Last Call for City Center

Comments (25)

A lot has been written in the last 10 months on the move and much is still to be uncovered by the club after the vote has closed. I have never trusted the club from the outset on this project... too many vested interests have been at the center of this project. The money trail will eventually stop at the doorstop of those who stand to most profit from this exercise and that will be the custodians and hidden benefactors of our club.

The drip drip feed of the release of the Kirkby plans has only further complicated the situation and in the end, once all the Yes and No voters have seen the full and true plans in broad-daylight, then one feeling will rise up like no other and shout... Conned!

It will be like being blindfolded and taken for a long ride outside of your city and dropped off the back of a bus in the middle of nowhere. A quick check around and the first sign that the familiar Liverpool skyline is nowhere in sight, except for Tesco carrier bags drifting like tumbleweed across a vast retail park. Welcome to the "me too" strip mall, shopping trolleys, shoppers fighting for car park spaces and the wife & kids who set about their battle plans for their weekly shop.

Apparently there will be a football ground somewhere in this shopping jungle and maybe a plastic pub full of Tesco shoppers tired from their weekly shop. Oh, but hang on, must not forget, I have to pick up the wife & kids and the Tesco shopping after the final whistle and then spend an hour or two crawling out of the car park to the edge of retail park.

STOP right there! I don't need a vote on this because every blue cell in my body tells me that this is wrong and I should be somewhere else except this place.

Enjoy Kirkby, really.... but I will be in one of the many cracking city center pubs, watching the game and laughing my ass off at the reds fans with my wife and her Tesco shopping trolley fooking miles away. We all have to make choices and this one was the easiest choice I ever had to make.

Good post....

I don’t think the club realise how much support they will lose. I have spoken to a number of people who feel like you do.

The attempt to railroad the club out to Kirkby is not for the good of the club or its fans. Like you I believe it will serve individuals and vested interests only, thats why we have the almost hyserical "yes but! - no but!" put downs by those representing the Club of the Goodison and The Loop alternatives. It is simply wrong.

If yuo wont travel 4 miles to watch the blues then you’re not one of us anyway.

You’re not a blue like me on the basis of 4 miles.

Personally, if we decided to play at Marine’s ground I’d be first one in still... thats being a proper Evertonian.

Yuo don’t have to agree, you can even vote no, but its not concerning for some to say "i’m not going". Its 4 miles.. anyone who won’tt go out of ’principal’ needs thee head examining or arent proper Evertonians, rather, they are just people who go a match every weekend.

Anyone would think we were moving to milton keynes!

You so called "fans" make me laugh.
So if Everton relocate to Kirkby you’re not going the match anymore.

Good then, as you are obviously not a fan of Everton, just someone who follows a team that happens to be inside a certain radius from your home.

I would say burn your season ticket in protest but I very much doubt you have one.

Well done the Board!!

They are the real architects of this disharmony nad wretched in-fighting.

They give me no confidence that they should lead this great club and its terrific fans. Divide and conquer.

After this who can trust them?

Steve Williams.

"After this, who can trust them?"

After what, giving the fans the opportunity to use their own intelligence and opinions and voting on the move ? The callous, unfeeling bastards.

What’s the alternative, not giving fans an opportunity to vote and just doing it anyway ?

Jesus wept fella, what exactly is that you want ?

Seems to me that whatever the club does, you’ll find fault with it somehow.

Talk about a ’no win’ situation!

Utter nonesense!

I’ll be there in Kirkby with a great deal of relishment, i’m grateful for our club giving us the vote when they didn’t have to and i’m grateful they’ve allowed us to vote in the comfort of our own homes - letting us make a considered judgment in our own time.

Well done EFC and I can’t wait for our new home to be built.

I would vote ’no’ to Kirkby, however if the decision goes against my own personal stance on the issue and Everton end up in Kirkby I would still 100% go to matches.

Cribb n Coyne what will you do, when Everton move, boo hoo hoo,
to that land so far away no supporters can make their way, Give us a clue just who you support, is it Everton or the rednose hordes, Coz all you do is whinge and cry that Everton will surely die, if they move so far away that you can’t get a pint on matchday...
Just a little prose for you to think on whilst you have a poo!!
Well, you talk through your arse don’t you!!

Ok Gibbons you turd how long have you been going to games I have missed 5 games at goodison since 1958 so you ignorant twat how long have you had a ticket so its your view or no view grow up or better still find a new hobby like cos Evertonian you ain’t
Sandy Brown
16   Posted 18/08/2007 at 20:12:39

If he doesn’t want to go to the match when we move to Kirkby, it’s up to him. It’s his money, his choice. I’m not a season ticket holder, but I go to as many games as I can. To be honest, I highly doubt I’ll go to as many games in Kirkby as I do at Goodison. My choice, my money. Doesn’t make me less of an Evertonian.

