C'mon Moyes

Striker shortage, please confirm new recruits. Why are we still waiting for a striker so close to deadline day? It's becoming really frustrating, it's the last link that could be the difference between Champions League football and eighth. Sort it out soon, Moyes.

I feel the same frustration as we only have very limited options ’Up front’ at the moment. We need a striker with pace and strenght to come in and I believe Yakubu would fit the bill perfectly but for what price?? £12 million is a lot of money but as you stated this could mean finishing in a Champions League place or 8th. Another question, whats happening with Fernandes?? Have we actually signed him?? C’mon Moyes

Yakubu looks as if its fell through...and at £12m can you really argue?
He is not worth that in my opinion. Middlesborough have saw us coming and with the Lucho Gonzalez thing well publicised Steve Gibson will be out for all he can get, and you can’t blame him.
Move on to the next target Davey, there’s plenty more at better value
out there.

So has anyone got a link to this Sky story saying that the Yakubu deal is dead in the water?

I agree with all your points entirely but I think all clubs are going to be doing the same. Whoever Moyes decides to go for we are still going to be paying over the odds as clubs are not willing to do business so close to the transfer deadline. You never know, McFadden might surprise us all this year and start hitting the net regulary and save us £12 million in the process! I can only hope!

Harvey, my friend is a Newcastle fan and he hates Everton. He text me earlier saying Yak deal is off. It’s on Sky. This was after i found out on here. I know his not lieing to me.

The Yakubu deal was apparently reported on Sky Sports News earlier then pulled and hasn’t been reported anywhere else since other than this site which I wouldn’t trust.

http://www.inthenews.co.uk/news/autocodes/premiership-teams-2007-2008/middlesbrough/yakubu-move-everton-off-$1124007.htm

Other than that its not reported anywhere as being on or off to be honest. So far its fair to say everything is speculation. Manny did however have dinner in Nandos which means he must be about to sign.

I also saw Ronald McDonald in McDonalds yesterday so he’s probably on the brink as well.

Shaka - I’ve been watching Sky Sports for an hour now and not once have they even mentioned Everton, let alone anything about Yakubu.

Theres also nothing on theirs or any other website.

I do have cause to argue if the Yakubu deal has fell through yes..For Gods sake Sunderland have just paid NINE million for a Scotch goalie...SUNDERLAND... Yes Sunderland...This is Everton Football Club and so far our biggest outlay is 8.6million..Thats shite in this day and age..12 million is buttons in the modern era and until the transfer fees go down if we want decent to good players then we have to pay over the odds greatly...Look at the price Bellamy went for? Did fuck all at Liverpool yet somehow an inflated price appeared over him..Nugent 6 million?. Never scored a top flight goal..Richardson hardly kicked a ball for Man Utd yet cost 5 million plus..How much do you think Tim Cahill would have cost to prize off Millwall this summer?. A damn sight more than the 2 million we coughed up for him in 2004 I bet..But anyway thats all besides the point...The point is if this deal for Yakubu has fell through then why were we strung along especially by the local media that Everton were really close to buying him for 11 million?. The Echo has become a real source of bullshit..The Official website is completely and utterly crap..Has Fernandes signed for Everton?. I mean officially?. If so then why oh why were we not informed through our Official site?.Its a shambles really..There is not even any updated news on there regarding Fernandes..So I take it he hasnt signed yet which buries the theory Moyes came out with that he will be an Everton player inside 24 hours..That was Thursday night...I think its all just publicity stunts and smoke screens to keep us occupied until the stadium ballot verdict is brought to light then after a fruitless end to the transfer window Evertons board know that the stadia debate will dominate the headlines..I could be being hasty here but I think its all just one big joke..

I don’t believe Moyes’s comments om Fernandes were part of a smokescreen. Whatever else you may say about him, I don’t question his integrity. There’s probably some complication with the third party involvement.

And in that sense, EFC are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. In attempting to give some positive news about Fernandes, the club is criticised when an unexpected complication arises. And when they say nothing, they get criticised too!

