What a waste

Three points to be had at Reading and the opportunity spurned, some points worth mentioning:

a) Hibbert is diabolical at passing and the sooner he is replaced with Jagielka the better. Add Valente to that list of players that need displacing from the first team for lack of quality ? Baines and Jagielka in now please. Stop pissing about, Moyes. You've bought quality, play them, you twat!

b) The side rely too much on Arteta for an outlet/creativity; if he is off-form then there is no-one to step up to the plate. Cue Fernandes but it should have been Pienaar on today from the start.

c) Late fucking subs again ? does Moyes ever learn? Bringing on substitutions half way through the second half is TOO LATE. Jagielka on with minutes left??? This a fucking joke. The side should have been changed at the beginning of the second half in an effort to put right a line-up that was far too defensive for a game against Reading.

d) Take £4M for Neville. We don't need Carsley and Neville in the same side ? it is too restrictive in allowing us to go forward.

e) Stop being conservative Mr Moyes (Aggghhhh - it's so fucking annoying). Reading are shit and were there for the taking today today. Change the set-up to beat crap sides. Jagielka, Pienaar and perhaps even Baines should have been right in from the off today.

To me, what was gloriously achieved at Spurs is nullified by a no-show today. This is not a knee-jerk reaction, this is a repeat of the points that have been mentioned ad nauseam over recent seasons. For fuck's sake, change the script!!!

Boring knee jerk reaction.

When will people learn winning a game doesn’t make us the best in the country and losing one game doesn’t make us the worst.

Try to look at the bigger picture.

He does have a point. Moyes has stuck with last years team so losing today was no surprise. The reason Jagielka was signed was to strengthen the side so we would do better in this sort of game but he doesnt play him. Now we have lost no doubt Moyes will change the team but if Fernandez, Jagielka, Baines and hopefully Yakubu are all fit next Saturday will Moyes play them all? I doubt it.

There has to be something seriously amioss with people who won’t look analytically at that defeat and want to leartn (a) what went wrong and (b) what needs to be changed to make it right. For you, Dutch, Moyes, the Players, teh Board, the entyire club can never do anything wrong, evenm when we lose. Which of course makes it completely impossible for you to contribute anything intelligent to the discussion. Accusing people who want Evertonm to do better of having a knee-jerk reaction is so utterly pathetic, you really do not merit the any priviledge to comment. You’re the only idiot who mentioned we were now the worst in the country: no-one else is even thinkling that. They are looking at how we played and asking if a loss was inevitable or could have been avoided. No get on board and provide some valid input to that discussion, or just button it.

Michael your dead wrong about me being unable to see anything wrong in the club, manager or players.

For example I have very little time for Vaughan. No space in the squad for players who are only fit half a dozen games a season.

AJ, when the fuck did AJ forget how to score? I mean seriously I know he contributes with his work-rate but strikers are there to score goals, so stick the ball in the back of the fucking net already.

Yakubu looks set to sign. I think Moyes is making a mistake. I’ve stated already that paying £11 million for a striker prone to laziness and needing three chances to score one goal is an error by our manager.

I’m also unconvinced that Anichebe is going to make it at the top level. He sometimes looks like a poor mans Heskey.

See I have many problems with the team but I just don’t think losing away to Reading indicates anything other then a disappointing loss, not a sign that we are in for a long hard season.

The new signings are experienced players. Jagielka and Pienaar have had the most of two months now to get used to their team mates and the style of play at Everton. The excuse that they need time to bed in doesn’t really wash with me at this stage. The established players,in return, should also now know more than enough about our new signings to be able to accomodate them for the majority of a game.

Moyes has several days between each game to study the opposing team and think about what eleven and style will counteract that team. Playing the same starting eleven from last year, regardless of the opposition, when we have a better quality of squad overall, is ridiculous.