Part of the match day experience for me is the walk to the ground, the familiar old streets, the familiar pubs, a cup of tea and a sarnie in the Church - call me an oul arse, but I find that more attractive than heading out to a huge shopping centre in Kirkby, to a ground sandwiched between a load of chain stores and cafes, and a couple of plastic "theme" pubs.

If Kirkby turns out to be as satisfying an experience as Goodison, I’ll go there just as much. If not, I’ll pick my matches and maybe there’ll be less incentive to pick some of the duller games.

Let’s be honest about this - some fans are simply not going to feel the pull to go to so many games in Kirkby. It’s no bid deal, Wyness and Leahy seem to think we can fill a 50-60,000 seater out-of-town stadium week in week out, so they obviously know something I don’t.

Thanks for the laugh Roy, and my dad is bigger than your dad!
you’ve missed 5 games? where were you! Anfield with the Cribb?!
You, Cribb n Sandy Brown (yeah right thats his real name) think that most Evertonians are like yourselves, it’s either your way or no way.. I think you’ll find your wrong! once the decision is made, only the few bitter n twisted turds like you will carry on the arguments! Whether its no or yes life goes on, true supporters will follow the club wherever it may be... it seems if the vote goes against you and your ilk, you’ll either go less or stay away altogether.. really?! go have a word with yourselves!

Tom Morris:

Clearly you are blinkered. I’ll spell it out in as many simple words as I can.

The Board has:

1. Given NO real detail as to what options they have considered.
2. Given NO information on their market research as to why Kirkby is the ONLY option.
3. Given NO financial breakdown as to who foots the bill for how much for what, and for how long.
4. Denied the fans the opportunity of comparing the Kirkby site against any other by publicly stating there are NO merits of any other site.
5. Threatened the fans that a NO vote will kill Kirkby and we would be left to rot at Goodison.

Please tell me how anyone can use their intelligence and form a reasoned opinion when next to NO information is available? It is precisely this that gripes me so much. We are asked to vote with only propaganda to work with - on both sides I may add.

On top of all that the Board knew or ought to have known that giving fans the apparent Hobson’s choice would lead to this bitter in-fighting that is threatening to break up the Everton family.

If only they had been honest and open from the outset then there would be no need for any of this.

It is precisely for these reasons that I, and many thousands of other Evertonians, don’t trust the Board. Now if you don’t like my views, then that’s fine, but don’t try to make out they are invalid. Because if you do, then you are doing down many of our family, and I bet BK and KW are lapping it up. As I said divide and conquer.

What we really need is a cooling off period when all parties can offer full information. The only way to do this is to vote NO and force further information into the public arena. You never know, when we are all better informed we may just decide that Kirkby is the best after all. Surely you don’t believe all that tosh about the club ditching Kirkby if there is a no vote? Believe me BK stands to lose £50m Kirkby is ditched (information directly from KW in the literature given out). Whatever the outcome, at least we would all have got there together and no-one can have any recriminations or accuse the various sides of underhand tactics.

Bloody Hell, what is going on here? I m concerned that we are ripping ourselves apart , while those in the board, who ought tom have made the decision anyway, calmly do a Pontius Pilate and just let us get on with agonising about moving out of our city.
I don’t ever want to see us leave this city. I think that we will just become a club, maybe successful, maybe not but we will not be a Liverpool club, we will have left our roots behind. Anyway, that’s just my view, I’ll fully respect any Evertonian who doesn’t think it matters.
I’ll go to the game, maybe not as much, maybe a bit more..but I’ll go. So will most Evertonians but please remember, especially you Tom, that whichever way this goes a lot of us are going to feel hurt and will say things in the heat of the moment, which we normally wouldn’t.
For the life of me I cannot abide Bill Kenwright as chairman of this club. I know he is; it’s a fact of life. I know he’s an Evertonian but I still don’t trust him. Too many incidents for me;The King’s Dock, NTL,Fortress Sports, so he might be an Evertonian but I don’t think he will ever willingly reliquish control of EFC.
Just ask yourself why are we being given the vote! If there is truly, no alternative to Kirkby what is the point of us voting.
I’ll tell you why I think we’ve been given the vote. It’s to cover Kenwright’s arse. If it works out, then he will receive the plaudits for being such a great fellow and letting the decision be taken by all the Blues. If it goes to ratshit, then he will be able to say we voted for it.
I can’t understand why there is such a god almighty rush for us to make the most important decision in Everton’s history.

Myself! I would want to see the detailed plans that Bestway and LCC come up with. If they are rubbish, we will then have a clear conscience about what decision we are making. They have only had a few weeks to come up with an outline plan, for god’s sake, will a few months be too much to ask to see if the last chance to stay in Liverpool or not, is a viable one.

Kenwright in my opinion, has abrogated his responsibility and left it to us to decide. So let’s see what’s on offer before we make our minds up.
