Legal issues with Fernandes

Comments (183)

Now that Valencia, Sky Sports News and the Guardian claim that Manuel Fernandes has agreed a six-year contract at Valencia there must surely be some issues with this. If anyone knows of any details about this, then please tell me because I am quite astonished about what has just happened.

Now, we don't know the full story yet, Everton could have got knocked back by the FA to allow him to player under third party ownership; we havn't been told anything yet.

Anyway getting to the point, if an indivual at any company (this could be sports, solicitors, even McDonalds)has agreed (not sure about signed), and passed a medical at Everton but is awaiting on clearence from the premier league, then isn't there some kind of legal issue which would not allow him to agree to sign a contract at another club?

Come on, it was only the other day that Moyes said we we're closer to completing the signing.

This is from the official Valencia website , roughly translated it says manuel fernandes will sign for valencia tomorrow subject to a medical , it’s all over the blueroom

Maybe we had already been told no by the FA hence Moyes comments yesterday. I would think even they are not stupid enougth to let this one out before the end of the voting.

Is it the F.A? Or is it Everton? Why are Man Utd allowed to have Tevez? What about Mascahreno? Why is it different rules for us?? Personally think it’s more to do with the board.

The leading Spanish sports newspaper "Marca" has claimed that he signed for Valencia today. They rarely make mistakes so looks like he’s gone.

This looks true, and is extraordinarily disappointing. I have been a defender of Kenwright recently (not least bcause of getting in Fernandes). This man was literally announced on the Everton website as joining us! There better be a good story behind this one.

Honestly surprised anyone????? to rub salt into the gaping wounds, check out what the BBC website says about the Yakubu deal. "Yakubu transfer to Everton hits snag"...he won´t be coming either I can guarantee. WHY the fuck do Everton announce signigs two weeks before and then leave us all hanging on like fucking dickeads?

Cue the tin hat, how many times does BK have to cock up for some people to realise the man is a charlatan and not fit to run this club? Legal issues? How with two existing players in the same league could you defend a decision against a dual ownership player tied to a speicif term contract when all it would take is legal action to use those two precedents against the decision? Something stinks at Goodison, stinks to high heaven and it’s not like it hasn’t stank to high heaven before. I’m waiting for the excuse it’s just going to be a cracker and to be honest I think poor David Moyes’ comments said he knew but shouldn’t be blamed.

Disappointing does not describe how I am feeling at the moment. The Kirkby vote never went the way I wanted it to go and now the player I have been pining for since last season has just been gazumped from under our noses by Valencia according to reports.
Now it would be easy for me to point fingers at the board/management, but I want to wait and see what the official line is.
If he has chosen Valencia over us, then I would not want him here anyway only to piss off a season down the line.
If the red tape has caused issues regarding this transfer, then I demand to know how United and The RS signed their Argentinians legally and why a precedent has not been set.
Finally if this is a result of incompetent management by the board (haggling), then it makes me feel very very angry.

voted no for the move to Kirkby and it is sooo tempting to go on about how this board has been leading us a merry dance etc etc. But I aint gonna start until these facts come out, and I urge every disappointed fan to do the same.

How can anyone have voted for this board to lead us to a new ground? Why does anyone trust Kenwright and Wyness?

If this is a premier league cock up then the board have still fucked up by leaving it so late in the transfer window. We now have no time to find a suitable replacement. Moyes said yesterday in his post-match interview that we need more craft in midfield. I don’t think I can take watching carsley and Neville in midfield all season.

19   Posted 26/08/2007 at 19:15:59

May be money. I heard that the Premier League might be asking us to buy out now the agent’s share of Manny (another £6m), and we hoped to just buy out Benfica at this stage, with an agreement to buy out the agent later. Did we then pull back because of the money?

I think Mascherano and Tevez are now fully owned by Liverpool and Man United respectively, so that would be different. Does anybody know?

Interesting for Moyes to have spoken yesterday about needing more "craft" in midfield. Obvious on the game, but an interesting thing to say if he knew the Manny deal was falling through. Signalling to BK that he needs now to go after other targets? (Who the fuck knows!)
Gavin Ramejkis
39   Posted 26/08/2007 at 19:48:32

Would anyone working with BK be anything other than frustrated and humiliated, don’t forget what BK did to his friend and business partner Paul Gregg, when he is backed into a corner, usually of his own doing, he aims the target at anyone nearby no matter who to take the bullet with his name on it. We are lucky DM doesn’t just give Everton up as a bad joke/nightmare as he will be made to look a fool before the invisible BK does.

