Lescott for England?
Comments (21)
Having just watched the latest England friendly, can somebody tell me why Lescott hasn't recieved a call up as yet? It can't be to do with the lack of Premier League experience seeing as Ricahrds and Shorley started the game. I mean to say...Wes Brown? Surely it is only a matter of time before he makes it to the squad as cover for Terry and Ferdinand at least?

I’m taking a pay cut to come to Everton, but the Chairman has promised me a Dockside penthouse in Kirkby if I sign...he said it was the Deal of the Century. He even got his Estate Agent to ring me and confirm it. Such a fine fellow!

Take out the papers and the trash
Or you don’t get no spendin’ cash
If you don’t scrub that kitchen floor
You ain’t gonna rock and roll no more
Yakety yak (don’t talk back)
Just finish cleanin’ up your room
Let’s see that dust fly with that broom (Learn about allergies and dust!
Get all that garbage out of sight (Learn about turning garbage into good!
Or you don’t go out Friday night
Yakety yak (don’t talk back)
You just put on your coat and hat
And walk yourself to the laundromat
And when you finish doin’ that
Bring in the dog and put out the cat
Yakety yak (don’t talk back)
Don’t you give me no dirty looks
Your father’s hip; he knows what cooks
Just tell your hoodlum friend outside
You ain’t got time to take a ride
Yakety yak (don’t talk back)
Yakety yak, yakety yak
Yakety yak, yakety yak
Yakety yak, yakety yak
FADE
Yakety yak, yakety yak

He’s ok at moving into attacking positions, but his positional play in defence is awful, his passing predictable, and his tackling is lightweight.
While I don’t agree with it, I always thought Mclaren picked players on the basis of their reputation and teams league position (how else can Wes Brown be explained). Yet despite Everton finishing higher Lescott still doesn’t get a look in.
McLaren should be picking players on the basis of quality. Again, Lescott is the better option. He is a better left back, and he isnt even a left back by nature. And with a shortage of defenders and only the paceless Terry and atrociously overated Ferdinand surely picking a versatile and quality player is only logical. Oh yeah, I forgot were talking about McLaren here. A man who believed it was a logical evolution to drop Beckham because he was past it and wanted a fresh approach, yet kept in other ’has-beens’ like Owen and Gary Neville.
I rarely find myself agreeing with Paul Merson, but if he, a man who played with Adams and Keown, rates Lescott as a defender then why McLaren doesnt I can only imagine.
For further reading on Steve McLaren, see Massimo Maccarone, he sums the guy up perfectly.
