Impending Record Transfer
Comments (21)
I'm not sure if this has been covered previously, but amidst the excitement of the great start to the season and the massive stadium debate, it's been largely forgotten that if and when the transfer of Manny goes through, he will smash the Everton transfer record of £8.6M for AJ. This assumes we are paying the third party somewhere between £4-6M for their share.
I remember a couple of years ago we smashed the record to bring Beattie in (£6M) so surely breaking the record in three successive years is a sign that Everton are genuinely willing to compete with the big spenders? The only difference is that we buy smarter than your average billionaire's plaything. Come on you Blues!

Looks like he's virtually ours! Anyone else as incredibly happy and relieved as I am right now?

Well, its even on the official site! Looks like we have Manny in the bag. Let's just hope he doesn't get a metatarsal injury walking into the medical room. Brilliant news.

According to the BBC, Manuel Fernandes will have the first part of his medical today and David Moyes expects him to become an Everton Player within the next 24 hours. Also, according to Sky Sports News Yakubu has been left out of the Middlesbrough squad for this weekend amidst rumours that he is on his way to Everton to discuss a move. I know this isn't new info but with rumours of these two coming to our club flying about for the last week or two I think it is great that it seems to finally be coming to fruition. They will both be of huge benefit to our squad.
On the other hand I had a look at the Spain squad for their up coming friendly v Greece and again there was no Arteta. Having said that their midfield is impressive:
Midfielders - Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona), Xavi (Barcelona), Xabi Alonso (Liverpool), Miguel Angel Angulo (Valencia), David Silva (Valencia), David Albelda (Valencia), Joaquin (Valencia)
Although if Alonso is good enough for Spain then what is the problem with Arteta? Is it because we are unfashionable Everton? I feel sorry for Mikey. He surely deserves a chance! Although at least it keeps him fresh for our games. Spain?s loss is our gain.

Great news about manny, saw him last season and he really did look quality, so well dont to the club again for fooling us all closed season. as for yakubu, still unsure 11mm for someone who i admit will score goals but is he the team player we need? and finally please excuse my madness but would that tall lanky goal england goal scorer who plays over the park not be a better buy to play up front with aj????

I just heard on Radio Five Live that Yakubu is out of the Boro squad for the weekend match. I wonder if this is significant or injury concern? I'm in two minds - great (and rare) ambition from EFC is we're going to go for him. On the other hand he's going to be expensive and the African Nations Cup causes concern as we'll lose him and Yobo. Come on Blue Boys - we're looking like a rock solid team.

Who is it modelling the new third kit on the front page of the Everton website? Not the home page, just www.evertonfc.com
Should I be excited?

Fantastic news this. Manny will be able to step right into the squad after the Reading game, adds class and skill to the center of midfield, just great to have this guy back. And we all have thought Arteta has been doing great right now, wait until he has Manny in the midfield to take some of the burden off of Arteta. Defenses will not be able to just surround Arteta, they will have to account for Manny as well, something they don’t currently have to do with Carsley and Neville. That will allow Arteta more space and time on the ball, and a little more space for the forwards when they get the ball. And now Yakubu has been left out of the Boro squad this weekend, so there’s a good chance he will be joining us. Honestly, with this squad, who couldn’t we beat? Everton is back, it’s been a long wait but Everton is definitely back amongst the top teams in the league. We don’t need a squad of 30-40 players to sit in the reserves like Chelsea and United.

It’s Steven Pienaar

Its been obvious to me since the long term contracts of Arteta and Cahill were tied up, that we would sign Fernandes. How else would we of captured these two so early in the season without the lure of some extrta quality coming in. I’d even go as far as to say the Yakubu deal is pretty much signed and sealed too. Theres alot that goes on behind the scenes with these things.

I reckon Yakubu will be a blue by the end of next week. Especially since boro have now signed Mido.

The local rag in boro certainly seem convinced that the Yak is blues bound: -

Southgates comments reveal that we is on his way.
The only slight reservation i have is his motivation. But if anyone can get that out of him its David Moyes.
The Yaks goal record is mighty impressive, 62 in 152 games at Pompey and Boro. Its only going to get better playing ahead of Arteta and Fernandes, and alongside AJ.

We know what we have in Manny, there’s no worry there. In Yakubu we will get a guy who consistently scores goals, exactly what we need to compliment AJ and our now very potent midfield. We really shouldn’t worry about losing him for the African Cup with Yobo. Yes, we would miss them, but we have Stubbs and Jagielka to cover for Stubbs, and Vaughan should be back for us by about that time to partner AJ with McFadden as cover as well. And it looks like there is a chance that Victor will be deciding to play for England, so he could still be with us. But if not, we would have 2 of Nigerias strikers on our team, not too bad.

Fernandes news is absolutely fantastic! I can’t remember being happier about a new signing. This boy has the world at his feet - and he’s ours!
And don’t forget Steven Pienaar - I think Moyes will "do a Mikel" on him and enable him to fulfill his potential.
Arteta, Fernandes, Pienaar! Everton haven’t seen a midfield like this since... Well, I won’t start an argument here! Let’s just say this could be rather special.

Manny coming to Goodison Park. Jesus Christ I never let myself even dream to imagine we would have signed the midfield talent that gave me rushes at times last Season. I played a utube clip to my Spurs supporting brother when we first got him on loan. My Bro said 'Jesus, we'll have him', I said there's no way we'll keep him, he'll be too much money. Well Money Schmunney, either Robert Earl has found some loose change in his tights or the wedge was always there! Who knows, no doubt we'll find out in the next transfer window. The Yak as well? We could be talking top 3 calibre - Manny Fernandes? We signed the bugger!!
