Good times...bad times

It is with heavy heart that I accept we have voted yes to the move to Kirby. I know it isn't a million miles away but most have missed the symbolism behind such a move. It will likely have consequences in terms of support in later years but let's wait and see. I have never believed that Kenwright really loved the club and I think he has pioneered this move to help uincrease his own wealth - I bet he sells up within 2 years!

I think we all need to accept that Kirby is going to happen and that no amount of moaning or campaigning is going to change the result.

For me, I believe that the club's desperation to move has fractured into two sets of supporters:

1)Those of us who have seen some great football in the seventies and most of the eighties, understanding the saying Nil Satis Nisis Optimum and disbelieving Wyness and Kenwright on previous form.

2) The younger supporters who have been unlucky and not seen these great times and honestly believe that the likes of Atrtetea and Aj are amongst the best ever seen in a blue shirt.

I am glad that I have witnessed great times in Goodison and sadly feel that this will seal our fate as perceived number two club in the city. We are now going to be residing in a town that has a population less than half of that of Birkenhead!

Despite all of this - I still love Everton Football Club. It is the people running the club I dislike.

Well said Russ, you are right about the different groups of supporters, it seems the older generation have far higher standards than the younger groups. This, not helped, by the prolonged period of winning nothing under Kenwright.

You have voted yes and said goodbye to the No 1 team in liverpool we are no longer any more than what tranmere represent to the city fuck all.

Russ, I agree with most of what you say but I do think Kenwright loves the club, sadly this doesn’t mean he can run the club!! You may be right about the two years though...
Julian

I don’t buy your idea that Kenwright doesn’t really love the club.

He can’t really win though. He’s ben critisised for years for not getting investment in.

Now there is speculation that once we have a new ground investors might be interested in buying the club - and then Kenwright get’s stick becuase he might make a profit on his shares!

PS can we please all learn how to spell Kirkby?
Julian

Also, the Tranmere/Birkenhead comparison isn’t really a fair one.

There’s a real geographical boundary between Birkenhead and Liverpool, which has always been there not an imaginary political line which has only existed since 1972 (and which may be changed again in future).

Julian, is the M57 not a real boundary then? Why is a river more of a boundary than a motorway? Birkenhead is closer.

Enjoy parading your trophies around kirkby village. Well actually don’t, you will never win anything again. Everton as we know it is dead. Kirkby FC will takes its place.

What blinkered, rose-tinted rot.

I watched the Blues from a very young age, from the late sixties onwards, and your "great football in the seventies and most of the eighties" just doesn’t stack up in my personal recollection.

We had a towering, majestic side in the early seventies which was allowed to break up and was never really replaced. My memories of the seventies were mostly of Mick Lyons and Bob Latchford, who, while great servants, never played in a dominating league winning team.

In fact from about 1973-84 we were mostly, frankly, dire, despite being a big club in a much more level playing field.

We had a great side from 1984-87 before that too was allowed to break up too soon (and if you ask me Dr David Marsh, followed on his heels by Peter Johnson, are the real villains of our current situation - their actions or rather inactions in the case of Marsh have been far-reaching for the club). For reasons well documented by the European ban, our club was hit hardest of all, and we missed the big boys boat at the worst possible time. Since then the playing field has no longer been level.

"Nil satis" is an ideal to aspire to, and a good one, but we are now clawing back some status from a 15 year cycle. Those of you who think we should and can win the premiership at the present time are frankly deluded. The criteria for that are not just good management but plenty of cash. We have to be able to generate more.

I agree that this vote split supporters. However your assumption that those who sawa the 70’s 80’s etc voted one way and those who have only seen recent times is a leap to far for me.

I take it if you can walk across water?. Boundaries like this are natural not man made.Birkenhead is closer to the Dock road but it is not closer to Goodison Road.

Enjoy parading your trophies around kirkby village. Well actually don?t, you will never win anything again. Everton as we know it is dead. Kirkby FC will takes its place.

Kirkby village where’s that then?. Everton as YOU know it is dead, but Everton itself is still very much alive.

What a load of twaddle the main post is; I’m in my mid 30’s and a blue all my life. I know and love the club as much as anyone of any age, and your view is blinkered, not to mention offensive. This isn’t about who knows best or who saw the best players in blue; its about what’s best for the future. The yes vote has shown that most people are forward thinking and not clinging in vain to past glories. I don’t give a fuck what the shite think, they already think the city is there’s anyway. Move on, new chapter. The futures bright.