True to form is the only comment I can make regarding Yak and Manny. It wouldn’t suprise me if we sold AJ to Arsenal just to ensure we maintain our good/bad see-saw. Moyes must be hopping mad at the board letting him down again. We could have gone for Smith or Nugent earlier in the Summer if Kenwright had got his act together. Ah well long hard winter ahead. Also note the attendance at yesterday’s game not good for an early season game.

This article has been taken from Sporting life:

Valencia have reached a deal to sign Everton transfer target Manuel Fernandes.

The Toffees were thought to be close to landing the 21-year-old midfielder, who was impressive during a loan spell at Goodison Park last season.

But now Fernandes, a product of Benfica’s youth academy, is set to sign a six-year deal at the Mestalla.

A statement on Valencia’s official website on Sunday revealed: "Valencia have reached an agreement during this morning, pending medical tests, for the signing of Portuguese midfielder Manuel Henrique Tavares Fernandes for six years with a buyout clause of 60 million euros.

"The 21-year-old midfielder, a product of the Benfica youth academy, will be presented in the next few days by the Mestalla club."

The fee for Fernandes is somwhere around 15million Euros (£10million), according to reports in the Spanish media.

He also enjoyed a loan spell with Portsmouth during the early part of last season.

I suggest that this wasn’t a fuck up .. I propose that the board may have known exactly what they were doing and that Manny would never sign; they probably involved Benfica from the outset, after all this could be deemed mutually beneficial in terms of the eventual transfer fee (a ’win-win’ as Mr Wyness might put it).. maybe there was a gentleman’s agreement (have we seen those before??)... I don’t want to get into throwing unsubstantiated allegations without knowing the facts... but with the lack of transparency from the club (time and time again), this has to be either consistently negligent player transfer dealings... or downright lies. Let’s have a statement from Everton to explain, in full detail, what happened !

If this is true, and it still remains to be seen, it wouldn’t be the first team a Spanish club had been creative with the truth surrounding it’s signings, the smokescreen claims are absolute nonsense.

How do you propose that Kenwright magically convinced Moyes to want a player that Kenwright knew we couldn’t buy anyway and that there would be a plausible reason for the deal falling through. Unless Kenwright is directing transfers (highly unlikely) or Moyes is complicit (equally unlikely) there is no grounds for these smokescreen claims.

Has the board been incompetent? Possibly. Has the Premier League favoured Liverpool and United in their third-party dealings? Probably. Is this all less clearcut than it seems? Let’s hope.

Does anyone really believe that us missing out on both Manny and Yakubu is down to bad luck. BK picked out two players who would bring a feel good factor just before the end of the vote, and whose signings he could legit tell couldn’t be done due to red tape. The money for the signings where never there and they where never meant to be signed.

Appreciate the temptations of the ’smokescreen’ argument, since this is all utterly beyond belief.

However - on Yakubu, there is no reason why we won’t, like Middlesboro, get a work permit for him on appeal. So let’s not assume yet on that one.

Also interesting that the Everton website has been updating on the Yakubu situation, but has gone completely quiet on Fernandes for a week. May mean something.

My guess is Fernandes is gone and Yakubu will still come. Wish it were the other way around!

Exactly Matt. So the FA can’t have blocked it this Sunday morning.

You’ve got to believe that Manny was at Goodison yesterday because yesterday he at least thought he was signing for Everton. (Favour to BK? Why would he do that?)

So what the fuck happened?
BG
69   Posted 26/08/2007 at 20:45:42

I am not believing he has signed for Valencia until he has actually been seen in a Valencia shirt! Now i would wait until Wednesday and the papers to see what they’re saying. BUT IF these reports are true, maybe the board will find the 6million to buy out the 3rd party.

People have said they saw Fernandes at Goodison,he and Moyes have said he’s very close to signing. AND why would Moyes be at United(even though we’re playing them in 3 weeks)if there was anything wrong with the deal, and it is a bank holiday so why would it be done on a sunday bank holiday!!! The only thing that it could be if anything it is the FA rejecting him playing under 3rd party ownership. In which case we should take them to court, because how can Mascherano and Tevez play and it be ok for them, and NO they have not been bought out!

And Yakubu will sign! Don’t be so flipping PESSEMISTIC! If Manny doesn’t sign then I’m sure Moyes will bring someone else in.

The anti-BK conspiracy theory on Yakubu doesn’t work. We have agreed a fee with Boro, and if he gets his work permit (which he should on appeal) he’s ours, and we have to pay up.

