let’s have less knee jerk reactions, i would have thought the events of the last week would put the trivial hysteria some people spout on here into perspective.
13 Posted 26/08/2007 at 18:45:42
All I could think of watching yesterdays game was that we needed someone like Manny and how I was glad he’d be ready in a week or two. Well, so much for that.. fuck me, I’m disappointed now.

Valencia FC have reached an agreement this morning, subject to a medical for the signature of Portuguese International midfielder Manny for the next 6 seasons with a buy-out clause of 60m?. The midfielder, 21, is a product of Benfica and will be presented by the club in the coming days

Jarvis Cocker was wrong - cu*ts are running football, not the world!
Everton are a sham.
32 Posted 26/08/2007 at 19:10:57
I’d love to see the spotty web bitch that posted the ’test data’ running to the RED phone and stuttering "Mr Kenrwight Mr Kenwright we’ve got a problem" as his email server crashes and burns before his eyes.
Oh well at least the thought makes me feel a little better
33 Posted 26/08/2007 at 19:25:14
34 Posted 26/08/2007 at 19:24:31
The press have picked up that story from the Valencia website.
It is up to the player now. We don’t know what the situation is at the moment.
35 Posted 26/08/2007 at 19:16:35
I remember reading or seeing somewhere that when Everton had their initial bid accepted by Benfica, they had a period of exclusivity or grace(correct me if I am wrong) where they could tie up the deal. If true than such period has expired and Benfica wanting to gleam money from their asset have accepted a Valencia bid.
Now I don’t want to hazard a guess as to why the deal hasn’t been completed in this intervening period but assuming that the FA have not put the brakes on such deal the decision of new players should rest solely with Fernandes himself. Considering he has stated on numerous occasions his desire to play in the Premier League we should edge Valencia(even though the can offer CL football).
As for the news stories-taken from usually reliable sources(skysports, the guardian etc). They can all be traced back to that original Valencia article.
Thats me trying to keep a grip on my sanity. Sit tight and pray.
36 Posted 26/08/2007 at 19:37:09
Doesn’t mean it’s not true of course, or that they are jumping the gun. Not on the BBC (yet!), so maybe we can pray a little longer. As many of you have said - it would be nice if the club would put us out of our misery one way or another.

Not concrete I realise, but it sounds more and more like he’s already agreed to it. In which case, the Everton move must have completely broken down.

I’ve put the pills away again! Positive comments only on this thread please until we know for sure. I’ve got a piss-up (an anniversary) tomorrow that I’ve been looking forward to all week and I’d rather go to it alive! There’s another thread with somebody saying that Manny was at Goodison yesterday. I’m going to have another read of that now!
40 Posted 26/08/2007 at 19:51:22
If they couldnt afford it then just pull the plug on the Yakubu deal.
Yakubu will be an 11m flop. We seem to go for limited strikers who have got a good goalscoring record in the past. Johnston,Yakubu, Beattie...but look what happens when they stop scoring. They have nothing else about their game to make them of any value to the team. Players like Rooney can still dictate a game even when they are going through a dry patch.
41 Posted 26/08/2007 at 19:44:17
42 Posted 26/08/2007 at 20:03:41
There’s surely no way he would have been at the game if he’d already agreed to go to Valencia (or even if the deal with Everton was unravelling). But if the deal was okay last night, could it really have moved so fast this morning - Valencia being able to say that he was theirs pending a medical?
I am now wondering whether he really was training with us or at the game yesterday. Anyone got any certainty about these things??
43 Posted 26/08/2007 at 20:14:05
The only thing certain with Everton are us mug punters who get kicked in the bollox time and time again mate.
If BK told me Xmass was in december i’d check me calander.

Have they been deleted due to being utter rubbish... or am I just rubbish at this tintenet malarky?

Fernandes has been around Goodison for quite some time, with everyone including him expecting the deal to be sorted out. For whatever reason we couldn’t sign him, be it legal, money or otherwise.
Valencia have got wind of the situation, quickly agreed terms with Benfica, given Fernandes’s agent a ring and persuaded him that Manuel may as well sign for them since the Everton deal has met an impasse. We can hope that it’s still at this stage as it still gives us a chance to convince him to give us time to finish the deal. I reckon it’s more likely that we really aren’t allowed to sign him because of the PL rules OR we would have ended up having to pay an absolute shitload. Like 20 million or something.
I agree with everyone though, the question is ’why?’. Why haven’t we just signed him?
I can’t describe how devastated I will be if we don’t get him or a different top quality centre mid before the end of the window. The opportunity is there for us to be really significantly better than the mediocre football we have played for years. And it looks like we’re going to miss the opportunity.
53 Posted 26/08/2007 at 21:24:25
United waited a long time on Tevez but they kept the fans informed throughout.
Its always cloak and daggers with us. So depressing.
54 Posted 26/08/2007 at 21:35:26
55 Posted 26/08/2007 at 21:35:06
because the deal has taken so long due to the ownership problems ,valencia are taking a chance that the deal may not go through and decided to put in an offer.
yes this offer may have been accepted but if you were benfica would you wait and hope that everton will complete the deal or would you increaae your chances of a sale!
that said we do have a poor record of delivering top signings!!!
i won?t beleive he is not coming until i see it on the echo back page!!!
keep the faith!
56 Posted 26/08/2007 at 21:42:46
On all accounts there was interest from Valencia last week, but Manny ?said? that he wanted to play in the Premier League. Obviously our PR man, Mr Ross will be doing overtime tonight trying to spin this one. Yes there were legalities regarding the whole transfer saga- part ownership, but reading between the lines I think that Everton will use this excuse, and that they were prepared to pay 6m, but the rest on the never never! Thus they were never going to pay another 4/5 million. The player?s gretting fed, with the FA/Everton, the agent?s still saying he?s for sale, because we are the club that have the most protracted dealings witrh any players, because we don?t want to pay the money- Valencia come along-will pay the 10/12 million and wham bam Manny?s on the plane to Spain- and we have been left with egg on our face again, ?10 million ?saved?. Call me a cynic but that?s the way I look at it all- something stinks for him to be at the game last night, and then he?s on his way!
Yes there can be the argument that so if he does not want to play for us, sod him! but there is something seriously gone wrong here. Pissed off with the whole affair- Everton a ?laughing stock?.
We all know that we cannot survive Centre Mid with Neville and Cars. Jags showed potential yesterday, but we all know that we are lacking creativity in midfield, and cannot rely on Arteta. Yes hopefully we will get Yakubu, but cannot be totally confident till it?s been confirmed!
Basically we have missed out on excellent potential in Fernandes, and the whole thing stinks!

