I just sat there thinking how ineffective Johnson is and we're desperately short up front because McFadden is never going to score... McFadden scores 1 minute later!

Seriously though, Yakubu is needed desperately plus potentially another striker. Some great ball players in the team now but I don't see many goals coming unless something changes. I really want McFadden to do well because I think his heart is in it, I'm just not convinced he has the class to cut it.

He's getting a lot better... that was a quite superb finish.

Great finish from Faddy tonight. I am beginning to wonder what has happened to that pace Johnson had last season, and in previous seasons though??!!. Let?s hope the Yak can give him the support and kick up the backside he needs.

So where does that leave Andy Johnson ??

We desperately, needed and need presence up front, and hopefully Yakubu will provide it.

For me McFadden is very stop start. I lost count of the amount of times he recieved the ball with his back to goal, attempted to swivel his marker(mostly unsuccessfuly)only to be outmuscled. But then he has flashes of brilliance. He needs more consistency to his game. But you can?t doubt one thing- he has a cracking shot. Not just in power but in postioning himself and guiding the ball. On the occasions he scores, his strikes are always crisp and clean(think Man U a couple of seasons ago and Charlton), unlike our friend Mr Johnson.

Kris, I echo your sentiments on Johnson. I don?t know if he?s carrying an injury but he?s lost at least a yard of speed. He?s got a fantastic work rate but he?s coming back too much to help the midfield. He should ideally be on the shoulder of the last defender.

It has never been so evident as tonight why Moyes has been looking to Yakubu and that type of player. AJ desperately needs some help and an outlet when he has the ball, as good as Faddy's finish was, he gives the ball away so often.

On the bright side I saw flashes of how Jags is going to be a crowd favorite, forget that that chance on goal where the shot went wide, on another day when settled he will put that away, baines looked good also, but for me I have to say that Howard was superb when he was called into action. As for the goal, well the rebound was more fortunate to the away side then last week when AJ had a similiar situation at Reading. Blackburn are going to work all teams hard this season, and you fixed-odds pundits could do worse than back them at home for a win and a draw away from home.

1. How can Moyes moan to McClarren that Lescott should be in the England squad claiming hes been Evertons best player and then dropping him for Stubbs or Yobo???

2. What is Moyes waiting for to drop Hibbert??? he is appsolutley pisss poor.

Other than that i think jagielka had a great game an should defo start against Bolton. Need manny to help arteta in da midfield yakubu 2 help aj upfront who again doesnt show much quality, yes he works hard but i cud work hard and would work hard as would most Evertonians for nothink and hes picking up 40k at the end off the week

Moyes didn't do his homework. Blackburn a big physical team and Moyes plays the wrong team and the wrong tactic. Hibbert is just not up to it and neither is Osman - conspicuous by his non-involvement for the most part. How on earth can he leave a younger, quicker Lescott out in favour of Stubbs? I agree with Dan from New York that McFadden battles hard but really doesn't have it despite the odd goal and Nevile went to pieces after Blackburn scored. Once again the inane high balls to Johnson against a giant centre back has me puzzled yet again.

Faddy?????
where do you start, what a finish, and his chip last week ? bordered on genius ! ! ! could have claimed second goal of season in consecutive years if that dropped in

so why dont we love him ?

I?m on me jolly?s so I missed me first game for a long time today,
watched on Satanta but even watching the game that way it was obvious the fans were upset with Jimmy

DM should gaurentee him a game for a period of time, if he falls short, move him on
I think we all feel theres a player in there somewhere
lets sort this now

You cant blame Johnson for getting outpace by Samba. Samba is about 6ft 5 and is very very quick. For me both teams where shite. Bentley and Pedersen where crap as where Arteta and Osman.

I hope Jagielka and Fernandes start next week for Carsley and Hibbert with Neville moving to right back. Jagielka impressed me with his pace, agression and tackling.

For me Anichebe changed the game. Why boot a long ball up to AJ against 6ft 5 Samba? That is what Vic does best come of the bench and change games.

Although it was atrocious I will give them a few games before I start ripping into them. Hopefully we can get Manny and The Yak in and have a settled squad.

I actually thought Mc Fadden was one of our better players today. Totally puzzled as to why the crowd were so quick to get on his back when he did make a mistake. Contrast his performance with that of Osman who was totally anonymous. Can only assume it’s because he’s a local lad, my god he was piss poor. Baines looks a tremendous acquisition and Jagielka also impressed. Hibbert I’m afraid goes from bad to worse. However, my greatest criticism has to be Moyes selection of Stubbs ahead of Lescott. No doubt there are those who will seek to defend his decision,if there were mitigating circumstances then I take it back but for me it defied any kind of logic. Stubbs frankly was an embarrassment and the decision to play him in place of Lescott almost certainly cost us a victory. Once again we had no width and opted for the long ball approach. Will he ever learn? I doubt it.

Ossie a local lad? He is from Skem is he not. I thought Mcfadden did alright considering the awful service.

Jagielka was immense and Baines was also brilliant. He will give us some much needed width with his overlapping from the left hand side. I really cant wait to get Fernandes back and hopfully he can be beside Jagielka in the middle of the park.

Dave Flint totally agree, Faddy has a talent we rarely see and the only way he will learn to make the most of it is by playing against proper opposition.

Gerry - doesn’t it say something about the lad that he will keep going for the ball despite the fact that the fans boo every mistake he makes. A couple of years ago Faddy would have gone AWOL, yesterday he kept going. Next year he’ll be mentioned in the same breath as Arteta

Steve, I agree entirely with your assessment. I thought Mc Fadden was the spark for us in the Reading game and I would have much preferred to see him start in that game. In these recent games his touch and awareness has been uncannily similar to that of Arteta. I think its time Moyes showed some faith in the lad. As for yesterday’s game even the commentators expressed their surprise at the crowd’s reaction acknowledging the difficulties he was facing. When he did have possession in the middle of the park players around him were not looking for the ball most notably Osman who’d gone AWOL. Once again he showed great poise in his execution of the goal. His overall contribution together with the efforts of some of the new faces was one of the few positives to take from the game.

Connor, I agree with you about Jagielka-he was simply superb yesterday. My MotM closely followed by Baines.
For me these two were one of the biggest positives of yesterday. Jagielka, Frankly (assisted by Howard) kept us in the game.
He wrestled control of the crucial midfield area back from the pugnacious Savage and impressive Dunn with his sheer determination. He distrubution was fantastic, if not Carrickesque.Ok, maybe I?m going a little too far, he didn?t pull out a defence splitting 50 yard pass but he was always recieving the ball from the back-notably from Howards short throws, and feeding it to our more technically gifted player(s), Arteta. I don?t think he made a bad pass and was impressed by the fact that he resisted the temptation to lump the ball forward when no shorter passing alternatives were available. You could see he wanted to grab his oppurtunity of breaking into the 1st team.

He should have capped his performance with a goal from that headed oppurtunity. Must start against Bolton