On Fernandes I’ve no fucking clue.

another thing is i thought everton and fernandes had agreed and ’signed’ all paperwork and it was just a case of the fa clearing it.

wether another club bid more or not is irrelevant as he had signed a contract with us !

if the fa had denied the deal then that would have happened on friday or earlier in the week.if this is the case why did the club not say anything ?

Neil, I concur with everything you say .. lets not forget that the Yakubu deal is still dependant on Everton... until the pen hits the paper Everton can still pull-out and blame all kinds of reasons... How convenient that these protracted transfers are conducted during the Kirkby debate ... How inconvenient then that Yakubu doesn’t qualify automatically for a work permit ... and they didn’t see that coming (anyone recall Alex Nyarko) ... you forgive my suspiscion but I think that this deal stinks as well... feels to me like this "cash injection" is another Fortress Fund ! Oh well, at least we’ve got Steffan Wessels :-)

Matt, appreciate your suspicions on the Yakubu deal in the circumstances. But Boro clearly think the deal is done (read Southgate), and have actually gone out and bought a replacement (Mido).

Now, I grant you that it is possible that we could squirm out of the deal and completely fuck them over... But I think they will scream to high heaven if that happens. Not sure even Bill is that stupid. (Others may differ.)

Even the players are sure he is coming so I can only imagine that manny has chatted to them and assured them he is coming. If he has joined another team, the players it seems will be just as surprised as us.

I’m not too bothered that Fernandes looks to have signed for a smaller club, I always felt he was a good player but over-priced.

What does annoy me is that the club kept quiet on the issue. Its like they had decided on a policy of keeping quiet and hoping we would forget the deal.

I just wish someone from the club had come out and admitted that the deal was in trouble and it was unlikely Fernandes would sign for Everton.

I’m very pissed off that the club led us to believe his signing was close and then kept us in the dark when it went sour.

Fuck I’m annoyed.

Steve, I reckon agreeing personal terms and signing a contract are two different things... didn’t Heinze agree terms with the Shite?... but he’s in Madrid now ... If the CONTRACT was not acceptable to the FA / Premier League (given we HAVE to be transparent to the FA) then Fernandes could never have signed it. The conclusion therefore must be either;

A) Everton never had a contract ...
B) The contract wasn’t acceptable to the FA (and Everton didn’t subsequently change the contract to be the similar to Tevez’s or Mascherano’s; which can be done in a matter of hours)...
C) The fee was not acceptable to the third party (we know Benfica agreed) ... in which case Everton were unwilling or unable to stump up the money.

Having read the mention reports re Manny it appears to me and the setanta site that they are only interested if the Everton deal falls through, not that they have actually signed him, if this was true sky sports would have this as a major headline esspecially with all the news over the tevez saga. I am still confident that we have signed him as it has been widely reprted that he had agreed personal terms and is happy to come to Everton, I cant see the FA screwing us over this as there has also been 2 other signings tevez and macherano or whatever the redshites called I just think its a load of crap and will be until everyone in the uk starts to report it.

Who are we to belive in the attached article it states we agread to buy out 100% of Manny. I don’t think he will be arriving. But cling on hoping.

Valencia have reached a deal to sign Everton transfer target Manuel Fernandes.

The Toffees believed they were close to landing the 21-year-old midfielder, who was impressive during a loan spell at Goodison Park last season.

But now Fernandes, a product of Benfica’s youth academy, is set to sign a six-year deal at the Mestalla.

A statement on Valencia’s official website on Sunday revealed: "Valencia have reached an agreement during this morning, pending medical tests, for the signing of Portuguese midfielder Manuel Henrique Tavares Fernandes for six years with a buy-out clause of 60 million euros.

"The 21-year-old midfielder, a product of the Benfica youth academy, will be presented in the next few days by the Mestalla club."

The fee for Fernandes is somwhere around 15million Euros (£10million), according to reports in the Spanish media.

Fernandes matched from the stands as Everton drew 1-1 with Blackburn on Saturday.

He had already successfully completed a medical at Goodison Park, and the contracts - which included issues of third-party ownership - were being studied by Premier League officials.

And as late as Friday the club were expecting clearance for Fernandes to be in their squad for the Blackburn game.

But the whole deal has been turned on its head, even though Everton had actually agreed to meet the asking price for 100 per cent of the player.

Previously it was believed that they had agreed to pay Benfica £6million for their half of Fernandes, with the third-party owners holding the other 50 per cent.

That initially caused problems for the Premier League, who are clamping down on all third-party transfers in the wake of the Carlos Tevez affair, and Everton then moved to buy out the other half from the owners.

Just been posted on Sky Sports News.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11837_2687798,00.html

"Valencia have revealed they have reached an agreement to sign Manuel Fernandes.

