Internationals

Is it just me being selfish about the blues but in my opinion am quite happy the likes of Lescott and Arteta dont get picked for the countries. This just creates further problems like injury and more worrying the so called bigger clubs from Europe being alerted to amazing talent both of these players have.

I believe Mclaren has lost the plot with his team selections. No way is Beckham worth his place these days.Just about fit enough to play for the Galaxy recently he has to travel the ocean to play in a friendly and for 2 or 3 decent crosses that even Leon Osman could have done. What a waste!

I think the main worry is that with players mainly being picked for international sides on reputation rather than form, that this will make the likes of Lescott and Arteta want to move to a more media friendly club i. the top 4! Spain have a little more of an excuse as they have Xavi,Iniesta,Alonso and the likes to pick from but England? Wes fucking Brown???

Just like most the England players, I don’t care about internationals.
Don’t give a dam, keep our players away...
Unfortunately players think CL matches are more important, maybe they’re right, and that England is a boost to their profile.
World Cup’s mean little nowadays, but hey, football sold its soul!!

’World Cup?s mean little nowadays’

Nick, are you serious? I agree that the champions league is a big deal to players and fans alike, but to say the world cup means little is rubbish mate. The country/world comes to a standstill and every man, woman & child gets well into it from what I can see. Not sure what planet you’ve been watching recent ones from.

Ok, what was the headlines when Italy won last year? Zidans headbutt. Because who cares who won when there’s a headline to be made on a ’personality’.
Italy played England soon after, and did the World Champions cause a stir by being here? No.
When teams are knackered out by the time they get to the world cup, players who’d rather be in champions league, watched by fans who are employed by the sponsors, played in mickey mouse nations likes the states, Japan and Korea, South Africa in 3 years... then it loses its appeal.
It’s still a big deal for smaller nations, and maybe my view of football as a whole selling out makes me a little blinkered to every one elses opinion, but the last great world cup was in 1990. Since then its a corporate jolly.

Hey Nick watch the mickey mouse South African comment. We have half the worlds resources down here, GDP of over 50% of Africa in total and half the effing Zim nation as refugees. Man descended from our country and one of them is Pienaar who happens to play for our team. At 20 Rand to a pound by the time 2010 comes around you’ll be here watching AJ and Lescott.

Hey Mark,

Wasn’t slating SA the country. Only it’s footballing heritage/ right to host the world cup.

It’s not a traditional power house of football or football support, and a world cup would suffer for it... as in the States and Japan/ Korea.
Yes there will be big crowds, and passioned support, but... well... bit like asking the States to hold the Rugby World Cup.

No offence, love your biltong ;)