Anthony is right to say that Reading were there for the taking. Yes, Spurs are far more creative and the team setup on Tuesday was spot on in ways to deal with this. But to put out the same eleven against Reading, when there was creative quality like Pienaar and McFadden left on the bench is mindboggling.

If Moyes is serious about a top four or top six finish this year he has to want to start as he means to go on. Waiting six or eight or ten games to play our best eleven is a waste.

I wonder what you’re reaction was when we beat spurs this week? i didn’t hear any complaints about phil neville or david moyes’ substitutions then. admittedly, he can leave it too late to make changes occasionally, but christ, you are the typical negative evertonian aren’t you? we lost away at reading! we’re not the first club to do so! why would you have had pienaar on from the start? he’s had fifteen minutes of premiership football. and why would you change a winning team?

calm down! I have just flicked through my copy of The Essential History of Everton to remind myself. It may be a different game these days, I acknowledge, but our first 4 results in 84/85 were 1 win, 1 draw and 2 defeats. We still won the league with a 13 point gap including losing 3 of our last 4!! Like most of the readers here, I believe we have made a great start and am sure Moyes has learnt from this. COYB!!

Dutch the injuries that vaughan has had are hardly the norm for being injury prone,I am not so sure about Victor as his first touch is poor but hes still learning his craft.Yaks goals per game ratio is not bad of course you could name more prolific scorers but at what price the Guy will improve our options the big question is how long before the new guys get a chance after Spurs game I would not have expected any changes, but now surely Jags and baines will get there chance and hopefully Manny and Yak too but when you look at it that’s a lot of changes to make at once and Moyes is not that keen on change

All these people claiming we need to pick-apart what went wrong and change the team weren’t saying that this week when we were top of the league after beating Spurs.

Lets be fair and agree that losing to Reading is annoying but not a sign that the end is near.

This time last season people like Tony Marsh continually commented that the season would fall apart but it didn’t and Everton finished 6th.

Lets try take this loss as a knock on the chin and accept that if we win two of every three games things are going to be positive this season.

That’s odd Dutch because elsewhere you talk about the virtues of the small squad and how Moyes gets the most from his players. I concede that the guy knows how to organise a defence, What Moyes has failed to do for me is think his way around opposition to use astute tactical nous to make up for the limitations of the squad. When things go well for the team, we do ok. We don’t know how to kill opposition off as Michael alluded to about the Spurs game and when we go behind or have to adapt, Moyes’s tactical frailties are laid bare. As for the squad size, today illustrated the problem. First 11 okay - options on the bench to change the system - limited. Since Moyes doesn’t know how to use a substitution effectively I don’t see this aspect of our game improving particularly when we are limited by injuries or an expanding african contingent that will no doubt disappear in January when it comes to the crunch.

Blaming the kids Dutch that is poor. Of course Anichebe is going to look like a poor mans Heskey. How long has he been a Proffessional footballer for? Not even two years. Judge him in another ten years when he is actually Heskey’s age.

Your prediction on Vaughan is very poor. He is 19 years old. A baby in football terms and has had bad luck. He is not injury prone. Are a knee inury, severed artery and dislocated shoulder similar injuries? No they are completely different and on different parts of the body. He fought his way back from a very serious injury that could have finished his career. At least give him a chance. You are right about Johnson but I have knew for ages he is not a natural goalscorer whereas Yakubu is. Yakubu’s record speaks for itself and If he does not fit in then his place will be taken by Vaughan, Anichebe or Mcfadden. What he will bring is competition and that is what we need.

Michael, are you OK mate? I’ve noticed that your comments over the last couple of weeks have become steadily more vitriolic. I reckon you calling Dutch an idiot who can’t contribute anything intelligent to the mailbag lacks class and as Editor-in-chief (or whatever your title may be) I would expect better from you. On the other hand, Dutch could have phrased his initial comment more diplomatically...

