Would I be happy if I were Kenwright?

Comments (4)

Firstly let me say that I do not suspect Kenwright of any ulterior motives — I believe he is doing what fellow Evertonians often accuse him of not doing — i.e. acting like a business man and putting head before heart.

Secondly, I wil admit that I voted "yes" after many weeks of agonising but I can't say I'm at all happy with the result. I did so because I could see my beloved club getting left behind.

So I will not be sitting smugly at the Park End tomorrow. Instead I'll be worried about the consequence of my vote and feeling pretty shitty for the young lad who lost his life this week.

However, when the match starts my will to win instinct will take over and I'll be supporting the Blues — which I'll do in Kirkby — even if I'm not happy about it.

Do you think Kenwright will be any different? My guess is that he won't be happy with the outcome and the sizeable minority, together with the no-voters may yet lead him to pursue other options.

Ray, I voted Yes, like yourself for similar reasons. Unlike you though, I feel very positive about the relocation should it go ahead. But there are many hurdles to overcome, and if I was a No voter I would not be too despondent just yet as the Kings dock was voted for by a massive majority (90% plus)and that was sunk by broken promises and LCC in-fighting. There will be a lot of opposition and delaying tactics forcing the costs up, so it is far from just a "vote and we will go" scenario.
Also, I think BK has taken a lot of unfair flak regarding this. He stuck his neck out in insisting that Everton supporters ultimately had the decision, against the opposition and ridicule of his fellow chairmen etc., but stuck to his principles.
With regards to your last point, I think we have looked at other options, but there just isn’t the finances or investment to consider going it alone.
Isnt it strange how quiet the LCC have been since the result became known?

Living 17,000 Kms away, I haven’t felt entitled to comment on the stadium debate. Now that the vote is over, I’d like to say that I admire people like you (Ray & Karl). It was obviously painful to vote for a move out of Goodison and the city area, assuming it all comes to fruition, but you did it and so did many other EFC supporters. I just hope, now that the majority have spoken that others (KEIOC etc) will not make the next stage even harder. Fair enough if they maintain a critical eye on developments but talk of "carrying on the fight" and stirring up the locals in Kirkby is (IMHO) way out of line. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that it is traitorous (ie to deliberately put obstacles in the way of our own club progressing). I’m sure there will be ups & downs with a project of this size but one good thing we have on our side is that Tesco & Knowsley council want it to work and therefore want us to be successful too. Lets hope some of our own supporters don’t drag the whole thing down.

Yes, Wes, totally agree. Main headline on the P302 BBC teletext service this morning was about David f’in Beckham and his transatlantic capers. Now that is news isn’t it?
