There's a tree with money growing on it

... grab some!

On the subject of seeking innovative sources of revenue, Everton?s business management has time and again passed up opportunities. There is still no concerted effort to bring in revenue from the uncounted number of Evertonians who live outside the UK. I live outside the UK for a good part of the year and I know how little the club reaches out to the Blue Diaspora.

There is little effort to give the club a profile and a brand in some of the biggest overseas markets where other clubs have ploughed furrows ahead of us. For a time ? admittedly a short time ? we had a Chinese international player in Li Tie. What efforts were made to move merchandise and create a brand in one of the world?s emerging football markets during that time?

Tim Howard has a huge profile in the US, enormously popular. Most Americans think he still plays for Manchester United. What efforts have been made to move merchandise associated with him in the US? We went on what was laughably called a pre-season tour in the US ? one struggling MLS team and a team of college kids. Why not three relatively competitive games that will help create a profile to build on in the US?

When you look at the balance sheet, what we draw in revenue from merchandising is pitifully small considering our history and our status. We need to focus better on new areas of revenue, then maybe we could afford a stadium within the boundary our home city.

Well, regarding the asian market i vaguely remember reading some story that the beloved Christopher Samuelson (Yes, that is the Fortress Sports Fund one) was working as some sort of consultant for us in exploring the possibilities of expanding our profile in Asia...

Given his problems of tying things up he might very well still be at it... ;)

Does anyone else remember hearing about this?

Yes, I remember too but the subject of Fortress and Chrissy Samuelson has been conveniently swept under the carpet by Blue Bill as if it was some distant daydream, like Kings Dock in that respect Jay. Regarding Pete’s original point the club don’t know how to maximise selling pies and beer to a captve audience, neither do they give a shit that JJB has made a right fuck up of shirt sales. Maximise revenue opportunites around the world, I think you’ll have to wait for the Kirkby Dome for that. the all enabling panacea. My arse

And we’re completely ignoring the Eskimo market. It’s a fucking disgrace! All it would take is an initial investment of £35M to build a megastore on Elephant Island and we’d corner the market in Everton branded sealskin kayaks. We’d make hundreds of pounds!

Or we could invest the money in a new stadium. That might be a good idea too.

More proof of the ineptitude of the board of Everton!