Granted, it was a major wrench to lose to Reading today, however just like several people have posted in the last couple of post-Spurs days - Being top of the league after 2 matches is not a major achievement and does not automatically mean that with Yakubu and Manny on board (if and when that hapens) we will suddenly become title contenders or even "top-4" regulars. The aim should be to consolidate that 5th spot ahead of Spurs and the rest of that mini-league and then "move to the next level" (all footballers use that and I reckon it’s utter garbage).

Taking the positives from this defeat, hopefully it’ll remind the team (and the manager?) that we’re not of the quality where we can amble through in second gear like Chelsea did against Reading the other night.

15   Posted 18/08/2007 at 19:52:51

Connor, a knee inury, a severed artery, dislocated shoulder and only being fit to make half a dozen appearances a season so far pretty much says to me injury prone player.

Regardless of age we are talking about a guy who because of injuries hasn’t had a preseason for three years.

Big Dunc was continually slagged off for his injury problems but even he never had such a bad run over three years.

I think Vaughan looks exciting when he plays but if he’s never fit enough to contribute then whats the point of having him in the squad?

AJ on the other hand has proved that he can score goals so Moyes needs to find a way to make that happen.

I regard Moyes as a genius but I admit he’s not getting the best out of AJ.

Anthony,

Whilst there are points in your post which are worthy of consideration, your foul language and abuse of Moyes as a person is a disgrace and is a real indication of the depths to which this website has sunk in allowing (or otherwise editing) it as a contribution.

Editors and moderators alike on this board take some time to uphold some standards. I am not ’Disgruntled from Tunbridge Wells’ but am not alone in thinking standards have really dropped on here.

And for what it’s worth, I said about 16 months ago we needed 2 new full backs. Neither HIbbert nor Valente are first choice so let’s wait until they are replaced and then judge.

Thanks

Get a grip guys!

Reading are not shit - they are a very hard-working, well-coached top half of the table Premier league side.

Even so, I agree with DM’s comments afterwards - we didn’t deserve to win today, but we did deserve to draw. We dominated the second half, missed chances, and hit the bloody woodwork twice.

So no disaster. Takeaways? Neville is better than Hibbert at right back. We need more in midfield (and Fernandes is coming). Anichebe is not hacking it upfront, he loses far too much possession (and Yakubu is coming). And Valente is weak at left back (and Baines will play next week).

We have the best squad we’ve had for twenty years. We lost very narrowly away today to a top half of the table team. Don’t panic!

As regards not playing the new lads yet, Moyes won’t change a winning team for no good reason, and I think he’s right not to. What would player moral be like if he kept dropping players after a result like spurs? It took a long time to get the team spirit we have. I know jags is better than hibbo but we are gonna need hibbo this season we don’t want his moral/confidence shattered when we do. We have a squad of players who need to know if they perform they are gonna be in the team, otherwise you get form players who may not be considered as good as another player in their position left out the team. Remember bar the yobo inj this same team dicked "top four" spurs in there own back yard four days ago, how do you drop someone after that.

20   Posted 18/08/2007 at 19:31:17

I have to admit it does look like the same old from last year, but Moyes does like to bed the players in slowly and don’t forget we are missing Cahill & Vaughan and once the new players settle in it should look better.
We all know Neville & Carsley shouldn’t play together and Hibbert probably has trouble passing water but things will get better I’m sure.

Neil, I don’t doubt that we have the best squad in years and with the likely additions I’m very upbeat on the future. However, I’m browned off by Moyes’ inability to adapt to playing different sides and his ability to recognise when something is going wrong and change it quickly. It just so happened that the side and personnel put out for the Spurs game were spot on - we needed to shore things up big time to combat their three forwards and hit them on the break - it worked magnificently. Today, was different, we did not need the same level of caution and defensiveness. I could not see one player in tha Reading line up who we should have been overly worried about. Horses for courses FFS - anyone can see that (well obviously not)

Things are the same as last year. Everton are in the Top 6.

