t conform to yours you want to ban him from making it known. That’s fascism mate and if Stubbs wants to make his point known as a player AND a supporter then what is wrong with that? As for taking advantage of the official website, the Club can’t seek the benefit of pulling silly stunts like flying Sopwith Camels around the Stadium with their point of view on a banner in it’s slipstream can they..., or tell people who live near the Loop that Evertonians are football hooligans? No, they are the kind of tricks somebody else gets up to aren’t they?

Finally, if you have a problem with the football Stubbs plays then post about it in it’s own right if it’s important enough for you and don’t merely use it to insult a man because his stance in the Stadium debate does not match yours.

Very disappointed that KEIOC couldn’t just leave the whole stadium debate for one day and chose to send that daft plane around the ground.

Cheap, very cheap.

Brian, weither Stubbs is talking as a fan or a player I actually think he’s speaking the truth there. And if a first team player has an opinion then i’m sure its allowed to go on the official site.
I fail to see the point in slagging him or his game off, just for airing his thoughts.

Chris....I know when to use to and when to use too. I might be dumb in your eyes but at least I am not illiterate. I’m NOT in KEIOC or any other proscribed organisation!

Brian, I respect your views and the eloquent way you have argued your case throughout this debate, but I think you are being both unjust and naive in your criticism of Stubbs in this case.

The club - the board - has transparently and openly stated that they "recommend" the Kirkby move to the supporters who have received the ballot papers.

I do not understand supporters such as yourself claiming that EFC is employing "propaganda" and underhand tactics to sway the vote. The guardians of the club WANT a "Yes" vote. As in any campaign in which an electorate has a vote, each side will promote its manifesto in an attempt to sway the undecided or the wavering.

Do you get the Labour website speaking favourably and finding known names and faces to endorse the Conservatives during a General Election? Of course not! Why should THIS campaign be any different...?

And... what does it matter at the end of the day? You, for example, are NOT taken in by it... you SEE it as propaganda, so... it has not achieved its desired affect, whether it was genuinely intended or not.

Alan Stubbs speaks up for Kirkby... Drunken Duncan speaks up for KEIOC. Who gives a fuck???!!! It will NOT be their opinions that will decisively influence the vote.

Brian I neither accused you of being dumb nor of being affiliated to KEIOC.

The point of my post that appears lost on you is that people should make up their own minds upon the merits, or are you suggesting that if the club released a statement from Stubbs telling you to put your hand in the fire you would seriously have to think about it?

Finally, when I want tips on literacy from you I will ask, you chose to ignore the construction of the post and concentrated on a minor flaw which says much more about you than it does about me.

Art.....the yes-voters really cannot help being devious even in their self-righteous replies. Tell me please why Mr.Stubbs (in favour of Kirkby) is called Alan Stubbs and Mr.Ferguson (not in favour of Kirkby) is called Drunken Duncan? Would you make such a distinction to their faces? If the answer to that question is yes, please reserve a ringside seat for me.

At least Duncan Ferguson, Everton season ticket holder, has a vote, Art. I’d love to be there if you ever tried you brand of patronising condescension on him!

Brian... you are seeing conspiracies where none exist. "Drunken Duncan" is as much a term of endearment as it can be construed as a derogatory name. Does such name labelling make my original post less valid? No, IMO, it doesn’t...

I compliment you... and you call me self-righteous. Whatever, Brian.

Read back your own post at the head of this thread. Who is truly being self-righteous?

This is just being silly - being cantankerous and augumentative for arguments’ sake. I really don’t understand it.

My views on the move I have already posted so wont bore you again but correct me if I am wrong but didn’t Stubbs make money out of Rooneys move.this I find disturbing OK a mate can advise but Stubbs had a financial involvement so I lost all trust in him then ,this is not to cast doubts over his loyalty on the pitch as have no doubt he gives 100% on the pitch

Roy I belive that alan stubbs does or did have shares in pro-active at the time however would suggest that the movement of one player would not have sufficent movement on the share price as the bulk of the money (ahem) came to us not to pro active

it is imeterial as rooney was off to whomever as engineered by stretford regardless of what stubbs may or may not have said

i would suggest it is no diferent in having shares in bt and making a phone call
