Where did the money come from?

Where did Buster suddenly get £19 million from?
A few weeks ago while we were haggling over buying Jags and Baines, it appeared that we didn't have a pot to piss in.
So what's happened?

Robert Earl joined the Everton Board of Directors. No-one authorative has said that he has provided any additional money... although there was a suggestion that his presence on the Board has given the banks a greater comfort level about increasing Everton's debt.

It must be Robert Earl joining the board. The guy is extremely wealthy, he must be throwing some money in to have a squad worthy of brining some bigger Hollywood start than Stallone. Can we have Pamela this time, in a nice tight Everton top Mr. Earl??!!!

I think its just that Moyes / BK valued the players and wouldnt bid over that amount. In a summer where many clubs have paid over the odds for average players, i think its a refreshing change to see a club like everton take a firm stance. We have seen in the first few games,Moyes didnt have to panic buy to have a good team, although admittidly we need to stregthen our squad. We are obviously buying quality with Fernandes, and the Yak seems to be a great partner for AJ. Instead of trying to think of conspiracy theories, lets just trust our Gaffer, i think he’s earned that!

you all want 2 know where this money comming from i know we have new investors in the club and a rumour these going to be a takeover soon could it be philip green terry leachy or a indian takeover?

I dont think anyone mentioned any conspiracy theories merely posed a fair question - how come we have money now? Because we clearly did not have it at the start of the summer otherwise would we not have bought Manny then instead of risking him settling back into Portugese life or joining someone else?
Fair question in my eyes.
In saying that it wont overly bother me if that is an answer that the club does not wish to answer. It does appear however that this money appeared within a week of Earl joining the board hense the speculation that it was as a result of him becoming more involved - be that a through a personal investment from Earl or as Michael says, increased confidence from the banks.

Note to Tone: Optimism abounds! So much doom and gloom on this site all too often, esp. from Tony Marsh! Tony, I recall you were sure that Manny was off to Man Citeh a week or two back...wrong again. At least you’re consistent. We love Everton, we do, We love you Everton, we do, We love you Everton we do, ooohhhh EVERTON WE LOVE YOU! COYB!

A really good mate of mine, who would never lie to me cos he’s my bezzy, told me that Mittal is in the Marriott hotel and will be taking over Everton at the weekend. My mate says it’s the honest to God truth and I believe him cos he wouldn’t make a dick of himself, honest.
Sound familiar, chaps?
Can’t remember which knob it was who said something similar re Alan Smith, but thought I would take the piss because it’s nice being a Blue looking down on the rest!

I think if any takeover is in the pipeline, it will probably be confirmed after a ’Yes’ vote for Kirkby.
Money breeds money or didn’t you know?

That Mittal was on Sky sports news, he’s taking over Birmingham apparently.

I heard that Phillip Green provided EFC with a £25m line of credit.
This may ultimately be converted in to a share holding or re-paid when next year’s TV money is banked.

I'm made up if Fernandes and Yakubu sign - but are we getting ourselves in to a Leeds type debt in the process? How are we financing these deals (and the salaries that go with them)? Do we have a secret sugar Daddy or are we crippling ourselves with long term interest repayments to the bank? Will we be top the debtors league also? If anyone can enlighten me I'd appreciate it. (I am happy, honest ? just concerned).

Why do you want to be taken over by some foreign invester that will never love our club, only the money it puts in his wallet. I admit BK is far from perfect, but he’s ablue, and in my eyes thats better than 1 20mill kitty. He has broken the everton transfer record for what will be 3 successive seasons beatti-AJ-fernabdes-possibly Yak, so whats the problem. Lets show the others it can be done on a limited budget, with a good gaffer, and a chairman who wnats the best for his club. He is the only chairman in the league that doesnt take a salary, he wants the best for EFC. Seriously, would you enjoy being a Man City fan at the mo, loads of average foreigners no1’s heard of, and a foreign manager, and a chairman who has an arrest warrant on his head-no thanks. Il stick with what BK can afford, and Leons, Vaugns, Anichebe’s, even Rooneys coming through. COYB’s

Actually Walshy the Fernandes deal falls 600k short of our record but think he will smash it next week with £11 mil on the Yak (heres hoping) :)

Havent Birmingham just had a new major investor in? That Cheung guy or whatever his name is? It also says that Mittal has had talks with Terry Tesco over the whole Kirkby project!