Lets be honest Reading beat us at our own game. They worked hard, were well organised, got their goal and were impossible to break down.

You might say Reading did an Everton on us.

After we beat Wigan some people said we were expected to beat a relegation side, but they are now top of the premiership.

So far this season we have beaten the league leaders and the Spurs money bags. Not too bad a start.

Anthony,

just disgraceful, you are just a disgrace. We lost a game by a fluke goal against a side that held Man U to a scoresless game with only 10 men for the last 20 minutes, and who were unlucky to lose to Chelsea 2-1, who they were leading 1-0 at half time. They are not a poor side, they are extremely well organized. We did not play well today, Arteta had a terrible game, couldn’t cross the ball today to save his life, but everyone has bad games.

But you calling Moyes a twat, and then saying you don’t apologize for your language because you do the same at the game??? That is what is disgraceful about you. When I take my kid to a game, and hear a person like you yelling things like that I unfortunately can’t do what I want to do to them because I have to set an example for my child. So I would have to explain to him not to do such a thing, that is is not right and respectable people don’t do such a thing. There is no place in the game for people like you, you show no class and no respect. If you have all the answers to know how to manage a football team and win every game why aren’t you doing so?? The pay is good, what’s stopping you?? No, you prefer to sit in the background and yell obscenities at others when they make a mistake. Unfortunately I will have to tell my child that there are many of you, and that to become like you would be completely unacceptable.

What an inane and idiotic comment - so lets get this right I’m not entitled to express an opinion if I’m not a football manager - how does that work. Maybe you wrap your kid in cotton wool and pretend that the world is wholesome and whiter than white, well he/she in for a rude awakening. A fluke goal? Your so out of touch mate it’s untrue. no wonder Tony Marsh rips the piss out of you week in week out. Dutch I like the way you are positive but sometimes you are to positive. Moyes a genius? He is a good manager but a genius he is not.

Your comments on Vaughan as I have said where poor. You cant compare Vaughan to Ferguson. James Vaughan career has just started whereas Ferguson was in his prime at 24. If Vaughan is as injury prone as Duncan at 24 then I will agree with you but I will judge him at 19 years old. After seeing him fight his way back from a career threatening injury I will give him the benefit of doubt. His enthusiasm was much higher than Fergusons. He actually wants to make it in the game whereas Duncan never really had that passion for the game. I was a big fan of Ferguson but as a season ticket holder and regular visitor to away games there where games where he just didnt look interested. Every striker has there injury problems and Vaughan is just having them early. 5 goals in 7 games speaks for itself.

Andy Johnson just isnt a goal scorer. He is a very important part of our team. He has lots of pace and is one of the quickest players over 5 yards but his technique, finishing and first touch are championship standard. Dont get me wrong he will get you goals but on a consistent basis I very much doubt it.

Go to sleep Anthony and lay off the sauce. You’re pathetic, challenging people to a fight on the internet, what a man you are. Everyone can have an opinion, but it’s the way you express it, as if you know all and he is, as you say, a twat. That’s quite a twat to have been named manager of the year twice and gotten us into Europe 2 out of the last 3 seasons.

Can we get a sense of proportion here please, there have only been 3 games. We beat a mediocre Wigan and an over-rated Tottenham and we’re champions-elect, we then lose a close one to Reading (not a bad side by any measure)& the wheels have come off, lets sack the manager. Had McFadden and Johnson converted chances everything in the garden would be rosey. Anichibe, from my seat scuffed his shot for the 2nd goal against Wigan, it was hardly a covincing finish. My point being the difference between success and failure is mighty thin.

Some things about Everton drive me nuts...Hibbo’s continued inability to pass a ball, regularly playing Carsley & Neville togther will win SFA & Osman’s no more a left winger than Margaret Thatcher.

But some of the criticism in this sting is over the top. Anichebe’s been in the team for a year, its too early to write him off. Graeme Sharp looked bollocks when he started & more recently Arteta didn’t look too special initially.

