Neville to Newcastle?

Comments (15)

Has anyone seen that 'Big Sam' is apparently going to offer £4 million for captain fantastic? I know he gets a bit of stick on this site due to him being a defender playing in midfield (when he looks scared of the ball half the time) but I would be sorry to see him go! I hope Moyes laughs this one off!

Do you think Moyes will agree to Newcastle's £4 million bid for Neville? I would and then paying for Vogel makes good business sense, never mind the obvious improvement in quality.

I would bite their hands off for that sort of money, the lad can,t pass or tackle, what exactly does he do ?

£4M for Neville would be good business for EFC.

Firstly it ain’t gonna happen. Secondly it shouldn’t. Neville is our captain, he’s a quality right back and a good defensive midfielder when he’s not expected to be creative. He only looks particularly bad when he’s played in a role he’s unsuited to as he is at the moment. When he’s the anchorman of the midfield he’s as good as Carsley (and those who don’t rate Carsley have clearly been living in a box during Moyes’ reign).

I would be amazed if moyes didn’t accept a £4M bid for Neville.from what i saw of him at SU Jagielka is a similar but better utility player.Coincidently that sort of money in the bank would mean that pre Fernandes, the summer net spend would be back to nil!

Not to bash the lad, but I’d love to see the back of Neville. He’s a roadblock to the much needed release of (already present) creativity.......but fits right in with DMs ’tactics’ of play. 4 million would be more than enough.

If we want creativity in the defensive ranks, why don’t we buy Titus Bramble?

That birdman from Switzerland hasn’t played a minute in the Prem and the fact that he hasn’t played much at Betis either goes to show that he’s either crap or injury-prone. Or most likely both.

Onward to the suggestion that we should use the alleged money from Neville’s transfer to secure Fernandes’ signature, I don’t think Moyes is that stupid. Selling your holding midfielders for fancy footwork is the fastest road to decline. See Real Madrid, post-Makelele.

What madness it would be to sell our captain, somebody who can play either full back, center back, center mid, when we have one of the smallest squads in the league. I think Neville has been a sound addition and would hate to see the lad go.

Good business sense but bad footballing decision if he went. Remember Carsley is in his last year & I expect won’t be here next year, & Jagielka is untested at this level as a defensive midfielder as is Anderson de Silva. Yes Neville is a crap footballer, but he has a winning mentality & I think he makes a good captain... You can’t have fancy attractive football throughout nowadays unless a) you sacrifice it for points on the board(ala arsenal) or b) you have someone shovelling the shit infront of the back four to allow for the creativity in front of them. Those getting excited about a midfield four of Arteta, Fernandes, Cahill & Pienaar should take there heads out of the sand. it wouldn’t work, not enough balance. Sorry to go off topic!

Chris, if anything I think you hit the topic right on the noggin rather than going off it ! The likes of Neville and Carsley do the shitty jobs and yes, whilst some drool over a creative midfield, our back four would get hammered without the holding player in front of them breaking up plays and giving the ball to the creative players.

That said Neville is a full back and not a midfielder, but also a player our thread bare squad cannot do without...

Thank you Phillip..............just close the door on your way out.

The best thing about accepting Big Sam’s very , very generous offer is that we will take another huge salary off the books as well as making a profit on the sale.

Anybody think we can’t do better with that money.

Oh yeah and we might have a better chance of beating the Mancs now..................eh super striker ?

Cheers Nev !

Whats up with people? Phil Neville’s been a great signing for us and does a great job - trouble is, people expect him to do things he’s not employed to do.

Wakey wakey.

Take the 4 mill and give the armband to Jagielka

As regards Neville what is blatantly obvious is that you cant play him and Carsley together, there is no creativity. If someone gets hold of Arteta the supply dries up ,therefore this means yhat Johnson and whoever chase high long balls.Neville can only play full back.at the moment we work our **** off to win the ball and cant retain it.So we require another player for the middle of the park.

I know you guys give him plenty of stick but he's been outstanding tonight. I've never been a great fan of his playing in the middle of the park but he's passing, crossing and overall reading of the game has been brilliant tonight and no rash tackles either. I for one think it would be a poor decision to sell him conisdering his versatility and ability.
