Bleattie

Comments (17)

Frozen out my arse. Moyes gave Beattie chance after chance after chance and each time he blew it. The other strikers (kids included) took their chance and banged the goals in. I'm sorry lad, but that's a lame excuse. You failed to deliver, you're out. Don't get petty and let your shortcomings fall on others. You were shit when I watched you play against us for Southampton, you were shit at Everton and you'll eventually be shit in the Championship.

As someone posted many echelons ago, never trust a player with a dodgy haircut!

agreed, i was getting frustrated with the amount of chances beattie was getting despite terrible performances, he was being picked because of his transfer fee. not on merit. Eventually Moysie took the "bleedin obvious" option and gave the youngsters a chance !
Pity he’s started making these comments now he’s left as one thing I admired about him was he never showed a bad attitiude when dropped at the time, and in my opinion offered 100% when selected. Didnt need to come out bleating now he’s left, it just lowers your opinion of the player.

To be fair I dont think he was ever really shit against us Beattie..I remember the goal he got at Goodison a few years back when we came from behind to win 2-1 with a couple of late goals..And at Southampton in that game we drew 3-3..Beattie came on at half time and turned the game in their favour after we were 2-0 up..It just didnt work out for him at Everton..He finished top scorer in 2005/06 with 11 goals, thats not bad considering he missed the first month of the season..I agree he was dire last season, almost coinciding with being left out the England squad for the World Cup last summer..Dont forget though it wasnt Beattie who put the 6 million fee on his name and it wasnt him who paid it either. In this day and age there will be far worse 6 million pound buys anyway.

Even I could have scored some of the tap-ins he missed and I’m female and 67!! Even missed them in pre-season games against lower opposition. Well hope he does okay - no hard feelings but don’t like the fact he says he was frozen out. Moyes gave him so many chances that we kept saying he was keeping him because Moyes didn’t like to be proved wrong in buying him.

Ray, I agree with your views. It did not work out with Beattie last season. I recall some wonder goals from him at Southampton (do you remember, he scored 1 against Chealsea - a real beauty from the half-way line in the first minute of the game). Also, I remember being excited about the Johnson-Beattie combination at the beginning of last season. The 1st goal of the season (an unselfish assist from Beattie to Johnson) seemed to reinforce that feeling.

I don’t remember how it started to go worng for him, but the 4-5-1 system froze him out in favour of AJ, and his appearances became more and more restricted to late substitutions.

Although, he did miss some sitters, he never played badly and not many chances came his way.

Anyway, like you say, it was just not working out for him anymore in Everton. When your Manager does not have any more confidence in you as a footballer, that really is the final nail.

I wish him well for the future.

35 appearances last year for Beats despite not one goal from open play and he reckons he was frozen out! If this quote is correct, what a brain doner!

The article states that Beattie played 35 times last season - How does that constitue the manager not fancying him?
What that says is that he didn’t do it when he played - I would think that is more football than either Vaughan or Anichebe played last year.
I’m sure AvdM would love to be frozen out in the same way this season and be given 35 chances.

A little research into his career will tell you in a 4 year spell with the Saints he score 60+ goals. All other seasons combined? Less than 30.
Like the man, but glad he’s gone.

Bit harsh on him I think, granted he didn’t deliver last season. But the 05/06 season he did a job for us, and worked like a trojan horse to win balls and lay passes on, not to mention finishing top scorer.

Don’t get me wrong I believe the number 9 shirt will be better on someone else, but I wish him all the best at Shef Utd.

Well at last JB has found his level now.He is long past his sell by date were the premier league is concerned and the Coca Cola leagues will suit him better.Maybe on more rung down and he will start to shine

Like most people, I was pleased when we signed him but delighted to get £4m for him at the end.

Perhaps he’s let himself down a bit claiming to have been "frozen out" ( I’ve not read the article, and you have to take these things with a pinch of salt )when he was clearly our 4th/5th best option most of last season, but we all make excuses for ourselves, footballers are no different, just a lot richer...

I wish him all the best - hope he does well for Sheff Utd. Here’s to a quality signing worthy of our iconic number 9 shirt soon!

I was at the game at home against Southampton Ray refers to. Aside from the goal he score, he was pretty shit the whole game.

Fair play to the board and Moyes for getting £4m for him - they could have easily panicked and got shot for the reported £2.5m.
Again we are pruning the squad and improving the overall quality.
We are defo moving in the right direction.

I was at that Southampton game at St Mary’s when we drew 3-3.. I do recall Bettie coming on at HT and making an impact...I also recall that at HT we were 2-0 up that should have been 3-0 had Big Dunc not balloned over the bar when clean through, one of Fergies classic away day sitters (He missed alot of them over his time). Anyway I wish Beattie luck at Sheff U and applaud him for dropping a division when he could have sat on the bench collecting his wages..I think he dispelled alot of the ’big time Charlie’ talk when he first arrived anyway.

Every week I hoped that Beattie would come good and every week he let us down. I hope that he does well with Sheffield United (unless it’s against Everton in the Cup), but to say that he was frozen out at Everton is unfair. Moyes gave him chance after chance.

The guy worried me from day one with that stupid gold chain hanging outside his top when he was paraded to the fans. Then he goes and dies his hair bleach blonde and then thinks it sensible to go out on the piss in Birmingham after the Villa game and not expect trouble. Cap that off with the head butt in the Chelsea game and your left wondering whether the guy is one butty short of a picnic. In fact, that was probably the problem - that the guy was constantly on a bloody picnic. I was excited when he signed and relieved when he was gone. I wish him all the best as I genuinely believe he tried when he got his chances last season but unfortunately the huffing and puffing and lack of quality just wasn’t good enough
