Rational reasoning behind the Manny Transfer Trouble

Comments (31)

Ok can we be rational here please?

Let's look at the facts:

1) Moyes stated Fernandes was set to sign, simply the final part of the paperwork was only submitted at the end of the week i.e. Friday. He says so on Sky Sports and the OS.

2) The paperwork, being submitted Friday, will not be looked at again until Tuesday. REMEMBER- ITS A BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND. Why would the FA work during then? Who would really sit down and sift through paperwork unless it was a matter of national urgency within football?

3) As a poster mentioned before we did have a period of grace to complete a deal. With this FA saga dragging on, it has obviously elapsed.

4) Therefore Valencia have had a bid accepted. Nothing wrong with that. Their website even says that. NOTHING MORE. I am fluent in Spanish- seriously I can swear it says nothing more or less ? he is going to meet them over the next few days to discuss a contract/personal terms/medical. Ooof that's a lot.

5) Fernandes has every right to speak to Valencia ? but he might not want to ? remember he will be looking for a team before the window shuts as Benfica won't take him back into the starting team.

So that's all we have at the moment. The solutions to these problems are simple:

1) The FA after Bank Holiday Monday, clear Fernandes for a move. He joins us, after we persuade him the paperwork is nearly done (if that even needs to be done... he has yet to decide to talk to Valencia!)

2) We decide to buy out MSI's share of Manny for £6M. Problem sorted. Personal terms and a medical have been done and dusted already.

3) We back off, the FA don't make a decision and he is free to join Valencia.

Just calm down people. I know we all want to see him sign, but we have been carried away by facts that have had too much gossip and spin injected into it.

"Everton have been shocked by Manuel Fernandes's decision to join Valencia." Hmmm... I'm staying perfectly calm.......................... NOT!

So, Friday he gets the move to Kirby he wants, Sunday he sees Fernandes go to Valencia despite us having him do his medical with us prior to the ground-move vote. What's the odds on Yakubu not getting his work permit on Wednesday for Mr Billy Liar to have completed a nice five days work!! We can then add Manny and Yakubu to the likes of Owen and Smith where Mr Liar has unashamedly tried to con Everton fans!! P> Kenwright needs to go, I no longer even care who takes over, let it be a russian gangster or thai human rights abuser, at least they have the decency not to take you for a complete fool like Mr Liar seems to think he can!!!!

My big worry now is that if Moyes wasn't in on it he will surely leave!

While no one is more sick than I am about this stunning development, the bottom line in this whole mess is that Manuel Fernandes isn't some mindless automaton. If you go by the Daily Mail's article, he made up his own mind as much as anything.

While the bureaucracy of the FA in regards to third party ownership may have opened this Pandora's Box, it seems that Fernandes decided to turn his back on his own promises after spending time training with the team, making apperances with the team, etc. I'm pissed as hell with Everton, but let's not make this out to be a case of some loyal Everton player who was snatched away against his will. Manny made his choice and he as well as Everton FC will now have to live with it. We've got a week to come up with something. Let's take our money and make something of it ? preferably for a player with a stronger gut and a lack of third party involvement.

According to a post elsewhere on this site, Fernandes was signing autographs at Goodison last night with his Everton number 37. He must have believed he was coming. And DM, BK et al must have believed he was coming.

But we had to buy-out his agent’s 50% to get him. And - surely no coincidence - prominent in the short Valencia press release is the news that there is a big sell-on clause in their deal (i.e. big future gains for the agent).

So maybe the agent didn’t want to sell up and found a deal elsewhere where he could keep his 50%? Makes more sense than anything else I’ve heard. Including that BK has magically involved everyone in a brilliant charade.

Doesn?t excuse the fact that the club could have had the player sign a pre-contractual agreement pending ratification by the FA. Obviously Mr Leahy's business brains missing on this one (well in fact, anyone?s fucking brains) The club justn?t haven?t got a clue on business and the club is subjected to more ridicule because of it?s amateurish behaviour. The same folk who tell us that packing a 50,000 seater in Kirkby will be no problem against the backdrop of 34,000 at Blackburn at home, a fixture you?d expect to go to and see the side win (well that?s another story). Please can people wake up to the jokers who are destroying our club?