Everton were thought to be close to agreeing a deal for the Benfica midfielder, who enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Goodison Park last season, but Fernandes now appears set for Spain.

Spanish media have reported that Valencia have paid between 12 and 15million euros in order to secure the Portuguese international to a six-year contract.

Fernandes will now undergo a medical with Valencia before the transfer is finalised.

The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Benfica and helped the club to the Portuguese league title in 2005.

Fernandes, who also moved to Portsmouth on loan in 2006, has made 67 appearances in his time at Benfica."

Here?s another article. Check this one out. It?s just gets better!

Ananova:
Fernandes opts out of Everton move

Everton have been stunned by Manuel Fernandes? decision to join Valencia - less than 24 hours after he was their guest at Saturday?s home game with Blackburn.

The Benfica midfielder even spent an hour with chairman and owner Bill Kenwright assuring the Merseysiders that he would be joining them, before apparently heading home.

In fact, Fernandes flew to Valencia, and now looks certain to join them for a £12million fee. He had already successfully completed a medical at Goodison Park, and the contracts - which included issues of third-party ownership - were being studied by Premier League officials.

Everton boss David Moyes claimed a week ago that Fernandes would "be an Everton player within 24 hours". And as late as Friday the club were expecting clearance for Fernandes to be in their squad for the Blackburn game.

But the whole deal has been turned on its head, even though Everton had actually agreed to meet the £12m asking price for 100% of the player.

Previously it was believed that they had agreed to pay Benfica £6m for their half of Fernandes, with the third-party owners holding the other 50%.

That initially caused problems for the Premier League, who are clamping down on all third-party transfers in the wake of the Carlos Tevez affair, and Everton then moved to buy out the other 50% from the owners.

But at the last moment it looks as if Valencia, who play in Spain?s Primera Liga where third-party contracts are no problem, have stepped in and offered around £10m for just 50% of the player, which means his owners would retain an interest in the player and any future transfer fees.

As pissed off as I am I guess we should wait and hear the Moyes point of view on this.

Its beginning to sound like Kenwright had a deal in place and an agreement with Fernandes but the player appears to have done a runner to another club probably offering more money.

If Fernandes is the sort of player who could do a shitty thing like that then he doesn’t deserve to wear the Blue shirt.

Like I said I’m pissed at the moment but lets hear the full story before we go all angry mob on the club.

98   Posted 26/08/2007 at 21:14:51

Yes unfortunaately it seems to be now true. Sky text have updated the Everton page. On all accounts Fernandes has ’chosen’ Valencia- 6 year deal, depending on a medical, with a 60 million buy out clause. Yes he was at the match yesterday, with the PR people/Sky saying he was ’BK’S SPECIAL GUEST’. So what has happened for him to chose Valencia from Saturday evening to Sunday morning!Obviously Bill did a job on him!

On all accounts there was interest from Valencia last week, but Manny ’said’ that he wanted to play in the Premier League. Obviously our PR man, Mr Ross will be doing overtime tonight trying to spin this one. Yes there were legalities regarding the whole transfer saga- part ownership, but reading between the lines I think that Everton will use this excuse, and that they were prepared to pay 6m, but the reat on the never never! Thus they were never going to pay another 4/5 million. The player’s gretting fed, with the FA/Everton, the agent’s still saying he’s for sale, because we are the club that have the most protracted dealings witrh any players, because we don’t want to pay the money- Valencia come along-will pay the 10/12 million and wham bam Manny’s on the plane to Spain- and we have been left with egg on our face again, ’10 million ’saved’. Call me a cynic but that’s the way I look at it all- something stinks for him to be at the game last night, and then he’s on his way!

Yes there can be the argument that so if he does not want to play for us, sod hi,m! but there is something seriously gone wrong here. Pissed off with the whole affair- Everton a ’laughing stock’.

We all know that we cannot survive Centre Mid with Neville and Cars. Jags showed potential yesterday, but we all know that we are lacking creativity in midfield, and cannot rely on Arteta. Yes hopefully we weill get Yakubu, but cannot be totally confident till it’s been confirmed!

Basically we have missed out on excellent potential in Fernandes, and the whole thing stinks!

Now there’s a story saying Manny turned his back on Everton. Where does this story come from, as it quite conveniently excuses a certain BK from any blame. I’m looking very much forward to seing the reason for the yak not signing.
We were pretending to sign two players for a combined £24 mil., but end up with nothing. The money was never there. This was just the final plan by the board on the Kirkby spin.
Rob Fox
102   Posted 26/08/2007 at 21:32:22

Shady goings on? almost certainly, but who is to blame.