Well its done, as we all really knew it would be.
Kenwright is an absolute disgrace as a chairman of a football club, AND as chairman of Everton he should hang his head in shame.
Not because he will move us to Kirkby but the way he has been invisable during this epic time which will shape the future of the club.If he makes a fortune I couldn’t care less if he makes a fortune and Everton football club suffer he will have an awful lot to answer to..
So lets see some fucking plans to make the whole football world stand up !!!

Tony Miller, Kirkby Village is the town centre is known as. Same as Bootle Village, and Huyton village. People still refer to going into Liverpool City Centre as going into town. Just old fashoined phrases that have stuck.

You can get to Birkenhead in five minutes from Liverpool, via the tunnel. I frequently drove into Hamilton Square for work.

Your right that Everton as I know it is dead. I cannot believe you do not feel the same way.

Can we please give it a rest regarding "EFC will lose their identity in agreeing to move to kirkby", its getting to the point of being sad. There are greater and more important things going on in the world other than moving 5 or so miles down the road to an area that is just outside city boundaries!

How will the move affect our fanbase? That is a ridiclously stupid question, if we currently get a following from abroad then I am sure we will still get fans from the "city boundaries". The Kirkby move is essential now as made clear by the board! So what if tesco will make a mint out of the development! Did you expect them to lose dosh? No Chance! We will make money on it and I know I will have greater satisfaction in going the game to a ground with facilities that are worth paying £35 to £40 a ticket for! Goodison of late is tired and prettty much passed it! the area is tired and a fresh impetus will do us all good.

We will be, though, the number one Club there!

Steve Ferns. The thing is Everton will never die in my eyes no mattter where they are or in fact what league they are in although they have only been in one during my spell on earth..

Thats just the way I feel as I have said before I know others don’t feel the same. I do not hate or castigate them for feeling different as that’s life.

Steve Ferns

Tony, I have never castigated anyone on here. I have frequently requested no voters curb aggresive posts.

I don’t hate you for airing your views. You have come to your own opinions. I believe you are wrong, but do not think that we should suddenly turn tale and accept it. Liverpudlians know how to protest and protest we shall. There is plenty more fight left in this city. We’ll even recruit the kopites’ help if that whats it takes for this great city to retain two top clubs.

Steve F.
Never said you have but others have on both sides and this in my eye’s is wrong.
It has been unfortunate that some resort to abuse particularly when there has been good debate on both sides.
I have no problems with the no voters carrying on with the fight. This is providing it is done in the correct way as otherwise more damage will be caused. This vote caused a rift that will take time to heal if in fact it does.
However the rift can turn into a chasm if protest go to far we are all Evertonians, we may not allways agrea not just on this issue, but players formations etc. That is one of the things I enjoy a good debate different opinions, life would be boring otherwise. I do stress however I enjoy a GOOD debate not one were threats and abuse are thrown at people you until recently shared a common goal with.

Again I am not targeting this at you but there are others who have raised their heads from behind computer screens who could cause problems if they acted the same in the real world rather than the virtual world.

Good luck with your protests I am sure you will keep it clean.

Mike without wishing to sound pedantic, the move to Kirkby will affect the fan base through future generations. That was my main reason for voting NO and the fact that all the commercial reasons cited by the board are complete bollox.
We have been mismanaged commercially for years and it wont change until the board we have are replaced. Your comments regarding the identity issue becoming sad, well mate I can assure you its going to get a lot sadder, cue every visiting teams fans from here on in.They will remind you of the loss of our identity at every game. Still sticks and stones, blah blah blah.

Sorry to all residents of Kirkby - I will now have plenty of time to learn how to spell it.

Regarding the rose tintee view - yes it is in some respect but to say tfrom 74 onwards was Lyons and Latchford is wrong. Gordon Lee and Billy Bingham came painfully close to producing top sides. Their were other very good players who played for the blues: Duncan Mac, Mark Higgins, Billy Wright, Martin Dobson, Colin Todd and Davie Thomas to name but a few...

Certainly some of the football was exquisite. I really can’t see any of todays side apart from Arteta getting into those teams. We usually scored wide marging wins several times a year.

I accept the Kirkby vote but still say that Goodison and the City of Liverpool played a large part in it. I am from Cheshire and can still see the need to be tied culturally and financially to the City (ps - my Dad’s side are from Liverpool, Dingle area so I am only half a woolyback :))
