David Conn Article in the Guardian

Comments (15)

This article hits the nail right on the head when he informs us that Tesco will be making an estimated £1m a WEEK from their proposed store in Kirkby. Without Everton they simply wouldn't get planning permission to build such a large supermarket. No wonder Sir Terry Leahy is so keen on the move.

That’s why they are prepared to give us £50m mate. It’s good business for them, it’s good business for us and it’s good business for Knowsley. Everyone wins! Isn’t it great! Exactly like Wyness said a win win win situation.

If that’s true we should decline further talks until they make a suitable offer like clearing all Evertons debt both present and future and a suitable percentage of the stores profits even I might be tempted

Tesco have approx 2300 stores (2000 of which are in the UK) Their profit last year was 2.2 billion pounds, so they make around 1 million profit per store PER YEAR. Since the Kirkby store will be very big, I’d expect it will be more than averagely profitable, but not 365 times more! Hence it is likely that David Conn made an honest mistake. If correct though, Roy Coyne’s suggestion would be very nice indeed!

The yes at all cost voters will ignore this post from John Crawley just like they have ignored the Colin Fitz posts. Some of Them dont care as long as it knocks off some travelling time between journeys they make on match days..Those that believe Tescos are in it because Terry
Leahy is an evertonian want locking up.Tesco do fuck all for any one they do buisness with OTHER THAN SCREW THEM OVER.Check out what farmers in this country and worldwide have to say about the Tesco regime. Farming has been made virtually extinct in Britain thanks to Tesco sqeezing margins to a point were profit is impossible unless its theirs. Tescos are bandits who prey on the little guy and its these people you yes voters want to make as bedfellows. Shame on you.Wake up before its to late.Do you really want EFC to be another statistic who have been back doored by these twats.Without EFC these cut throats cant sell a tin of beans in Kirkby so why rush in to it?.Lets do our home work boys
and hold on to what we have.Selling out our souls to these Bastards aint what I signed up for.

Barry,
Everyone wins, you say. Methinks some will win more than others; while some will lose a hell of a lot in the long run.

TURN OVER 1M per week.

Most groceries are low profit margins? arent they like 5%? granted tesco sell more than that.

But, why is it a big deal they make profit?!!?

Some of you people have no brains.. seriously, so you think they should give us 50m for nothing?! ROI ROI ROI ROI ROI ROI ROI ROI.

sigh..

I would like to know who made the statement that Tesco are giving us 50 million.
The maths go something like this (I think)
Land value 50 million - Once there is a stadium and retail development on it (Current value negligible).
Stadium value 100 million but only costs 75 million (maybe there?s somthing wrong here?)including building a retail development for Tesco and others?
Everton only have to pay 50 mill for 199 year lease at a rent to be decided which is funded by sale of Goodison and naming rights and long term debt????
Tesco are perfectly within their rights to expect profit and return but as a representative of a major suppllier to them for a number of years let me tell you they take no prisoners and give no quarter.
I say lets enjoy the footy on the pitch in that crumbling historic monument and leave the decision to those who history will show either made or killed off EFC.
But remember people do not change (Kings dock, fortress sports fund, NTL, I speak to Walter every day,I have a million but I?ve magically found 20 mill to buy Johnson out!!)
Ring any bells among the sheep.

Tony Marsh, Do you not recognise that Market Forces are the determinant of successful business strategy?? Tesco are a successful operator in a ket retail space. Essentially, Everton are trying to be successful too, though in a different sector of retail business. Like it or not TOP FLIGHT FOOTBALL IS BIG BUSINESS and without an Abramovic type sugar daddy we have to improve as a business to WIN in this GAME and BUSINESS. It’s a bit like Old Blue Eyes said re Love and Marriage...’you can’t have one without the other!’ Another adapted line from that great song seems apt ’It’s an institute you can’t disparage’!! (Though doubtless you’ll keep trying, hey Tone!)

Here it is in full (from wonderful Old BLUE Eyes!)

Love and marriage, love and marriage
Go together like a horse and carriage
This I tell you brother
You can’t have one without the other

Love and marriage, love and marriage
It’s an institute you can’t disparage
Ask the local gentry
And they will say it’s elementary

Try, try, try to separate them
It’s an illusion
Try, try, try, and you will only come
To this conclusion

Love and marriage, love and marriage
Go together like a horse and carriage
Dad was told by mother
You can’t have one without the other

Shocking news! Tesco in deal to make money.

As several of the posts have already correctly stated Tesco are a business and a damn good one at that (let’s not mention their dodgy practices!) Of course they are in it to make money.

To make sily statements like Roy Coyne does that they should clear our debts is just laughable. Have things really sank so low that we are a charity case?

As or the £50 mill from Tesco, isn’t it a case that they will be paying for developing the area (access roads, pretty little trees etc) which means we wont have to. So it isn’t £50 mill to us but rather £50 mill we wont need to pay as they will be instead.

What a bunch of snobs many of my fellow Evertonians are!I bet there wouldn’t have been this hue and cry-and the mailbag editors are amongst the worst perpetrators-if the Tesco deal was being offered for Bootle,Crosby or any other ’posher’township with an L postcode but outside the City boundary.I’ve lived with the jokes and snide comments all my life because I happened to be brought up in Kikby but we’re all as scouse as you lot,Jimmies, and a bloodysight more sincere than most.
We’ll be made up if Everton comes to our town-and believe me there’s plenty of twee towns that wouldn’t be!

This is getting more like an argument between two drunks who will not budge with rgards to their opinions.

Highlighting negatives and holding them up as facts. Dismissing positives accusing it to be nothing but spin and propoganda.

For fuck’s sake when is the result released so that we can concentrate on the reason we follow the lads. Namely for what they do on the pich.

Like one song goes " My head is spinning".

Here’s to a good result at Reading today.

Tony Fryer While I was joking what is so silly about negotiating a deal that is better to Everton there must be an awful lot of charity cases in the business world if driving a hard bargain is charitable these people that have voted yes with out knowing all the facts surprised me as most evertonians are sceptical by nature we leave it to the kopites to believe in fairy tales,Just ask your self one question if the deal is so great why have the club only leaked certain aspects instead of being open with us I have not advocated taking any options as not enough information is forth coming But my gut reaction is that if it sounds too good to be true then actually it is too good to be true and this moronic logic that people who vote no because its 4 miles a way are really either thicker than a kopite or are just adolescents who dont understand that for some this decision is more about future prospects than 4 miles