58 Posted 26/08/2007 at 21:44:09
i can’t believe it myself are your sources accurate or is it more fuel for the fire!
we need facts not conjecture as i have stated he has had no medical!!
not discussed terms!!
are we again acting like only evertonians can , lets be positve!!
59 Posted 26/08/2007 at 21:53:37
60 Posted 26/08/2007 at 22:03:22
I think we as Evertonians allways fear the worst due to events over the last decade or more.
The thing is though when it does go right albeit not often enougth we do appreciate it.
61 Posted 26/08/2007 at 22:00:58
lets presume (and it has really really wound me up) manny isn’t coming and we DID have the 10-12million to buy him 100%.. then who are we gonna sign to dominate the centre midfield like manny could... granted we’ve got chill to come back shortly.. but we all know we have missed a dominant force for a long while (since gravesen left)... who can we now move on to?!?... i cant think of anyone who is available and as good as manny?
62 Posted 26/08/2007 at 22:18:53
i am probably clutching at straws but maybe this is not as nailed on as we all believe!

Always too good to be true ey.
The theories of a huge PR stunt are well and truly underway.
I’m just overwhelmed to say the least, I really thought he was in the bag. If true, surely we need to seek reinforcements.
Suggestions anyone? I dont know why but signing Johan Vogel is just not the same
67 Posted 26/08/2007 at 22:36:11
huddlestone @ spurs is one..but they would never sell him...
68 Posted 26/08/2007 at 22:43:53
yakubu better sign were very short at the moment, come on tim & james hurry up!! we badly need ye this month has been crazy, every few hours the news changes up one minute down the another
69 Posted 26/08/2007 at 22:48:37
Someone above mentioned Danny Murphy, which is a decent shout and I know Moyes is a keen admirer. However, he is 31/32. Slow, not particularly strong.
Stephen Appiah, anyone?
70 Posted 26/08/2007 at 22:45:21
How is it that Everton fail to sign a player after two weeks of wrangling, yet Valencia can have him signed & paraded in 48hrs?
71 Posted 26/08/2007 at 22:55:29
appiah is a good call... wonder if veira fancies a couple of seasons back in the premiership?!...
malbranque?!.. dunno the chances of gettin him but i dont think he’s gonna play most games for spurs when they have a fully fit team... although admittedly he’s no centre mid dominator.. more a slightly taller osman...
72 Posted 26/08/2007 at 22:59:18
Good technically, strong considering his size, eye for goal.
73 Posted 26/08/2007 at 23:08:39
1, the club have messed up
2, the premier league have messed up
its another farce to add to the growing list and it really pisses me off.
74 Posted 26/08/2007 at 18:52:40
Expect Yakubu's work permit application appeal to be refused on Wednesday and him heading back to Boro. They've got your vote now, they couldn't give a shit!!
THIS CLUB IS A FUCKIN JOKE!!! never happens to any other club.... A FUCKIN JOKE !!
75 Posted 26/08/2007 at 19:11:50
Okay... roll on Kirkby; he would not lie about that... or would he?

77 Posted 26/08/2007 at 23:21:57
This is nothing to do with BK et al. being geniuses and leading us all on. In fact I believe this is a sign of how inept the everton board are, you see I think BK did intend to sign Manny and Yak all along, he just delayed it to fit in with the vote. Manny simply got fed up and walked. Hopefully Yak has more patience.
Why not get Graveson back, he wasn’t bad from what I remember and he could hit the ground running etc. etc.
78 Posted 26/08/2007 at 23:22:13
I wait with anticipation to find out what?s gone on - if we ever find out the truth that is.
I was having quite a pleasant day until I read these posts. Damn damn damn. Question now is - who can fill tha creative gap that was so evident yesterday v Blackburn? Maybe DM will give Shandy another chance.
