What a fantastic performance from our boys tonight. Yes, at times we sat back but who wouldn't at 3-1 up at Spurs. There was only one team going to score in the last 30 mins. Victor worked tirelessly and Moyes recognised the big man was knackered and replaced him at the right time so maybe he is learning when to make good substitutions. Leon was majestic all night and Mikel was awesome in the first half. Anyone doubting his defensive attributes should see how he doubled up for Lescott in the second half, he rarely crossed the halfway line in the period when Spurs dominated in the second half.

As nervous as I am watching us holding a lead, we played with more composure and more confidence which if we can maintain and build upon, we are going to improve again this season. Well done everyone, 2 new signings and this will be the best August ever! Come on you blues!

Same side? Same result? Who's going to moan now?! Does Moyes have a plan? COYB

Like many other Toffee fans, I'm thrilled by the start we have had to the season....Yes... we are TOP OF THE LEAGUE... even if it is for a few hours!

The opener was a bit drab (but we got the result!)but the away game at Spurs was a treat... how we withstood all their pressure and then went up and scored with set pieces and one from open play... Dont get me wrong..im sure this season will have lots of ups and downs like any other Everton season.I am also sure that we need another striker(Not Yakubu for 12-13 million!)...and Fernandes(whatever it costs!) and maybe that Sheff Wed winger too...

Great job so far by the lads and of course Moyes....come on you Blues!!!

Great result considering that we currently have 3 key players out, looked to have more in the tank and more quality signings to come.

Great performance. Bar a 10 minute spell at the start of the second half we very rarely gave the ball away for no reason and I counted very few defensive errors. People talk about us being hard to break down and it usually pisses me off because it makes us sound boring. I have to say though, whoever coaches spatial awareness at Everton is very, very good. I rate knowing when to close down and make challenges and knowing when to back off as a very important quality in a player and pretty much our whole team is excellent at it. People like Ossie and Mikel never used to be good at this, so someone is definitely doing something and deserves some credit for it.

great team spirit and a great great result !!

a 6 point head start over spurs is awesome.

roll on reading and 3 wins out of 3.

we only had 4 away wins last season , lets hope we can vastly improove on that this time round.

if i had 1 critisicm of the game it would be moyes reluctance to put a sub on. anichebe and neville looked out of energy with 25 minutes to go.

Very proud but lets just keep our feet on the ground as Reading is a winnable game as are lots of others in the first 2 months. We also have extra time to prepare for it too. A little bit curious why Vic stayed on for as long as he did when he obviously looked spent. He’s not the finished article yet but definitely shows a lot of promise - positioning and timing are things that he can improve upon and will come with further experience, no doubt but that’s to take nothing away from his efforts in these first two games. Bring in Fernandes and a quality, experienced striker up front to assist Johnson and we really will be going places. Encouraging to see that the overall fitness levels looked excellent tonight. Top of the table, splendid

Lets hope even the most critical of fans (Tony Marsh) are big enough to hold their hands up and give credit to Moyes and the team.

Fantastic result tonight. Add Fernandes and a top quality striker to that team and things will start getting serious.

Spurs, West Ham, Newcastle and Man City have spent big but as Moyes rightly says we have a great team and I fancy us to beat most this season.

FANFUCKINGTASTIC.What a display from the Blues.what p[leased me more than anything was the ball being played to feet when ever we had possesion.Best footballing from an Everton side since we beat Villa away 2004.You see it can be done.Like I said in my last postWe are more effective when we play the game the correct way.Lets hope this is the way of things to come.

Tony, welcome to David Moyes Everton, hard working, organised, team spirit, character and cameos of creativity.

This is what has earned Everton two top 6 finishes in recent years. Add a couple of big money signings before the deadline and all of a sudden you start wondering how far we can go this season.

Things aren’t as bad as you thought.

Good point though! :)

Got up a 4.30am in Sydney to see the game. I am so happy I could spend a dirty weekend in Llandudno with Margaret Thatcher.......nah! on reflection I’ll take a rain check on that.

Anyone else caught the bit at the end when the Sky Sports reporter asked DM if he thinks Everton were finally good enough to break into the "big four" ?

Absolutely loved the disdain in his stare when he deadpanned "Didn’t we do that 3 years ago?"

Priceless !

Such an excellent performance - Lescott is a fucking ROCK! And Leon Osman was class too. It’d be wrong just to single out those two, from Howard to Yobo, Carsley to etc... they were all great tonight. Spurs top four? My arse.

Hope we can keep this kind of league performance up when we’re playing UEFA games too.

Ya, would like to echo everybody’s sentiments here. Winning, especially away, with a 3 - 1 win is simply outstanding! It really made my day after having to watch the game from the tube at 3am in the morning here. COYB!

I know i’ve already posted my view once after the game...but i just cant help making another post to thank the lads and Moyes for the high they have put me on.
I have had a really busy past couple of months but the anticipation of the new season overcame a lot of that.
Loved the interview with Moyes on Sky...typical post match interview from the great man...points to note being
1.Not singling out any 1 player for praise unlike many managers
2.Keeping his feet on the ground as we are only 2 games into the season
3.Telling the Sky reporter that we HAD already broken into the top 4 when asked about the prospect of doing so this year
My own view on the the way the lads played
1.Howard...fantastic...cant express how much he eases my nerves(the way Martyn used to)with his quick reflexes and generally calm nature.
2.Lescott...what can i say...strong..sure..passionate..at both ends of the field...
3.Yobo...had a good game..was a bit worried when he was limping early on..hope it isnt anything serious
4.Stubbs...was found wanting when Bent started off but then settled in well and the goal was great too
5.Hibbo...good game with timely tackles and good fitness levels
6.Carsley...i can never express the gratitude that i have for him and the way he quietly breaks down opposition plays..while attempting a crack on goal himself occasionally
7.Neville...hope he isnt sold to the Magpies...he may not be all that impressive but gets the work done...real asset to have in the squad
8.Arteta..wonder whether his name means magician in Spanish...he is true class but needs another creative midfielder to ease the pressure...hope he never gets injured!
9.Ossie..much maligned over the last season but apprently with a fresh vigour and passion to his game...was all over ...great
10.Anichebe...good skills holding up the ball and winning headers..also i like his tough attitude....was getting knackered by around the hour mark...shoulda come off eralier...
11.Johnson..ran his socks off as usual but should have scored...to just get into the habit...
12.Jags...looks quick..eager..and committed...just what we need...
Also Moyes and his staff must be praised for the fitness and tactics against a far more potent team

As a young(ish) Evertonian, I really can’t remember another time when I felt so positive about our team and where we’re going... COYB!!
