Giveaway Everton odds....

Comments (9)

I'm not a gambler at all but having got very enthused by hearing Manny is in town for talks, I thought I'd see what bets were going on the Mighty Blues and I found a betting website (the one ran by the company who are televising 90 odd live Premier League games this season) offering a handicap bet of 14/1 that Everton plus 30 points will win the league so i've had a punt and put on £200, which should net me £3,000 come May!

That means all we need to do is get 50-60(max) points and its a banker unless one of Chelsea, Man Utd et al produce a hurculean effort, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Everton will do the business and in turn this will pay for my Euro 2008 trip/rip-off tickets!

Does anyone share my optimism or am I getting over optimistic about this 'easy money' bet?!

Easy money, Brian. Unless we get less points than Villa, or are more than 2 points behind Newcastle, or don’t get 3 points more than Blacburn, or don’t finish at leat 10 points ahead of Reading .... etc. etc.

Brian , its not that simple sorry to tell you , i made a similar bet last season with corals with a 37 point handicap , when i went to collect my winnings in may , ifound to my dissmay that i hadn’t won , because READING had started the season with a bigger handicap , so they won the handicap league (man utd were second as they started with a 9 point hndicap) and efc finished 3rd

With a handicap every team has an equal chance of winning - so you got odds of 14-1 on an 18-1 shot.

They saw you coming.

Its not a bad shout- but the handicap bet is about clubs performaing above expectations, most bookies reckon we will finish 8th (ish) which means we will bneed to rack up th or sixth, for example i would imagine sunderland get about 40 handicap points, so it only takes them to get to 50 points which is mid table and possible, still not a bad shout

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is too good to be true, never trust a bookie is my motto but good luck all the same.

Brian the correct odds for such a wager should be 19/1 as all teams in the PL are starting with the same chance according to the handicap. Most high street bookies are offering 15/1 which is still putting the margins in thier favour.Anyway good look with it but shop around next time you feel like a punt. Value is the key.

Glad it wasnt just me who fell for the handicap con, which it is.I like someone else has said previous was looking to collect 150 quid for a ten pound bet only to be told that reading had won the handicap league table despite my bet stating we would finish within 35 points of the champions,oh well I was quite glad I lost a tenner tonight betting on spurs though!