12   Posted 20/08/2007 at 21:54:23

Its not that anyone is damning the club but you have to admit that Everton are the kings of botched up transfers..Maybe it is Everton or maybe as Ive said its just a case now that we are merely informed through very very unreliable sources and sources that I expected a bit more truth and accuracy from such as the Official Everton Website and the Echo..I am never one for believing the Sunday paper comic gossip but the Echo should go facts that they know for real and its not looking the case anymore.

Just been watching a Sky interview with Papa Dioup of Fulham and he doesn't even talk in riddles and plain as day says he wants out of Fulham and wants a new challenge. How about adding a bit of height and proven steel to our midfield and go for him? Would certainly give us height and muscle to fair against some of the premiership meatheads.

Dont know why we dont cut middlesborough up and go for ALVES.At 6-8 mill he’s an absolute steal.Runner up in the golden boot last year.Put Van Nistelroy in the shade and scored tons of goals wherever he has been.

Everton should go in for Diop but I dont think they will..Lets put it this way we could do with some big power in there...Come on Everton dont just talk a good game act one too..Moyes gave us that promise..’Our situation has changed. There is money available now and Im going to spend it’. Dont let us down Davie

Why are we knocking Moyes ? All the press have been reporting since the weekend that we’re on the verge of completing a club record transfer for one of the top strikers in the Prem, who will be able to walk into our team. Seems that maybe the press were jumping the gun a little bit, as the clubs were still in negotiations, but now Sky have retracted their story about the deal collapsing there’s no particular reason to think that it won’t go through. I firmly expect Yakubu to be an Everton player by the end of the week, and probably by Wednesday.

If the story is true (http://www.inthenews.co.uk/news/autocodes/premiership-teams-2007-2008/middlesbrough/yakubu-move-everton-off-$1124007.htm) then he will sign. Why? Because its all about wages and he wants to join us, he is not stupid, he’ll sign but its a question about who blinks first.

Just seen the Yakubu story on Sky SPorts news at 11.10pm.

Its smacks to me of Everton trying to negotiate a lower price. It just says that that the two teams are believed to be miles apart in their valuations.

Boro will lower their price as Yak wants to leave and Boro don’t have quite as much money as they once did.

I’m left rendered speechless time and time again by the constant ramblings of some of the posters on this site with regard to David Moyes and his transfer dealings.

Some of the posters here have this imaginary notion that David Moyes or Bullshit Bill simply pick up the phone and make a call to another club and hey presto, the deals agreed and the player targetted simply can’t wait to hold the scarf above his head ...

It just doesn’t work like that. Agents offer players to many clubs in the hope of inflating fees and even then, a player maybe happy where he is or the club are reluctant or unwilling to sell. That’s all before wages are even discussed ...

David Moyes has moved on Beattie, Naysmith and Wright whilst bringing in Pienaar, Baines, Jagielka and more than likely Fernandes. Christ, what do people want from him???

You can rest assured that Moyes will be doing everything in his power to deliver a high quality striker to partner Johnson before the deadline and I for one believe he’ll come up trumps. We were exposed up front against Reading as a team with very little strength up top and I’m sure he’ll be addressing that weakness in the side. That said, I believe James Vaughan has the potential to be a Goodison (Kirby) great ...

Please folks keep the faith and remind yourself of the days not too long ago that saw our famous club parading forwards such as John Spencer and Stevie Watson ...

In Moyes we DO trust.

It could be a complete blessing in disguise if we don’t sign yakubu. As much as i’d like to see him play for us, it is the african nations again this year. And losing him at the wrong time could cost the club dearly.

Mark what most people want to know is ,Did we really try and sign these players?
This happens when a club/board lie to its paying fans over a number of years.
There is no trust for the people who run our club because of there smokescreen lies.
Futhermore can i take this moment to congratulate the Echo and inparticular Dave prentice with his accurate and exclusive journalism.