We are a decent team and all likelihood a better team than the one that finished 6th last season, which points to Everton finishing higher, but a stack of other teams have also spenty big and are looking to improve.

Next week should see Fernandez and Yakubu in the squad, bring on Blackburn & lets get the show back on the road.

I was also going to point out to you that going to an Everton game isn’t like the American Football. Grown men swear, shout themselves silly, get passionate, get drunk afterwards - woe forbid David that your kid should be subjected to such evils. You were the person getting aggressive:

I am in a state of shock!

Not about todays defeat, no not at all, Reading are half decent as we all found out last season, especially at their place.

No, I am in shock at some of the utterly ridiculous comments I have just been reading in previous posts.

We have, without any shadow of a doubt, got the best Everton squad for years at our disposal, yet people find the need to come on here 3 games into the season and start slagging off players and management styles.

1. We have been beaten today by Reading, I agree that it is frustrating, but at the start of the season to take 6 points from our first 3 games would have been classed as a good start.

2. To even suggest we should sell Phil Neville is on the verge of offensive to the club and the player. He gives his all week in, week out and does a good job in every position he is asked to play. All the best squads have 2 players for each position so why should we be any different. Saying we have Carsley so don’t need Neville is naive to the extreme.

3. We are about to embark on one of the biggest spending sprees we have ever seen, so why the hell are people saying negative things about Moyes transfer targets (Yakubu). Name me another proven premiership striker available for £11million with the best years ahead of him, he is 24 by the way. We have played with a big man little man partnership up front during all our successful seasons, do you not see that Yak/AJ has the pace, power and potential to cause any defence problems?

4. To slag off Vaughan and Anichebe is disgusting! James is a great striker for his age with bags of pace and the willingness to work hard he is going to be a fantastic striker in the furure. To call him for sustaining some freak injuries is pathetic. The lad has battled back from a career threatening knee injury already so lets give him some credit because he has done well in the games he has played. Vic will also be great for us if you guys stop slagging him off. He will learn from Yak when he signs and become a very useful player.

5. When is the last time you can remember us having a bench full of international outfield players, because that is what we are gonna have soon. The top teams always have very strong benches and that is what we should be aiming for. Also, remember we still have Tim to come back who is one of our most influential players.

6. Look at this;

Howard - USA international keeper

Jag - England B defender

Neville - England International

Baines - England U21 regular

Valente - Portugals left back

Yobo - Nigeria regular

Lescott - Best defender in England?

Fernandes - Will be a Portugese star for years

Arteta - One of the best midfielders in europe

Cahill - Australian international and one of the best goalscoring mid players in the prem

Carsley - Irish international

Pienaar - South African International

Andy Johnson - England striker

James McFadden - Scotland regular

Yakubu????? - Proven premiership scorer and Nigeria first choice

Just count your blessings guys, we have a great squad to be proud of.

When did we last have this sort of class to pick from?

Think about it!

Connor, regarding Vaughan your right 5 goals in 7 games speaks for itself. But 7 starts in three years speaks even louder.

You simply cannot state that Vaughan is getting all his injuries now and later on he’ll be fine.

If Vaughan is injury prone now chances are it will always dog his career. As he gets older the injuries will take longer to recover.
Anthony Newell
31   Posted 18/08/2007 at 22:33:29

Jazzman (FFS), I think your missing the point, what part of the following do you not understand?:

I want Moyes to succeed, I want him to become a better manager, I want Everton to pick up points against inferior sides, I want Everton to nail shit sides at home, I want our best eleven on the pitch, I want things changed when things aren?t working. I don?t want Everton to get caned again in Europe. I want Everton to live up to what is on the club crest

If you think that dropping points against Reading is a-ok because we won the last two (and one of them very unconvincingly at that) then your obviously on a different footballing wavelength to me. To be losing against Reading in this manner is unacceptable and it doesn’t matter what went before or what comes after. Each performance needs treating on it’s own merits and shouldn’t be bundled into some "6 points out of 9" bollocks
Anthony (Jazzman - Is That Better FFS)

Anthony Newall, I really think think you need to get a grip of yourself and really think about all the stuff you have come out with.

