The Mail Bag

Midfield At Reading

Anybody else concerned with the midfield performance? At best it was average.

A couple of thoughts: we really need some width to provide us with other options; Seol and the excellent Hunt showed why. Why is there is no talk of us buying a winger?

Arteta for once wasn't firing on all cylinders, and as we know there was no one to step up and take on the creative role. This just underlines the fact that we need more flair in the midfield, if/when Fernandes arrives that will be the real test. Not how well he plays when Arteta is playing well, but how well he plays when Arteta is rested or having an off day.

Let's hope Manny signs soon and proves to be the player who can stand in for Arteta. COYB!

Pienaar can play on the wing Steve.

I hope we change up the team a bit before next game. The only time we got some width was when McFadden came on, he always looked dangerous when given the ball, perhaps after another week of training he will be fit enough to start next to AJ next week. But I’ve got to point one thing out, we were without 5 players who are most likely first team players. Cahill, Vaughan both out, Yobo missed out, Baines still not quite fit to come in at left back, and Manny, who should be all rapped up this week. Any team is going to struggle eventually when that many first team players are out. Hopefully Yobo, Baines and Fernandes will be able to step in against Blackburn, that will help us immensely.
