The one thing that stood out for me yesterday was the lack of creativity. It's ok to talk about buying Yakubu, but how is Moyes going to use him? He plays hoofball with two tiny strikers so you can see it coming when he gets a big fella. I think we have the players to play decent football, certainly no worse than Blackburn's, but they made us look third-rate at times. Hughes has them passing and moving the ball quickly to wide areas, we had no answer to it yesterday and it was painfull to watch. Expect no different when Yakubu arrives because he is exactly what Moyes is looking for. A big man to hoof the ball up to.

Well, paying extra to get Setanta was all worthwhile. What a treat it was to watch men paid to play football but who don?t want the ball, punting it at a small bald quite fast man being dealt with easily by a huge faster bloke. Are we Sunday League?

I mean kids in a park would have the sense to try to play to feet in those circumstances. It does seem AJ is half a yard slower then before and McFadden got caught in possession far too often, but I do think the strikers failings are minor compared to the midfields. We all know carsley and neville playing together in the middle is a disaster. Both are good pro's, both are an asset to the team, but not as our central midfield pair it?s pretty embarrassing. Id have Arteta in the middle play through him, stick peinaar out wide, bench hibbert and stick Neville back at right back.

Regardless of who we pay up front they need service and today AJ and McFadden were feeding on scraps and even the goal was a half chance and relied on excellent movement and a gutsy finish under a lot of pressure for the much maligned McFadden. Give the guy a break he never hid tried to get things going, he gave the ball away I agree, but not as often as those playing behind him who were passing to Samba constantly. I?d rather have a guy in our team losing the ball because he?s trying to beat a man, than loose the ball by hoofing it.

The Yak must be thrilled at the prospect of running around after long balls, and being booed when he looses the ball as the midfield hide instead of offering him an option.

Performances so far this season have been poor, good, poor and poor. A case of the usual 'Moyes Progress'. If Yakubu and Fernandes sign this week all we need is the commanding centre midfield player and good wide man. Exactly what we needed when Moyes arrived over 5 years ago...
