Just read that we lost out on Johnson of Man City as the lad came through our youth system. [TribalFootball] So we got rid of Baines, Jaga, Johnson and Barton. Probably more too. Was our youth set up that shite or did these guys develop late?

It must have been really shite!

Question of the grass is greener here I think...

Ball, Jeffers, Osman, Hibbert, Anichebe, Vaughan...these are the ones that played regularly in the Premiership. There’re a shedload that have carried on playing in the lower leagues without playing for our first team. Oh and who brought up that lad in Manchester with glass feet?

Granted, we’ve missed out on a fair few, don’t mention the fact that virtually every scouser to ply his trade for Liverpool seems to have been a boyhood Toffee!

Baines wasn’t at Evertons academy was he? I thought he went from Liverpool schoolboys straight to Wigan, unless anyone knows otherwise?

Johnson played for about 5 different teams. It appears as if he was touted about. He did not really join us and I’d be interested to know how much City offered his Dad when they signed him. He’s a mercenary in the making.

The year Jagielka and Barton were released the academy team didn’t gel, so Walter decided not to keep players on merit but to release the whole year group. What a guy!

If liverpool are going abroad to get their youngsters then we should pick up the local talent over the next 5 years.

Fingers crossed though!

jags and barton’s academy year was axed due to cost cutting. They got rid of the whole team to save a few quid. How much did it cost us in retrospect?