I think this new article on the Valencia website suggests he?ll be unveiled in a press conference tomorrow:

PRESENTACIÓN OFICIAL DE MANUEL FERNANDES
26/08/2007 21:57

I think all the conjecture is pointless at this point in time. However I will not be satisfied that someone at Everton was not complicit in this deal ’falling through’ (given the protracted nature of the transfer) until some other party ... the FA / Agent / Global Sports Investment / Manuel Fernandez are officially implicated in a club statement... If said party are wrongly blamed then a lawsuit would of course follow; thus implicating someone at Everton. If no such statement is given then I guess we can make our own mind’s up as to the real truth.

"ive been hearing many strange things floating about such as he signed on saturday that he had crunch hour long meeting wiv chairmen pledging alligance before swooping of to valencia it is possible that benfica accpeted the bid and though not oblidged to talk wiv valencia it could be a way of fernades bluffing for higher wages??!! i hope!"

That made no sense at all, even when i put comma’s and full stops in !!!

James Vaughan better than Fernandes ?

1. why are you even comparing them ? ones a midfielder the other is a striker.

2. fernandes is clearly more skillful

Manny’s joining Valencia! End of story. He, like just about every footballer is a careerist (just ask Benfica) and in joining Valencia has the opportunity to play in the Champions League, on hearing the news last night I felt like I’d been stabbed right through the heart but we have to accept it, it’s his decision, there’s no conspiracy.

I know manny is a good player and he would have been a decent aqusition. But I am not convinced by his workrate and i think he would have become a bit of a liability in midfield

On one hand it is so disappointing to see Fernandes go to the Mestalla, but on the other hand if he does not want to come here then he is obviously not comitted to the cause so fingers up to him.
I was pining for him since last season and the only thing I question is why we took so long to move in for him-surely we should have decided why he was still here.
Anyway, spilt milk and all that we are a team built on spirit and I dont want to see that broken with someone who doesn’t want to die for the cause, lets move on and if it is silly season let me join in....I would love to see us go for Riquelme but he needs a team who’s focus will rotate around him and his work ethic is not the best...If only there was another Cesc Fabregas.....

Steve,

I love your optimism, and I hope you are proved to be right, but as the old adage goes there is no smoke.....
I am (was) a massive Fernandes fan but if he sees using us as pawns against getting a move to Spain it dont bode too well for the future.

Anything on the official yet? Lets have a look....

Does anyone not agree that after Saturdays showing and him being there to watch that mess he probably decided that midfielders are of no use to everton as they seem to bypass them and look for the new found aerial prowess of Mr Mcfadden and Mr johnson instead, especially if Tony Hibbert has the ball.

Thus deciding Valencia would actually give him a touch of the ball...

I only had to read the sh*te pedalled by A.Newell and his ilk to see the conspiracy theorists now have their sights set on ruining the reputation of everyone connected with the club including the supporters... Why oh why don’t they go and support(if you could call them supporters) another football club.. I know.. go and support one of the big four who can get away with anything because they can afford it, who can twist the rules because they have the power and influence.. why don’t you support one of those clubs n f*ck off to the Euro super league with them..The sooner we get rid of the conspiracy theorists the better..

Still nothing on the Valencia website. Lets pray we can still pull this off. As a very frustrated season ticket holder our midfield is crying out for someone who can run with the ball and pass the ball.

not messin but if we miss out on this manny transfer we hav only the premierleague to blame.
how come it takes them weeks to check the paperwork (im guessin fifa will 2) but LaLiga take a day. something is not being reported correctly.
are LaLiga ignoring the 3rd party? if so surely fifa will step in after the tevez saga.
like mike sed abar manny only speakin to valencia. im guessin this is a more likely event at this stage.

what I find more annoying is the fact the Everton Fc have stayed completley stum on the matter, I would have hoped NO EXPECTED them to come out and either let us all know they have lost him or say they will fight tooth and nail for him, but as usual we are all left hanging dry on the matter.. As usual no respect for the people who keep them in business!!!

We just have to forget about him. It is a pity, but on the other hand he would have cost us £12m in total, which is a hell of a lot. And we don’t want to end up in a Tevez like situation either. Personally, I have to question how long he would have stayed anyway in view of what he has done this weekend.

The important thing is that we get somebody else in that position this week as I, for one, cannot see Neville & Cars lasting a whole season in central midfield. Even with Cahill’s return, we need as Davey put it on Saturday, ’some more craft’.