I think it is you who does not understand.

Obviously you want Everton to do well, you are a blue, albeit a very hard to please one.

I don;t give a toss if we win ’Unconvincingly’ every week. The spurs result was fantastic and the first half performance was a great ’strike while the iron is hot’ 45 mins. We hit them with 3 goals and shut up shop. Top class defensive display in the second half after wrapping the game up in the first, 2 contasting styles of play there I think Moyes!

I guess you are not happy with the Spurs performance then? Would you rather have drawn but played like Brazil?

I can’t believe you are justifying your ’rant’ at this stage of the season. Even the greatest sides in the world lose against lesser teams now and again. Man Utd could not beat reading even with 10 men for the last 20 mins, Reading are note ’Shite’ they are a solid useful side who will give most sides in the league a game this year as they did last year so stop over-reacting the lot of you.

I was sick today when we could not get the goal, as sick as any of you and as a season ticket holder in the Gwladys for 17 years from the age of 13 I want nothing more than to see us beat lesser sides every time we play them, but even United can’t do that with all there stars and The Red Shite have never always struggled against the lesses sides away from home even with their £623million outlay in the last 10 years.

We will start to pick up results from the ’Dogs of war’ type teams and when we do I just hope you all remember to praise us and not look for something else to whinge about!

Hopefully we can replace Hibbert cos he?s pish, Nevile will play right back

Jazzman, or whatever incarnation of the name - Winning against Spurs does not make me feel better about losing to Reading. I can assure you that I do not need to get a grip as you suggest. The only person needing to do that is Moyes in his ability to send out the correct horses for courses. Unfortunately mate, we differ as I do give a toss if we win unconvincingly as it tells me that the previous lessons haven’t been heeded. When I look at the way we played against Wigan I ended up saying thank god for the three points when there really was no need for it to have come to that. I can see there is guge divide in opinion between those fans that are happy to make do and mend and those that want the side to really push on. I’m in the latter camp and a zero return against a Reading side that hasn’t changed significantly changed on the one that beaten 2-0 last season is unacceptable to me, irrespetcive of whether we beat spurs last week

don’t be so smug as to act as if I have never been to an Everton match. I make it over every season and catch a few home games and usually at least one away game. I know all about the fans at the match, have been to the Derby, was actually there when Carsley scored to win us the game 3 seasons ago. The yelling and the passion is great and I have no problem with that. What I have a problem with is people like you calling our manager a cunt. That type of language is disgraceful and there is no place for it.

Anthony,

you sound like a spurs fan... fickle. Or maybe you’ve always been against the only manager we’ve had in the premiership to crack the top 4.

Neville is vital to us, he’s a guy who played for a successful club during their glory years. Fergie only let him go because it was a favour to a player that had served his team so well. If he had been crap he wouldn’t have lasted so long there. He’s a team player who’s comfortable with big games (remember when he shackled viera?) and used to winning.
You think he’s sub-standard because you’re a sheep following the "lets make an england scape goat" crowd. All of englands left backs get exposed because they have no cover from right footed or left footed championship standard players playing in front of them.

Jags is being introduced to the team slowly, it worked before with lescot. And when should you make a substitution? Half way through the second half sounds good to me. Most of the time when a manager makes three changes at half time it back fires on them. Think chelsea vs newcastle in the cup a few years back.

And how shit were reading when they got a draw at old trafford? Fucking hell, who wouldn’t take a draw up there?

They’re a good team and DM pushing our full backs up was to try to nulify their wing play. The best form of defence being to attack.

