Jimmy McFadden

Reading that Anichebe's injury not being bad was a relief today but at the same time I've got to say I want to see McFadden get some starts. I saw the recent stats comparing Yak to our strikers on Skysports and Faddy's numbers were not good but he really never is given many starts as a striker. This seems like a Beattie excuse all too familiar but the thing was last season Beattie had chances and Faddy really didn't. They both really flourished in the second half of the 05-06 season and that was because they were playing. I don't really expect Jimmy to get any games if Yak comes in but I think if he did he'd make us proud.

It is a pity the lad doesn't get more chances... although to be fair he is only just coming back from injury. The other problem with him is he can produce (rare) moments of brilliance but play for long periods without really contributing mmuch at all. Tough decision.

Anyone else notice on Sky this morning when Harry Redknapp asked about Yakubu? He said AJ had better be prepared to keep up with the hard work. Repeatedly said he?s a good player but effectively called him a lazy arse.

The problem with McFadden is that all his best displays have been as sub, he often looks awful when he starts games.
As for Yakubu,I think Harry Redknapp knows what hes talking about when he says he’s not in the 11 Million category for a striker. His heading is also quite poor, so it will be pointless playing high balls forward. But who else is there?

Mark,

I saw that comment from Harry ’Deputy Dawg’ Redknapp this morning. IMO I think the spiv is being a bit bitter as he has signed Yakubu once already and has allegedly been priced out of signing him again this time around.

As for McFadden, I dont think he has ever really been given a fair crack of the whip, not compared to Beattie and Victor anyway.

Can?t say that McFadden is one of my favorites but must admit he seemed to make a difference when he came on at Reading. Perhaps he?s beginning to mature and we?re about to see the best of him more often

Maybe old ’arry would have been able to afford the Yak again had he not spent over the top on Nugent!

In terms of the Yak’s effort levels i don’t think Moyes would sign him if he had any doubts. Hope i’m right anyway!

As for Faddy if he got a bit more consistency and stays free of injury then i think it’d be great.

I agree and with Cahill set to come back in September he may never get that chance. I like Vic but Faddy has more creativity, is unpredictable (not always a good thing)and more likely to score the spectacular.

I don’t think Yakubu is a big enough player to change the dynamic of our play... rather have Mohammed Zidan for £6 Million. World class player, scores and influences every team he has played in, and is built for the Premiership.

McFadden is lightweight and lacks composure, he is a good squad player, not someone who wil raise the level of our team. Yakubu has an impressive scoring record, and I am sure with Arteta’s service, he will be a great success. Moyes is a tight ass, and won’t spend this sort of money without serious thought. I think its good business.

Moyes has a bad track record when it comes to signing strikers.

Pound for pound our best stikers have been Rooney and Vaughan with AJ third.

As for McFadden’s composure I think Charlton would disagree.

His Chip against the cross-bar was as good as anything I have seen our strikers do.

He just needs consistent games and more self-belief at the highest level and he will come good.

Is it Moyeses bad track record of signing strikers? Or an inability of the team to create ’poachers’ opportunities? There must be a reason striker after striker fails ... as I have every confidence Yakubu will.
