Manny Money

Fernandes at £6M for 50% of the transfer rights? Simple economics would suggest that the other party won't sell him for much less than that, so we're looking at a fee of £12M? Now I was under the impression that we had an option on him for 12 million Euros? That's approx. £8M. Are we throwing money away just beacuse we let the deadline of that option pass, or was the option just for the 50% Benfica owned and did we manage to negotiate £2M off? Or am I completely wrong anyway? Can someone clarify this?

The £6 mil we paid to Benfica was to meet his buy out clause in his contract! As for the other lot,no fee is certain but I cant imagine them wanting less than £6 mil for their half if thats what Benfica got.

Erik - In these circumstances the third party owners usually do not demand the same fee. They take into account the wages and development etc by Benfica and I would expexct the fee to be around £9m-£10 in the end.

It is slightly dodgy though only having 50% ownership of a player because certain bids trigger certain actions.......remeber our £11m ’bid’ for lucho. Well that was the exact amount needed to trigger a decision from Fc Porto, they either had to accept it or buy the player outright...which they eventully did. Apparantly that ’super agent’ fella had a vested interest in that deal and then all of a sudden has been brought in by BK to sort out the manny and possibly Yak transfer. This leads me to believe that we never actually wanted Lucho....he was a means to an end regarding manny. I scratch your back you scratch my back etc

Thats a very interesting idea Andy. It would be good to think that we’d been so shrewd in our pursuit of a player that lets face it 99% if not 100% of Evertonians want. I must admit when my brother and I heard of the Lucho bid we both looked at each other and said "what about Manny?"

First of all: Thanks for editing my post, whoever did it. It’s really hard to find a "£" on a continental keyboard (copy-pasting it now). And the bit about the loop-stadium wasn’t up to date anymore since the pictures where revealed. This kind of editing keeps the mailbag a pleasure to read!

And thanks for the update, Andy. I never combined Lucho with Manny, but that just shows how naive I can be at times...

Hope Manny signs in pretty soon! Is there a deadline for him to be eligible to play in Uefa?
