Great result, and while Spurs played much nicer football than us, there were lovely passages of passing football by us last night which give me great hope. I thought Howard was great in goal, Hibbert played better than he did all last season, Stubbs and Lescott were superb. Yobo looked a little like the Yobo of two seasons ago in the first half but settled and was back to his usual best later on.
I know Arteta and Osman stole the show, but I really feel that Carsley had a blinder of a game last night. Neville was decent too, but I lost count of the times Carsley tackled back and broke up the play, proper midfield destroyer. Anichebe did well but looked shagged tired at the end, and AJ never stopped running ? just a shame he couldn't have converted one or two of his chances in the second half, but I'm sure he'll open his account soon.
Yes, we soaked up pressure from Spurs and sat back a bit to hit them on the break, but there was a lot less hoof-ball than usual and if we keep playing like last night then we're hopefully in for a really good season. Now, where's that paper with the league table.....

Was it just me or did Sky not give us the credit we deserved last night.
Every bit of brilliance we put on was turned into what Spurs are doin wrong and are goalswere shown as Spurs defensive mistakes. You could even hear the disappointment in Richard Keys voice at half time. As for Andy Gray....did he ever play for us???????????

Absofuckinlutley lovin it: 2 from 2; what's not not to like? After all the transfer talk (lack of) there is only one word to describe Osman's performance...FERNANDES ?

Geez Guys, I’ve heard lots on this site about making bids for players to increase the feel good factor in time for the vote?
does anyone think that the only reason we won last night was to increase the feel good factor and as soonas we vote Yes to Kirkby we’ll start playing shite and playin van Der Meyde and Paul Valente again??

Tony Marsh is in his bunker waiting for all these good results to blow over, he’s probably crying in front of a picture of Terry Darracott.

Sky never give Everton any credit. The never have and probably never will. And we always have the worst commentators on Football First too. Garry Birtles? Warren Barton? They are so anti-Everton its untrue. Give the boys the credit they deserve. OK, Spurs played well up until the final third, but that emphasises that Everton played superbly in defence. Come on Sky, give credit when its due!!!

I see all the negative ninnies are having a day off today. It just gets better and better!!! What a fantastic result! Thought Osman was class. Makes you wonder how any of the new boys are going to get a game.

Eric, Barry....Tony has already said in other posts that Everton were a joy to watch and he’s made up about the result, so lay off eh?
We were fantastic last night, and it’s a quality result, lets just be happy.

They were fuckin brilliant. What impressed me the most was the ball retension. I swear even Phil Neville was finding a blue shirt!
It was a perfect example of how to win an away match.
I’m so proud to be an evertonian today.
Sky went for the Tottenham defeat angle because this is the media story from last nights result. We might be top of the league but it doesn’t count for much whereas after two defeats in two Spurs are in crisis after all the summer top 4 hype. Also factor in the two studio guests were redshite McAllister and the Spurs Captain

You’re right about Richard Keys Ian - the hairy one, can’t abide the thought of the "big 4" being invaded by "upstarts" like EFC - he’s so biased it’s untrue - he’s a bitter Coventry fan......
But hey, who gives a fuck - we’re top of the league..

Sorry Tony I read this post before finding your praise of the team.
Ross, I’m not anti-Tony, I just like to read his posts as an antidote to the likes of Dutch and Doddy. Who I’m not anti either by the way, just all for the diverse views of a diverse bunch of Toffees.

No worries, I wasn’t suggesting that, just wanted you to realise he’d actually praised the team!
Sky are a joke! Eddie Murphy and Red Shite McAllister in the studio, it’s great being the underdog

got up at 6.45am new zealand time to watch the game live on sky (as always). we get the same pictures and commentary but no pundits before, at half time or after the match. instead we get a voiceover and lots of stats. the voiceover guy was actually very complimentary of our performance so i’m glad i don’t have to put up with uk sky anymore.

I would just like to big up the fans at the game last night. We were absolutely superb. The atmosphere made up for me and my little lad getting soaking, fucking wet walking up to the ground.Great performance from the lads, especially Osman, who was out-standing in the second half. Also, this is going to sound stupid, but, could anyone let me know the words to the arteta chant. My little lad keeps asking me so he can sing along. He actually said I was a disgrace for not knowing it.This from an 8yr old!!!

superb performance everton
counter attacking football at its best in the first half and early second half and then soaked up the pressure with ease to see out the game
credit to moyes and the players

Follow Follow Follow
Everton are the team to follow,
And there’s nobody better than Mikel Arteta,
He’s the best little spaniard we know!!
Love it!!!
By the way Robin agree with most of your points other than Hibbert - He is clearly the weak link, got sucked into the middle so often last nite as he did against Wigan. I understand Moyes’s loyalty build up good team spirit but i really feel we would be a better side with Neville at right back and either Jags or pienaar in midfield - depending on the opponents

All the posters who have mentioned the lack of respect for the Blues from SKY and BBC are spot on. It seems that outside of the so called ’Big 4’, Newcastle (why for fuck’s sake?) and Spurs, everybody else is irrelevant and there for the taking in their view. Spurs blew it last night according to SKY, we didn’t win it, and weren’t they all just dying for Spurs to draw level? As for the guests, which one had the Everton connection? We had the Spurs captain and an ex redshite! As for Andy Gray, well, I emailed him directly at SKY not too long ago reminding him of how many medals he won in a Blue shirt and asking why he never says a word in our favour - for a man who usually has so much to say, he didn’t reply! The media are a total disgrace in their treatment of this great club.

