Mr Average

Comments (13)

There should be two Tonys kicked off the team this week: Tony Marsh and Tony Hibbert. Hibbert deserves it more than me though.

What can you say about yesterday other than What the Fuck is going on? If this is progress then I don't have a clue about football.

As if the team selection wasn't bad enough, looking at all the midgets in Blue lining up against the six-footers had me fearing the worst before we even kicked a ball. "Men against" boys, I called. Watching Everton players nudged and knocked off the ball so easily is embarrassing. We need more beef.

To be honest two things cast a huge shadow across yesterdays game. Firstly the young lad Rhys Jones losing his life in such a senseless way put a lot of things in to perspective for me.

Secondly, a club that's lost its soul made it hard for me to even bother with it. The football side of things yesterday seemed not to matter regardless of which team won or lost. There was something missing. An impending feeling of doom hung over the place and many of us still fear this Kirkby move. We now have 7 points from a possible 12 and with a bit more character from the players and more imporantly the manager we should of had all 12. It's now turned out to be a very average start to the season with a very average man at the helm. Reading got thumped yesterday at crappy Bolton so it just shows you how good they really are.

Granted Moyes is a good organiser who picks up some decent players on the cheap but he sure isn't a good football coach. When was the last time we saw an Everton side or player do something new and exciting during a game? It's the same old thing week-in, week-out, season after season. I know he will not get sacked or leave so I will not even mention him going but the man in charge of Blackburn would be an ideal replacement if Moyes ever did go.

I like everything about Hughes and his team. Solid hard working and skillfull and not much money spent either. Everything the Moyes brigade tell us Davey has in his locker. Well, if this is Everton at its best there are going to be some empty seats out in the Stadio Del Knowsley in 3 years time. Filling that place up with 55,000? I don't think so on this evidence.

I know the Moyes minions will go crazy at me having a pop at thier beloved Davey but the facts are there for all to see out on the pitch. Poor team selection, poor tactics, zero entertainment value and a team and manager that cave in much too often for my liking. All of these issues have been labelled at Moyes before and it's still the same now. Progress, you call it; I say it's just an average side with an average manager... Bring in Mark Hughes!

a lot of good points however one I would disagree with would br Mark Hughes as manager. He is of the same mould as Moyes looking at the way his team played the other day.

In addition who would in their right minds want to manage us with a board that is riddled with rank incompetence.

Well I had a couple of weeks dreaming about Manny in the team. Thanks again for F all Billy.

Welcome back Tony, I like Mark Hughes’ teams work rate but he has prolonged the playing life of Lily Savage which he should be strung up for.

Good points Tony.
Blackburn did the simple things well. Pass the ball quickly out of defence and into wide areas, which immediately put us on the back foot.
Their midfield pushed out in support and their defence was rock solid and well organised.
Us? We defend to deep, hoof the ball up and get no-one up in support.
Not exactly rocket science is it?

’An impending feeling of doom hung over the place’ - You must have been at a different match to me, I found many ’no’ voters of the mind that it’s now ’Time to move on’ and join the majority ’yes’ vote in trying to help make Kirkby work for us.

For the second time !
Blackburn solid, hard working, powerful team, with a manager I would love to see at Goodison.
Keep on truckin Tony

Tony

As ever Tony on the fence, but it was great to see you are still around, disagree with your Moyes bashing though mate, the words purse, sow, silk and ear spring to mind, if he had been given as much money as the rest, he could be judge accordingly, however he will finish above Mark Huges . . . again

"A club thats lost it soul" not yet, but, your half right, there can be no doubt there is an uneasy feeling around the place as the powers that be seem hell bent on entering their faustian deal

33 thou, after such a promising start, ok we have 3,000 obstructed views but we couldnt even sell the good seats. the stay aways said the would stay away, and the spectre of empty seats in all parts of the ground can only loom that bit larger with performances like yesterdays

David Wilson.Money is one thing but it costs nothing to keep the ball on the deck mate.A basic quality most footballers should possess so why is it our team cant manage it?

Its turned out to be a very average season? Fuck Tony we are only 4 games in, we have no idea what sort of season we are in for.

Could go either way at this stage.

I hope no other supporters are ready to give up on the season so easily. I certainly hope Moyes and the players have more fight then to just accept average after four games.

Once again you have jumped the gun, just like when you said Lescott was the new Kroldrup and just like last season when you continually boasted the wheels were sure to fall off.

If you really want to give up after four games and feel the club has no soul then I ask you one simple question...

Do you really have nothing better to do then waste your time ’supporting’ and writing about a club you clearly have little passion for?

Dutch I said its been an average START to the season Read it and let it sink in.Why are you again crediting me with things I have not said.Last season when Moyes paid nearly £6 million for Lescott after weeks of haggelling he then failed to pick him for the first few games of the season<>I asked the Question< whats going on with Moyes and not playing this player is he another Koldrup.I was having a go at Moyes and not the player.Big difference from what you claim I said. Please dont make shit up thanks

Dutch, I sat with a few of my mates Saturday after wiping many a tear from our eyes, the one way Everton could have beaten Blackburn was to play controlled football, on the deck. In fact I would go as far as to say it was the only way we could have won. We were a far nimbler side than them and could not compete in the physical stakes .
Moyes has set us up that way and we are capable of playing that way, so whats with the big hoof ?
Who is giving up on the season ?
Tony is asking questions and he is right to do so.
Why are you questioning his passion ?
Everton are the most romantic club in the world Dutch and we attract all sorts.
Long may it remain the case

Wow, was it because of the full moon or something? I found myself in agreement with Mr. Marsh on our ridiculously bad playing style and plea for a new manager: Yes, bring in Mark Hughes!

Only if that would happen in this new Millenium...If I were Hughes, why on earth would I consider coming to Goodison and not any one of Big 4?!

Tony I’m as sick of watching the same dour percentage game as you, but look at the facts mate,
Hibbert, Carsley , neville ? and do you really have confidence on Big Joey playing his way ourra trouble given his concentration lapses ?

Take Artetta Joles and Leo - when he’s had his readybreak - out of the equation, and the team doesnt have too many artist, you need money to buy them

DM knows if he opens up and plays areally expansive game most teams would batter us - remember Highbury 2-3 years ago, I know it cost nothing to get the ball on the deck, but weekly hammerings cost a lot more
I do see faint glimpses of improvement, liked our new left back today

Dutch, every club in the land would want 30,000 supporters like you, but most of us cant be pleased quite so easily, we want to be entertained

Can’t dissagree with anything in your post Tony. Away from the saddness of the minutes applause I too had a very uneasy feeling approaching goodison. Impending doom is very much the way I see it. Before the vote I thought if the yes voters get their way I would just see my time out at goodison and pack in, but I feel so angry that I can’t see myself renewing my season tickets next year. I don’t see the point of prolonging my agony any more than I have to. I’m obviously one of the old school who cares more about the everton institution and all it stands for than any selfish yes voter who wants a new stadium where ever it is, (and a crappy one at that). I’ll stand by what I previously said that I don’t care if the Kirkby stadium is for free and looks like the nou camp, it’s not for me and many thousands others. To all you pro Kirkby people who gleefully spout "see you in Kirkby" as far as I’m concerned the fight isn’t over yet. Nil satis nisi optimum my arse.
