TV In Singapore

Comments (13)

Response to Mark Cassin's listing (so ignore if you don't live in Singapore!)

With the new TV deal that we've all heard so much about, overseas rights were sold for GBP 625m. ESPN / Star Sports (ESS) were the incumbent, but were outbid by both SingTel and StarHub. StarHub in my opinion had no beef with ESS - they afterall are the cable channel that carries them in Singapore - but their fear was SingTel would outbid them, that's why we have to pay $15 more from October. But it's still cheap compared to Sky.

Channel 27 is the new Football Channel. It's shit. They may have Peter Reid as a pundit, but they've also got Carlton Palmer, who I admit talks a better game than he played.

But Chs 21 and 22 also show live games, and if you like your Scottish footy, tune in to Goal and Goal+ on 107, 108.

Now we have up to 3 live games concurrently, up from 2. My only remaining beef is on the opening weekend, 8 out of the 10 fixtures on Saturday and Sunday were shown live.

Us against Wigan was one of the 2 that wasn't (Derby v Pompey the other). Some things never change.

Know how you feel Matt! We have been struggling for decent coverage in Hong Kong for a number of years now. Cable TV have had the rights for a while up until this year. We only had the choice of 2 games each sat..and invarilby in was never Everton. We never got to see John Dykes and Co that we used to watch 4 or 5 years ago, as you have. Although we still dont see JD and any sort of pre-match build up in english, the rights have been bought by PCCW NOW TV and from this season they have so many channels that every game is live! So Ive been watching the Toffees every week! So cant complain. Just to rub it in...!

cross the causeway - subscribe to Astro on a Singapore credit card - take dish and decoder back across the causeway in your car - fix, and point at the sky

problem solved

Matt, you are absolutely right about some things never change. Have you also notice that during the highlights show, the one where they show the match action and goals scored that week, a huge chunk of airtime is given to the ’big 4’. The ’pundits’ will be taking about the ’big 4’ team selection, squad rotation, latest injury and more even on weekends/days they are not playing! Oh, and you got to love the bits when they go, well, err, here’s some other goals from the rest of the week’s games. And everything pass by in a flash.

Same problem in Thailand, only UBC showing the Premiership as the response now from cable TV is that they do not have copyright (their description) to show live games anymore, this has met with a host of complaints by expats/bar owners who used to rely on increased custom while the games were showing. There has since been a comment by local cable TV that the problem will be solved soon, but this is Thailand so i am not holding my breath

Channel 27 is broadcasting Manure Tv, Chelski Tv and Barca Tv. Any hopes of Everton Tv to be shown in the future?
And Wilson, you are spot on!!!! The pundits in ESS show ’unconditional’ biasness to the ’top 4’ and add Spurs+Newcastle. But a few brief lines on Everton. I have been observing this for the past 3 weeks. In the newly revamped Here We Go, which is called Football Forecast or something...I can’t remember..they pointed out tactical mistakes, lineups, casualty list, opponents and predictions of the ’top 4’. Then they clearly said, "these are the predictions for the matches that we weren’table to show you" And those would be the remainder 6 matches which would not include the ’top 4’. Only if Everton plays the ’top 4’ would there be a bit more coverage. This is utter biasness.

Here in Thailand I have watched the Tottenham game as well as the reading game and also the Blackburn game will be on this Sat. Don’t get much better than that now does it and I only pay 5quid a month for cable TV. I think they blag the coverage somehow.

If u r happy to watch from your PC or laptop, check out TVU (http://www.tvunetworks.com). Star Sports channel on TVU are showing the Blackburn game on Sat night / Sun morning at 02:00 (Sydney time). On Tues at 17:00 Sydney time there is a 1 hour highlights program.
The quality is pretty good - especially since its free!

greetings all you evertonians in singapore!

ironically, the opening game they didn’t show on tv here involved the current third and fourth teams in the table...

i’ve stopped tuning into espn after the first week, much as i like listening to john dykes and paul masefield or watching shabby singh talk shite.
those guys are really struggling to carry the show without showing the match footage in their analysis.

reidy on channel 27 fares as well as steve mcmahon on espn. out-of-job managers masquerading as pundits... bloody dry.
whats-his-name who hosts the channel 27 show comes across as a producer thrust into the limelight... painful to watch. owned by dubai oil money i hear, they should break the bank for Richard Keys my fave man.

yak to make his debut and score on sat,
its 2-1 over blackburn!!!

Paul, what cable TV service do you use? I don’t get the footy on mine but do on True/UBC.

And if you can get Supersports they have different matches than True/UBC, like the Wigan match first day of the season.

Also plenty of games can be accessed on your PC using sopcast, small download, just google it. Loads of links posted on a site called freefootball.org - just register for free and logon to the forums to find links (posted privately cos its not allowed publically) I’ve seen alot of games this way and theres plenty of great feeds to watch.