To accuse BK & KW of inventing the deals to sway the vote, well hats off to them Ronnie Biggs was an amateur. They have duped Moyes (unless it’s an unholy trinity of course) into choosing targets to spend the imaginary money that would be complicated, fronted out Benfica and the player (he has been training with the squad for over a week), have stitched Middlesbrough up like a kipper altogether.

Now at this point it is very hard to imagine why a work permit will be refused on appeal as he’s been a regular Premier league player for several years now, if BK & KW can wriggle out of this without totally blowing their cover, well I’ll be very impressed.

Yes, it is possible this has been a very clever plan or maybe we should be looking more closely at the FA or the company that ’look after’ Fernandes interests, or the player himself.

Then again maybe it’s test data on the Valencia site...

Or maybe we could all wait and see before we jump to conclusions...
Stuart Duncan
103   Posted 26/08/2007 at 21:32:22

Based on Shaka’s last post it sounds like this: 5 days to go before the transfer deadline and the Premier League are reviewing the contract. In step Valencia, and buy half the contract (which we can’t do) and allow the 3rd party to hang on to the other half. Better odds for the 3rd party - they must think that his value in future is worth more than the money we would pay now. I think we’ve been mugged, but by the Spanish FA as much as anything else.

Vogel, anyone?

104   Posted 26/08/2007 at 21:43:47

If Fernandes was at Goodison as Everton’s guest, and he ran to Valencia THE NEXT MORNING (I guess his agent must have called) - well, it does seem the guy is a total shit.

Perhaps we will never know the full story here (shades of the Rooney saga again), and who exactly is to blame. But the facts as they are coming in suggest that Fernandes is coming out of this very well either.

Thanks Rob for the post. As usual at Everton, we seem to be choosing between cock-up and conspiracy theories.

As Rob says, the conspiracy theory here requires that BK and KW are in fact geniuses, and that they have managed to fool both Boro and Benfica (and Fernandes). And probably Moyes.

Somehow I doubt it. I do think it is an almighty cock-up though, even if Fernandes does take some share of the blame here.

It has got to be true and I can see why the transfer is happening so fast. Clubs on the continent are alout 3 party ownership so Valencia will just buy half of him and the other company will own his other half.

I cant really blame Manny to be honest. Valencia are a world class team, playing champions league football and are able to offer him alot more money than us.

I really do hope its not true because after watching the game again today we really need a centre midfielder more than anything.

Icannot see us staying quiet about this one if Manny has turned tail.

Moyes had virtually stated he had signed.

The players had stated thay where looking forward to him arriving.

It has been all over the press regards the deal,

We will have to say something as it will effect the players already in as well as any future transfer dealings.

It will be intersesting what spin is put on this both by the club and Manny.

Whayever the spin is some of us will say its shit and a smokescreen. If Billy Bullshit could arrange such a complicated smokescreen. He would not be in the west End he would be in holywood. Much better off and we wouldn’t need a sugar daddy.

’Sorry the page that you are looking for does not exist.’ Suggests it’s been pulled.

The only places where the story is being carried are on the Sporting Life web site and on Reuters but their link takes you to Team Talk and their story is word for word the same as on Sporting Life. It suggests to me the story originates from Team Talk which is of course a solid and reliable source....not!

Difficult to explain the Valencia club website thing though I must admit.

Draw your own conclusions then, but to use a piece of transfer terminology from another Everton website, it’s all a bit ’fishy’. Ah, well true or not it’s given the conspiracy theorists a day out.

I don’t think Kenwright pulled a complex scam, I don’t think Moyes and Faddy were lying, I can’t believe Fernandes is as evil as to be our ’special guest’ all the while knowing full well he’s reaming us the next day. That’s sociopathic.

Just a thought on this conspiracy theory but what an incredibly clever way of deflecting the flak; invite the player to Goodison... knowing full well we won’t / can’t sign him... with the implication that he is a traitor when he sign’s for someone else.... perhaps even pose as a Benfica fan on a popular Everton fan site ..to sow a seed of doubt about the player’s loyalty (why would a Benfica fan even bother)! This would be as much a conspiracy as selling your Talisman striker to your opponents during half time without letting the manager know... or making your captain out to be a traitor and telling us he is refusing to play for the club... maybe Peter Johnson has been appointed a special adviser or something?

Agent Kenwright: Mission Accomplished.
Neil Pearse
130   Posted 26/08/2007 at 22:18:59

I think the clue is in the latest release. Everton had to buy out the agent’s third party ownership of Fernandes to satisfy the FA. That, apparently, we were willing to do. (Not sure that’s what happened with Tevez and Mascherano, but....) But the agent did not want to be bought out, especially when Valencia came in and made an offer which could be worth tens of millions of euros to the agent through the sell-on clause.

