Yakubu and Relief

Before so many of us do that Evertonian thing we do ? you know, how if we fell onto a desert island of supermodels with loose morals, we'd complain about the food options ? why not take a moment to be glad that we've signed a quality striker that can potentially be a difference-maker.
I know that we'll hear that he cost us too much and that he scores, but doesn't score enough, etc. Of course we'll hear that from the same fans who would complain if we didn't buy Yak that we're cheap. Our little FC can't win with the fringe element of bastards who are never happy with anything. But today, I am happy.
I don't know for a fact that it will all work out. But I would venture to say that on paper and by all regular objective standards, our team is better at this moment than it was yesterday. Glad to see us spending and making an effort. I'm relieved until Saturday when we'll have a whole new set of things to worry about. But it will be a great couple days.

The guys a quality striker and exactly what we need, I guarantee you all those same people who are super-negative on here, will be singing his name in the months to come.
Proper player and a great signing.

Now lets see Manny and Yakubu unveiled tomorrow and talk about our team again and our prospects of Everton winning something. In the end, this summer has seen us add a quality left back in Baines, a versatile squad player in Jagielka, a midfield winger in Pienaar, the midfielder we all wanted in Manny Fernandes, and a striker with a proven goal scoring record in Yakubu. Before anyone says the Fernandes deal is not finalized, Moyes has already spoken about how he will fit into the team and provide that extra bit that we need in the center of the midfield. It just looks like we are waiting for the paperwork to clear. Not too bad, considering we also resigned Arteta and Cahill to long term extensions. Oh yeah, and another keeper, forgot about that one. So can anyone tell me that this summer is not a success.

Y akubu is a quality player and has been a proven success through all his Premiership career, scored goals at the clubs he’s been at and will form a frightening partnership with AJ..Im excited, very excited at the prospect of having him in our team..I remember the month we signed James Beattie in January 2005..There was talk that we may get Yakubu instead..We didnt and the same night we played at home to Portsmouth where Yakubu was then playing..We won 2-1 but Yakubu scored a cracker of a goal at the Gladys Street end and I remember thinking to myself ’maybe we should have got him and not Beattie’. As it worked out we probably should have done but times vary in football and managers ideas and views change..That was then..This is now and what we will have if both the Yakubu and Fernandes deals are successful ( medical/wage terms ect) is a team capable of reaching limits we havent done for a long time..We can,for a change give the opposition something to worry about instead of it being the other way round as has been the case for too long now..Good luck

If and when these two players are added to our team, I don’t think there would be any excuse for early exits from the Cup competitions. We should be competitive in them with the team I hope we have assembled now.

Would be a case of alls well that ends well but I still think we squandered the opportunity to get 3 points against Reading due to conservative line up/formation/tactics. We should be top of the table now. I’ll bet ya a pound to a pinch of dog shit that Blue Bill will appear all smiles and luvvy sound bites at a lengthy press conference to announce the arrival of both players. Lets hope Moyes goes progressive against Blackburn and Yak and Manny aren’t on the bloody bench. Exciting times for Evertonians with these kind of signings. We have the potential to go places with this kind of quality

I wouldn’t worry about Yak being on the bench given our injury problems this week !!

Just heard Yakubus missus has told him to turn down the move because of the shopping. After touring the Kirkby Shopping Mall she said the shopping is crap.

Do Man U ask where Giggs and Park and Ronaldo are going to fit into the team when they signed Nani and Anderson? Or where Carrick and Scholes will fit in? If Cahill’s playing well he will be on the pitch, if not someone who is playing better will be on the pitch. It’s a good problem to have.

The Boro fans do not rate Yakubu at all, check the message boards on "comeonyouboro.com" . They say he is lazy, can’t head it to save his life. 11+mil is to much for him, I get the feeling he is gonna score 12 a year for us if he doesn’t take the penalties.

I just read on a pompey borad and they think the same, comments like "Johnson better get ready because any strike partner of him is gonna have to run" He’s lazy.

I reckon The Yak will be great for us but I still think we need some extra firepower, considering that we’ll be losing him and maybe Anichebe to the African Nations Cup. Also, with UEFA around the corner, someone like Ezquerro from Barcelona (mentioned a couple of weeks ago) will be a useful signing on a free.

Just for the record, Rob, what did you think when we signed Beattie? Personally, I like the idea of Yakubu as his scoring has been fairly consistent but I was never keen on Beattie. I felt his record was a lot of goals in a few games, something like 10 in 8, and little or nothing for the rest of the season.

He has probably played shit in their last two games becasue he has given up on them but is that the kind of player we want? I'm a bit worried about this transfer.
