Yakubu

Comments (8)

Just read reports that Yakubu has been refused his work permit. The reason, he has not played the required quota of games for Nigeria. We have appealled the decision, and will know on Wed if we are successful. Can anyone remember if there have been other examples of this, and what was the outcome?

This was to be expected as he has not being playing for the national side. But as he has been playing in the prem for a few years and also has been one of the top scorers we will get a permit on apeal.

Although i can’t remember specific examples i’m sure this has happened numerous times before. On first application official rules are applied then appeals are made for situations such as this. I don’t think there’s any doubting his credentials and i don’t think there’ll be a problem. I think in the past it’s been more difficult arguing the case for promising kids who haven’t often had the time to achieve the relevant criteria in terms of playing 75% of internationals.

Didn’t something similar happen with Arsenal this season with their new striker signing from Dinamo Zagreb (Eduardo Silva) ? As far as I know, it was the same issue (not enough games played for his home country) and Arsenal appealed and was then accepted.

According to Yakubus’s profile on Middlesbroughs official site it says that he didnt have his work permit accepted wen he first signed for them form portsmouth and it was becuz of the same reason (75% of games) but the appeal was accepted! so its more than likely he will be granted a permit! :D

To be honest I’m not that bothered about Yakubu and I am certain he is not worth £11.25m. What pisses me off is that we appear to have missed out on Manny, a midfielder who could have made a real difference, and we find out from Valencia’s website and (in my case) Reuters. Meanwhile our own club (who last week said he would sign within 24 hrs) hasn’t said a dickybird. We get a vote on the stadium but the club can’t even be arsed to pass on to us basic news like this!

The reason that we had to appeal Yakubus work permit is because you can,t tranfer the permit with the player so we had to apply afresh. It,s usual to have a fresh application turned down but granted on appeal.

Without Fernandes, we will probably be entertained with more hoofball and I don’t expect Yakubu (if he signs) breaking that much sweat chasing bombs launched from the rear. School of Science?

Kenwright was warned by Yaks agent that there would be a delay in getting a permit,But the Manny situation is a disgrace Kenwright stated hed be a Everton player so surly he must have got him to sign something binding him to the agreement while sorting through the mess of ownership, only at Everton can you keep messing things up and get 59% of a vote that places our clubs future in your hands