I know many of you want to go the BK conspiracy route (and competency we certainly have to question) - but it also looks possible that again this is a case of the influence of agents and the greed of players.

This article has been taken from Goal.com. It’s different from the one of the Valencia site.

Valencia will secure the signing of Fernandes tomorrow, the Benfica midfielder set to arrive at the Mestalla in a deal worth between 12 and 15 million euros.

The central midfielder, full name Manuel Henriques Tavares Fernandes, is set to join Los Che for the next six seasons after the Spanish club agreed terms with his club, and then the player, this weekend.

Valencia have been on the lookout for a midfielder for much of the summer, but missed out on Rafael van der Vaart, whose Hamburg paymasters insisted he remain with them for the time being.

Thus Fernandes, 21, arrives with plenty of expectation on his shoulders, but also with a wealth of top-level experience.

He has represented Benfica in the BWINLIGA since 2004, but recently enjoyed spells on loan with Premier League sides Portsmouth and Everton.

Indeed, each side wished to make the deal permanent, but injury problems at Goodison and then contractual disputes - Fernandes being part-owned by Benfica and part by "Global Sports Investment" - at Fratton put paid to the moves.

But the engine-room midfielder is apparently now on the verge of a Valencian move, being set to arrive in the Land tomorrow for a day of medical tests and paperwork.

Valencia kick off their Liga campaign on Sunday night in a derby tie with Villarreal.

Which ever way we look at this, it is all Everton’s fault. People may say that it is Fernandes who has done a runner to go for more money but the lad actually wanted to come to us. He said it at the end of his loan spell last season and he wouldn’t take a medical and agree personal terms if he didnt want to sign. Last week, before the Reading game announced on the official website that the signing of Manuel Fernandes would be completed within the next 24 hours. Therefore they must have already had discussions with the FA and they must have given their blessing for us to sign him. So the big question is, why the hell did we not sign him the next day. In my opinion, this was a publicity stunt to get people to vote for Kirkby. It would not suprise me if Yakubu does not sign and that he ’does not’ get his work permit. I for one cannot stand this any longer. Us Evertonians cannot be treated this way by the club. I fully expect an announcement on the official website tomorrow explaining why we have fucked up yet again.

Anyway I am glad we have not signed him. He was quite lazy and drfted in and out of games He wasnostrong enogth to be a central midfielder in the premiershi, especially a defensive midfielder. His attitude was all wrong at times as he wanted the ball to much one good move against arsenal isn’t enougth for me. He never really spoke well about the club after he left just a few glib quotes. He was obviously in it for the money and if he was that good why were thee not other clubs in for him before now. He was not a team player which is what we need and look how he treated Benfica.

Shit its not worked I am still pissed off regards this.

Well thats it then, manny has joined Valencia.

No way would they announce a time and place for the deal so it must be true.

Will be interesting tomorrow to hear the reaction from Everton.

You ’yes’ voters have been stitched up like kippers.

All of a sudden we’ve got £20 million+ to buy players and once the deal is done the players don’t sign

I’ll give Bill his due... he knows his mug punters

This has got Rooney, Fortress Sport and Kings Dock written all over it

Gavin Harris, your not realy expecting a explanation from Everton tomorrow are you?? I?ll be damned if we get one. Just like the Vogel thing they?ll expect it to dissapear or forget about it. just like that!!

Donning tin hat again, let’s not all forget the club has form for this type of reversing blame to the player rather than the club. Rooney despite all his faults before and since was painted as the devil when with a little research the club were just as involved in his departure, stories were subsequently out in the wild of his greed and his desire to crap on his loyal fans. I’m not certain the Fernandes deal going pop isn’t down to greed but it could so easily be far more sinister. The late window deals timed with the vote were drip fed to us all along by DM and BK, I’m not saying DM was/is involved as he just selects targets and the Directors perform the transaction, why do this over and over, simple because as the result of the vote shows we still flock like sheep loyal to the club able to block the custodians from our mind to watch our beloved team, we are all sheep and fall for the same con tricks over and over so maybe just maybe we have been conned again.

Moyes said this at the weekend, "?We?re waiting on Fernandes for the final part of the contract to be okay with the Premier League,? he said. ?I?m hearing good things that it is nearly done.

?It?s just a matter of putting that final paperwork through. We have been squeaky clean in making sure everything is done correctly for the Premier League.?"