We should have tried to get John Utaka who’s at Portsmouth now..For 8 million this guy looks the part..Pace,power and so direct..Im not sure whether I believe much about this Vagner Love story to be honest, its more than likely a rebound story for Sky Sports to make some headlines so people will keep watching..I still think Everton will try to put Boro in a no win situation regarding Yakubu..He doesnt want to play for them and they may realise it makes sense to take the money we are offering..
Wayne
26   Posted 21/08/2007 at 08:56:27

Mark Watterson... With all due respect regarding the players Moyes has brought in non as of yet look likely to get into the starting line up now or in the near future.. Im sorry but unless there are injuries to Carsley, Neville or Hibbert then there is no way Jagielka is going to be in the team yet..Same goes for Pienaar..So far Osman has played well and you get the feeling Pienaar is only going to be on standby most of the season and even Baines..Lescott is playing well at left back and unless Stubbs is injured Baines wont be in yet..We all know Moyes wont change it for the sake of it..Fernandes for 8 million will surely walk into the first eleven IF we sign..We have NOT yet signed him. When there are third parties involved problems arise.. So realistically the players Moyes has brought in are only squad players for now with probably only Baines looking like nailing down a regular position eventually.

I think the Vagner Love link is suspect at best, I remember hearing this rumour the other week on a forum. Sky Sports probably have some kind of ’random link generator’ which they utilise in the same way as the Family Guy crteators write a plot
Ross Trotter

Yep, Utaka looks awesome, you can’t put a price on that goal he scored against Bolton, pace, power...

Hope we don’t sign Yak if he’s valued at 12 million, that’s ridiculous.

Wagner Love - whether it’s true or not - is a strange one for Everton to be linked with. he’s probably smaller than johnson height wise.
Erik Dols
29   Posted 21/08/2007 at 10:00:55

jayharris, you expect Alves available for 6 to 8 millions. I live in the Netherlands, and know for a fact that Heerenveen, his current club, turned down several offers far over 10 million pounds. Middlesborough are reported to be talking with Heerenveen and having offered 13,5 million pounds.

Alves is a guarantee for at least 20 goals, probably more. If I was in charge AND if Everton had the money, he would be the first player in for any price lower than 20 millions. Boro will make a brilliant move if you ask me, he’ll bang in some 25 goals this season and leave for a big Spanish or Italian club for 30 million pounds or more this summer.

If Everton have the money, they should choose Alves over Yakubu anytime in terms of goal return. He’s not a team player though, and has been AWOL for some time last weeks. He could seriously upset the dressing room atmosphere. But I see this guy as the new Ronaldo, he’s goals goals goals. For someone to put in 25 a season it is easily forgiven if he’s selfish and all.

Last notes: Alves won’t be gone to Africa in january. But I don’t know if he would get a work permit, he’s got 3 or 4 caps and nothing more.

Like most Evertonians,I am frustrated that the expected deals for Fernandes and Yacubu have both(as yet)failed to be completed. However, what has given me great satisfaction is that the Club is now in a position to bid very substantial sums for players of their quality.Whether the transfers actually materialise now or have to be put on ice until the January window is really insignificant-what matters is that ’we were in there pitching’for them.Just another sign that Everton are once more competing with the ’ big boys’.

In response to Richard Dodd..

Bollox!

So what, we bid 10 million for Yakubu?

Sunderland paid 9 mill for a bleedin goalkeeper? Are they competing with the big boys.

When we bid 22 million we’re competing wih the big boys. 10 mill is average these days.

So you’re happy we’ve just bid for them Dickie? Not fussed if we get them or not? What a load of shite, why would you be happy to be bidding for players and not getting them? Makes you all warm inside does it? if that’s the case jump on eBay and bid until your hearts content, you might not win anything but darn it’ll make you feel real good.

I think its unbelievable. We blatently dont have enough money to compete. Either that or the board dont want to give it. I heard we were
after riqelme from villareal. spurs look like there getting him now. 12 mil for yak, cant believe it. Borough having us for a laugh. Vagner cheaper , Alves cheaper and both better players. we need to stop borough getting him. hes. watch him absolute quality. .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acgQCf5dyBA
