Moyes comes of age

Not the biggest of Moyes fans, but I think the team really want to play for the man now.
Ordinarily we would have been blown away by Spurs when they over ran us in the first half but it did not happen. Outstanding performances from every man and for those knocking Leon last season you should be ashamed of yourselves. No doubt if his goals dry up you will be back at it. Well done, Moyes boys

We scored 3 goals in the first half, hardly being over-run is it Steve! Looks like Manny’s on the way now too and Yobo has started voicing his opinion on Yakubu which bodes well.

I think thats a bit harsh Steve - Osman did deserve some criticism last year as a lot of his performances were not up to scratch. Even against Wigan last week Lescott was reduced at times to hoofball as Leon just wasn’t showing for him on the left flank. Credit where credit is due he was outstanding last night, but if he is gonna get the plaudits for his good performances he must also accept criticism for poor performances.
If he played every week like he did last night he wouldn’t have been getting stick in the first place.

Fair comment lads but three goals or No, Spurs were all over us first half.We got the rub of the green with the free kick and they got none at all.

That can be expected though. They were playing at home for the first time this season after losing away to Sunderland on Sat. They had to go all out. I think we had a good gameplan and worked it well.
For all their possesion we actually had more shots than them and more on target.
Think back to last season and how many teams we over-ran at goodison and didnt win - Man City and Wigan spring to mind.

Steve Lynch- ’Spurs all over us 1st half’. Your joking, yes?. Watch the game again and Spurs weren’t ’all over us’.
It was a classic away performance by a v v good everton ’team’.

In fairness we were under the cosch for a long period up until they equalised in the first half.

I’ve been one of Osman’s biggest critics as I dont think he’s a good enough player to be a regular fixture for a top 6 premiership side, which I think all of us would like to class Everton as. However he has played extremely well so far this season which is great for him and for the fans. What we need to remember though Steve is that good players are able to keep that level of performance up for 30 odd games a season - ala Arteta and Lescott last season. Lets just see how his performance levels are in October and November - I for one hope he’s still the ’man’ but i’m not sure he has the physical or mental strength to keep it up.

It was a good sign to see us pick it up another level after we conceded. We were in total control after scoring the second and Stubbsy’s pole-driver put it beyond doubt. But for a few scares, the second half was a stroll in the park and I actually think this will serve us well, fitness wise, for the game against Reading. In regards to the Carsley/Neville debate, I think Manny will replace one of the two. As good as our first two results have been, we still give the ball away too cheaply. Manny will provide the calming influence we need in the middle of the park, instead of the hoofball that Cars/Nev serve up. Don’t get me wrong, their work ethic and graft is top class but they are not ’ball’ players. Retaining possession, especially in Europe, will be key if we are to progress deep into the tournament.

Cars is not in there to be a ball player but time after time last night he broke up spurs attacks. He is invaluable to the team and in that position he is far more effective than Neville. Dont get me wrong Neville actually played as well as ive seen for a long time - he actually even passed the ball to Everton players!! But Cars is there to win primary possesion and play a simple ball to someone who will create something. Put Fernades in beside him there in the middle with Arteta on the right and Osman/Pienaar on the left and that is a strong midfield. That can only leave Neville at right back and as Robin says Jags being groomed to replace Cars.
What are we going to do with Cahill when he returns!!!
Exciting times Gents!!

If we hadn’t been under the cosh for periods of that game last night you’d have to ask even more serious questions of Spurs. It’s bound to happen. The good teams soak it up then break back in those situations. Ok, so we conceded one, but last night we were more resolute against caving in and managed to actually put away enough chances. A cutting edge! How can anyone not be a Moyes fan? Regardless of what happens between now and the end of the season this is the best squad i’ve seen at EFC for nearly 20 years. The team spirit is great. Top class players are signing new deals. And Yobo, well, you’d have had to drag him off the pitch last night. That team has heart, courage, steely determination and now more than ever has enough quality to be punishing teams. I think there’s something special brewing.