Kevin, you believe that Fernandes was a guest of Everton yesterday and BK knew we weren’t going to sign him? And that BK lied to Moyes and the players that we were going to sign him? And that he somehow persuaded Fernandes to play along with all this, telling punters in the car park that he was signing?

I’m as mad as hell too, but this doesn’t add up.

Neil .. we did not need to buy out Global Sports Investment as we could have loaned Manny from them; just as the shite have done by loaning Mascherano from MSI for three years.. MSI still have a 50% ownership on the player (in three years time).. but crucially they have no ability to influence the team selection or team performance (this is the key difference between the Liverpool deal and the West Ham one).

Do you think the players would seriously take part in a charade on behalf of our board. If you do you are seriously deluded. Manny was at the match yesterday with Yakubu. Why would he be there if we weren?t serious about buying him. Why would Yakubu agitate for a move from Boro just to help out our board? We really are a paranoid bunch. If Manny has gone, it is down to him and the 3rd party membership, nothing more and nothing less.

Steve.

This is getting boring I and many other ’yes’voters did not vote because we where going to sign ywo players. There were many other reasons which were discussed at length.

Are people going to drag this up every time something negative happens at the club. I as I am sure you are am pissed off regards Manny (saying that as a member of the No camp you won’t be as you knew this was goung to happen.)
the bottom line is we all want what is best for the club but we have different views of what that is. If we are on here in 10 years time we will be able to say if the right choice was made.

Let others have their digs as I am sure they have already. with this situation I have nothing but distain for those at fault. but I see it as a seperate issue you may not but that’s upto you.

Neil, I remember: ?Rooney wasn?t for sale for £50 million?

I remember Fortress Sport and the ?cheque that was in the post? (or words to that effect)

I remember the Kings Dock: ?We?re about to move to a Stadium that will be the envy of Europe?

This non-deal stinks of manipulation and intrigue.

Tomorrow we should get to the bottom of the Fernandes situation. Either way the players we have at Everton aren´t to blame at all and they give 110% percent week in week out. Fuck "Manny" (more like Fanny if he´s fucked us over) and let´s all get behind our boys from here on in

Okay, I might be reading more into this than is there but:

If we wanted Manny so badly and had the money up front... why didn’t we wrap this up close season?

Why didn’t we wrap up the Yak deal 4 weeks ago?

Why leave it all to the last minute?

Why did wrapping up of both deals coincide with the weekend of the vote?

I’m probably getting cynical in my old age but when someone lies to me once... (Kings Dock) I get curious

When someone lies to me twice (Rooney) I get suspicious

When Someone lies to me a third time (Fortress Sport) I get angry and tend not to give them the benefit of the doubt when something very suspect happens again

well if fernandes has done the dirty then i hope his legs get broken.

but that isnt going to change my opinion though that everton have not done there best at preparing the team for this season and that when it comes to getting players in they have been a complete shambles.

granted baines and jags are good buys , but the last area of the team that needed new players was defence.

we needed a top striker and a playmaker over any other position.given 3 months to address this issue the club haven?t.

with only a couple of days left till the uefa cup draw and the end of the transfer window , our squad looks totally defencive , completely lacking attacking options and threadbare.

they could have signed manny in may , but no , they dithered and lost out.

3 months to build a balanced team and we have failed! no excuses , the club are to blame !

a good uefa cup run and a top 5 prem finish? your having a effing laugh !

Perhaps Manny hasn’t gone to Valencia for the money, as BK’s guest at Goodison yesterday (apparently), he maybe realises he is likely to get a stiff neck playing in our midfield, and he has gone elsewhere for footballing reasons.

The anger I feel over this must approach some of you other guys who voted no to Kirkby. I am absolutely livid with both the way we play - and will now continue to play - and the fact that I feel I have been BK’d (Fortress Fund anyone??) again.

The club MUST release a statement tomorrow explaining what exactly is going on with both our ’mega signings’.

157   Posted 26/08/2007 at 22:56:30

Kevin, (some) fair points (I think Rooney was as much about a greedy agent and player).

But I think the idea that BK has somehow managed to get everyone to participate in this charade is just TOO far-fetched. It seems much more likely that he has been a bit of a fool and has been duped by another greedy agent and another greedy player. Still doesn’t reflect well on him. But he’s not the Wizard of Oz.

The one thing you can say about being an Evertonian is that it’s er boring.(well off the pitch).

If we have been shafted and and I mean if. We have upwards of around 10 million floating around. Moyes had identified a defensive but creative midfielder. Publicly stated we needed one so who if anybody will he target.

Whoever it is it will have to be quick, no permits required,no joint ownership and available.

