Lancashire / Greater Liverpool

I have really enjoyed reading all the pros and cons of the move to Kirkby and how it is out of the city because of boundary changes of the 1970s. When that happened way back then, as a 15-year-old, I was a bit confused as to why they called the Manchester area Greater Manchester and they called our neck of the woods Merseyside. Now being a dyed-in-the-wool St Helener, I couldn?t for the life of me grasp why we wasn?t called Greater Liverpool.

I know a lot of my friends didn?t want to be called scousers and they put Lancashire on their addresses for years and some still do. I heard arguments rage in the pubs and clubs years later of how we should have stayed in Lancashire and we should have remained the great historic county. I myself have an affinity for Liverpool because it is my nearest city and I often visited there in the late sixties to spend my wages off the milk round. Me and my mates used to catch the 320 to the Silver Blades ice rink and we would fall on our arses every time we went on the ice. Used to be great though, when a nice-looking girl would hold on to us and guide us round the ice; was worth the fall.

My point in this tale of yesteryear is: what would have happened to the Kirkby vote if, all those years ago, we had stayed Lancashire or had gone to be called Grater Liverpool? Would the arguments still rage or would they be a little more tempered or even heralded as a great move? Would Kirkby be Liverpool? (I think it would.) I have to say for many, many years I thought it was Liverpool and really I think it is.

I honestly believe in my heart of hearts we will have to put up with a lot of shit form them across the park or over the motorway if we move. But I don?t think it will be too long before the whole area will become under the auspices of the Liverpool region. No doubt you have picked up which way my vote is going. But when it is all over we are still Evertonians. We were before and we will be again. Whatever happens, remember you?re a blue and follow the team. Once a Blue always a Blue. Blues are born not manufactured ? all of that makes you special.

Just to pick up on one minor thing, Mick, don't you feel a little pang when you quote the "Once a Blue, always a Blue" mantra? I have an image etched on my retina that will forever remind me just how hollow that one is...

Mick if only the boundary was the problem but that is only the tip of the iceberg its the figures that don’t add up the if this and if that on the cash projections and the ease in which we would fill the ground with our new on the door fans sadly I and many more like me do not trust this board to be honest and due to the limitation of information that is what we would need to do to vote yes so I am sorry but I will still vote no unless something comes out that allays all my doubts.

Since when should we affect a decision for the future success of EFC on what LFC think. If we had bothered about what our RESERVE side think then we would never have left Anfield and wouldn’t have had someone to look down on for so long. Look at what Tom Cannon says. This guy knows about finance and is right behind the move. The new ground is what WE make it, not just the club. The new place is not far away so an evening in the town is still on.(Especially after many successful Euro nights.