Actuallt Dan McKie, there have been many figures banded about regarding to the Fernandes Deal, buut the majority seem to state that Benfica have accepted 6mill for their 50% share of Manny. Although im no carol vordeman, if i do my math correctly, it works out that the other 50% will be around.....6mill, i cant see a 3rd party investor selling on the cheap. That equals a grand total of around 12mill, smashing Evertons transfer record. Although im sure it will be anounced as an ’undisclosed fee’ so we’ll never know the true amount.

when everything is sorted with the ground mittal will takeover everton becuse the everton board knows something going to happen that why we have money to spend now
simon
Posted 17/08/2007 at 16:14:22
actually Dan you will find we have broke the record we have paid £6m rising to £8m to benfica and between £4-6m to that group who owned the other 50% of him, and correct me if im wrong but didnt we pay our debts off not long ago so borrowing another £30m would be ok (look at manure’s debt of £700m.

Why do some people talk as if they have "inside knowledge".
Steve whoeveryouare, you know no better than anyone what is about to happen with regards to any takeover and to say that you do is just folly.

Just to say something in response to people thinking terry leigh could mount a takeover. As I understand it, he’s the chief exec of tesco, not a big shareholder. So i’m sre he earns alot of money by normal standards, but no way near enough to own a football club.

I wewrent being funny in my reply to Walshy saying we had broken our transfer, there are a few stories about how much we have paid and to whom,I heard that it was £6 mil to Benfica (escape clause) and £2 million to the other lot because it works on his salary&development & potential and the fee is worked out on that, they were just a sponsor! Who knows and who cares tho,we have him now! COYB

Here’s the real reson, you’ll have noticed that Bully Wyness is a big bloke so therefore he has a big sofa and when Bill put his hand down there looking for his Architects for Dummies book he’d just dropped hey presto there was 20 mill in used readies.
See you’ve just got to ask the right people.

I hope we get taken over by an Indian. I’m already looking forward to my half time Rogan Josh and a Chang. A nice jewel plated golden elephant in Goodison would sort out the ’dilapidated’ toilets. Worked in the gulshan!

I’snt that Robert Earl a Bilionaire??? maybe he had a bit of loose change in his pocket? I don’t think the board will put the club back in debt???
As an Indian Everton Supporter and Season Ticket Holder I dont mind if Mittel takes over - multy billionaire - can only be good for EFC although I dont think we should spend whatever on any player as Chelsea -but as long as we spend wisely as we do now all is good, its the only way we can be prem Champions or Champions league winners. COYB!!!

There will be no takeover of EFC unless we are an attractive proposition, which means having the ability to generate more revenue... which I’m afraid means the common sense vote of Yes!
COYB - three more points this weekend and another goal from ossie + an AJ strike!

walshy, the point is we need someone with serious cash and proven track record in running major sporting clubs (eg the glaziers). Who cares if it is a blue that runs the club? That doesn’t matter, what matters is they always do what’s best for the club and bring back the glory days, what evidence is there to indicate that a fan is more likely to achieve that than a foreign investor???

There once was a man called Yakubu,
wore number 9 and became a true-blue,
when the african nations struck, Everton were fucked,
and made the Gladys cry Boo-Hoo !!

Mr Roobert Earl persuaded Philip Green to lend the Club £20m quid to stop Mr. Moyes from resigning on Tuesday of last week. If Mr. Kenwright visits this site, perhaps he'd like to comment...
Brian Wolf

The Moyes quitting thing is bollocks. He apparently walked out at the start of the month, then a week later he had supposedely resigned and then a couple of days after that he had resigned again.
If this is so, how come the news outlets etc didn’t pick any of this up. It’s all rumours started by bored fans and theorists.

Posted 17/08/2007 at 19:56:50
Brian, one news outlet did actually have a small story on this very issue (Daily Star on Sunday). Namely that Moyes had a meeting with Kenwright and threatened to resign if he wasn’t given more financial backing. Nobody else has picked up on it but you do have to ask the question why have we got this money now. Also please listen to David Moyes interview on Sky Sports today where he says the board realised that if Everton are to advance then now was the time to spend some money.

John Crawley,
I am not saying you are wrong (or rather the Star was wrong) but I heard Davey say the board had been very supportive with no sign of acrimony in his voice although I do appreciate that ’diplomacy’ can get in the way. Also, keith Wyness has been saying for a few weeks now that ’some transfer windows develop early and some develop late’ and hey-ho it developed late! I don’t think all this happened due to some row at the Club last week. I think Prince William may have a point!