163   Posted 26/08/2007 at 23:15:30

It would be a coup if we signed Juan Roman Riquelme,

Boro apear to be sniffing around him with the money we are giving them for the Yak.

He is available for around 10 million. So if we where serious about signing Manny lets go for him. surely we would be a more attractive option than Boro.

Don?t want to get involved in any debate on this but I can catergoricaly state that Fernandes was at goody yesterday, I was fortunate enough to get an invite into the players lounge and he was in there with a couple of portuguese lads when I left around 8pm they where still there but he had disappeared, must admit I thought it was a done deal as he signed my sons shirt and autograph book with his name and the number 37. Not looking forward to breaking the news to him tomorrow, he will be gutted.
Jay Fitz
165   Posted 26/08/2007 at 23:22:40

If he hasn’t signed a contract then agreeing personal terms means nothing, the only agreement he will have broken will be a gentleman’s one. The fact the club were still awaiting the green light from the Premier League over the legality of the contract surely means he hadn’t signed anything.
Neil Pearse
166   Posted 26/08/2007 at 23:28:19

Robsdad - thanks for the direct facts. Fernandes was actually signing autographs with his Everton number 37 - LAST NIGHT! He must have thought he was coming to us. Or he has a career as the next Tom Cruise.

On what we know the best guess seems to be that his agent did not want to sell out his 50% and lose future sell-on money for Manny, and did a deal with Valencia instead. Manny told this morning.

Maybe we will never know.

You know its true, I don’t want to believe it but that dying feeling inside tells me its true.

This is nothing to do with BK et al. being geniuses and leading us all on. In fact I believe this is a sign of how inept the everton board are, you see I think BK did intend to sign Manny and Yak all along, he just delayed it to fit in with the vote. Manny simply got fed up and walked. Hopefully Yak has more patience.

Why not get Graveson back, he wasn’t bad from what I remember and he could hit the ground running etc. etc.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Everton laughing stocks yet again, just as painful as Kirkby. There was genuine hope before this but now batten down the hatches for generous midfield servings of Neville, Carsley and Osman. After all Carsley and Stubbs went off injured don’t ya know. Kenwright couldn’t run a bath. This deal should have been sealed a week ago but procrastination and fucking dithering means it’s passed. William Kenwright, piss off please and shove your Kirkby Project up your arse

Steve, these conspiracy theories are very inventive, but think about this again: "BK did intend to buy Manny and Yak all along, he just delayed it to fit in with the vote".

So BK wouldn’t have gained more for the vote if he’d had Manny and Yak parading around in blue shirts at the beginning of August, and playing in our first game of the season?

Somehow I think so!

Yak should still get his work permit and sign. On Manny, who knows? BK seems to have been duped by his agent / owner, who got a better deal for himself at Valencia.

Steve H.

Good point I think we are clinging to any grain of good news after the last few months. Manny was such a grain someone we thought could do a job for us. In an area that we recognise we are lacking in. we felt that this was also a statement of intent for the club to move up a level.

It appeared instead of losing a top young prospect we were attracting one.

This has now been taken from us and as we are already raw due to our love of the club the response has been magnified.

Let?s hope it turns out right in the end as it did the last time we lost a young promising player.

This is just another one in a long line of hysterical threads in response to speculation.

We’ve never actually signed a player till he’s at Goodison with the shirt on.

We appear to have a transfer strategy of leaving things to the wire in the hope of getting a better deal. When it comes off it looks great, when it doesn’t we look incompetent.

Why not wait till the end of the window before we pass judgement?

I said earlier on in this debate that we should see whether or not Fernandes had jumped ship before we start criticising or coming up with ludicrous conspiracy theories, some of which would be funny if they weren,t so insulting. On face value it now seems that Fernandes,s agents had more than one iron in the fire. That being the case his client must have known about it .I,m not sure I would want anyone at EFC so short on morals.

Good call Mike.

I was very disappointed last night and having slept on it I still am, but not as much.

We really do need creativity in the midfield, but the last thing we need is some jumped up knobhead/puppet for his agent owners thinking he can run the show.

It’s very dissapointing to hear that the lad was at Goodison on Saturday evening signing kids shirts etc with his squad number on it, we’re grown men and we’re fuckin gutted think what some young kids will be like.

Someone must be to blame for this, and until we get a reason we can only speculate. Sounds like an absolute fuck up and has left 99.99% of us absolutely gutted. Anyone with half a brain can see we need Fernandes or a Manny type in our midfield. If by Friday we’ve signed someone like Fletcher as previously suggested then Everton as a club will have alot of explaining to do.