I think your being a bit harsh on Yobo. I thought his was brillaint. He had to swap with Stubbs because Bent was to quick.
I thought everyone put in good performances all round. Carsley and Neville where suprisingly brilliant. They tackled hard and also looked decent on the ball. That wasnt even one of Mikel’s good days and he was quality but for me the man of the match was little Leon. His workrate plus quality was brilliant. I have had a go in the past but we all know he has talent. Up to now in his everton career he has had two good seasons and one bad and hopfully this year he will get back to his best.

For years on this site I have said that if we have the players >who are skillfull enough then why dont we use them in the correct way.Last nights performance was brilliant the best in a long time.>In my last article I stated that if we get the ball down and play we are far more effective side so why dont we do it in every game?I suppose its having a pop at the manager but so what.Last nights performance and style of victory only proves me right. We can play when we want to and it does work when we play properly.
If we continue in the same way as last night at Spurs I will be a very happy supporter.Hoofball a thing of the past?Lets hope so.

lets not get carried away now Tony. I saw a LOT of hoofball last night, however, I feel that last night was a true display of moyes’s tactical nous. He has learned his lessons and to me so far this season, he has made all the right changes at the right times. Long may it continue.
Jaggers didn’t give the ball away once when he came on, looks a good signing, as well as Pienaar on Saturday, in Moyes we trust!!!

what a result, top of the league and moving out of this backstabbing council. After the votes are counted we can give a huge V to the self promoted councillors who have been beating us like an unwanted dog for years. Well Wyness got himself a couple of bigger dogs and took them to the tablea nd now we wait as another multi million pound business leaves liverpool, but we are top of the league and it feels so good. (albeit it briefly)

Just like to echo that Carsley was absolutely immense. He also played a large part in Stubbsy’s goal by barging into the wall from the side! When he plays like that, its like having Pieman (Joe Parkinson) back in the middle.

Watched the game live last night, although well chuffed with the result, I would say spurs had more of the ball and we defended like demons as we can do.
Although Nev & Cars played great, Im not convinced by having them two together in the middle of the park. At times I though AJ & VA were a bit isolated when they had the ball, without enough back up from the central midfield areas. Of course Nev & Cars are more defensively minded. Better for me would be Cars and say Cahill when fit or Cars and Arteta in middle with Fernades if he comes on the wing.
I really wish Moyes would put Nev at right back, coz Hibbo severly lacks any over lapping ability and quality crossing. As much as I like Hibbo, hes a squad player not a first 11 player.
I see where Moyes is coming from with trying to get Yakubu. We do need a big strong experienced lad upfront. Dont get me wrong, I cant fault Victors efforts so far but he still has another season or so to learn his trade.
But overall well chuffed, and with two more additions to the squad, things are starting to look rosy!

Seamus, couldnt agree more mate - I was just saying that Hibbert had one of his better games for us, but I said last season that Neville is a better right back than him. Personally I’d have Neville there straight away, with Hibbert as back up, and have Jagielka pushing Carsley for the defensive midfield position, especially if Fernandes signs. What a first week to the season that would be: 6 points out of 6, 5 goals scored, and a big signing (or two) = blue bliss!

Yeah we really need to get Fernandez in though Robin. We cant constantly rely on Arteta for our creativity (butwhile im on the subject - how comfortably is he on the ball!!!). Pieanaar in the 20 mins i saw of him last weekend looks like he could be another potential Arteta - he wanted the ball so much and had a couple of lovely 1-2’s with Arteta in the few mins he was on and fed Johnson for the second goal with a lovely slide pass.
With him,Arteta,Fernandes,Cahill and Carsley i cant see where Jags would even play!! And thats taking Neville out of midfield!
Oh the possibilities!!
Now if we can just get this Fernandes deal sealed...

We gave Spurs a footballing lesson. The art of defending and counter attacking football. I thought Spurs had 50mill worth of strikers. Did they play last night??!!
Robin Byrne
Posted 15/08/2007 at 15:37:57
In that midfield Seamus, I think Jags could be groomed as Cars successor, or alternatively (and I suspect this is what Moyes is planning) Neville will be where Carsley is, Jagielka will be right back, and Carsley and Hibbert will provide squad cover.