Get off his back and and give him support, we’re lucky to have such a good manager.

Anthony I’m guessing you weren’t at the match as you were at you PC at 5 to 5. A few comments. Hibbo dealt admirably with an excellent left midfielder and his distribution was very good (particular mention to a great long, cross field ball to Arteta). Secondly, Piennar played a good chunk of the second half and was clearly off the pace losing the ball lazily a number of times in the middle of the park. Third, Reading are not shit! They are well organised and battle for every ball. They’ve also got a bit of quality in the likes of Doyle and Hunt. Ibrahima Sonko was fucking immense at the back. Fourth, maybe AJ could score if he got a bit of decent service! It doesn’t matter who you are if the midfield don’t get the ball to you your not going to score!

David Barks, I really wanted to use that word but held back as I think you have to draw a line somewhere. I hope your kid isn’t reading this site as using those sorts of words isn’t setting a good example at all now is it?

Mark Stone - Hibbo’s distribution was admirable! You must have been watching a different game to me
I don’t care what you say but if we went to Reading last year and got three points then that is the benchmark. Ok, they might be set up like Bolton now but that warranted a different game plan - get it?

There, it’s not just me saying they demand more our esteemed captain thinks so too:

?Let?s change of everybody?s perception and if we have won two in a week let?s go and win the third one. That is what we were aiming for against Reading,? he told evertonTV.

?The lads were so up for this and we are just a little bit disappointed to not come away with a point. When you have got one in the lost column it leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

?If we have aspirations to stay at the top of the league we need to come to Reading and win.?

Changing perceptions is what it’s all about and getting away from this "well we got 6 points out of 9 and should be grateful" mentality

It does frustrate me that Moyes will pick a predictable side game after game. Ok, the players know where they are, how hard they have to fight to get into the side and it helps to breed a siege mentality, but we can’t expect Arteta, Johnson and Yobo to play up to 60 games in a season. No wonder we nearly always die off towards the end of the season.

The players have asked for competition. In the MOTD analysis of the Reading game Hibbert completely lost his man for the three best chances that the opposition had. He should be made to pay with his place going to either Neville or Jagielka.

I understand that Moyes is aiming for a tight midfield with Carsley and Neville, but unless the fullbacks get forward our only outlet is Arteta. If an organised team like Reading marks him out of the game or if he has an off day, we’re reduced to long punts up to Johnson.

It’s obvious that Johnson isn’t the 20 goal a season man that we thought he was going to be, but rather a second striker to run into the channels and create havoc. Maybe Yakubu is the spearhead that we need, but then again, he’s only a 1 in 3 man himself. I do have concerns about how we’re going to score enough goals to break into the top 4, as we’re all two often one dimensional.

What a bunch of easily satisfied Evertonians we have on this thread. No disgrace to lose to reading? For fucks sake we should murder teams like that if we have any aspirations to crack the Big Four.Three games in a week too much-well how are we going to cope in Europe then.
Johnson’s miss was a bloody disgrace and I just hope he loses out on an England place because of it.Striker? My arse.Come on let’s get real we’re the same ols same old Everton.Fact!

Dutch, Vaughan is a great player. You?re an idiot. Anyone of our rivals would take him in a flash. Would you sell? I rate him as our number one striker and worth waiting for.

We are a tight, well organised unit on the whole Terry and I am a Moyes fan. I thought Hibbert had a good game at Spurs, but all too often he loses his man or makes rash tackles around the box and he’s no threat going forward. Neville could marshall the offside trap from that position and, like his brother, he bombs forward and plays some great balls into the box.

We just need a variety of goalscoring weapons at our disposal to break teams down: set pieces, long throws, shots from distance... Hopefully, should Mani sign, he’ll tuck in on the left with Arteta on the right. We could then play a tight midfield of Carsley and Jagielka possibly, with Cahill behind Johnson or we could go two up top.

We just need to vary it a bit and to surprise teams.
