The Mail Bag
Weaknesses clear to see

Are we being left behind? After rewatching the match yesterday, it was plain to see we are in desperate need of players. We where matched in terms of workrate, overpowered in terms of phsicality and generally outplayed.
It is plain to see that if Arteta is marked out the game then we are very much finished in terms of actually adding any creativity to the game. We will see this more and more in terms of Arteta being taken out the game. Blackburn doubled up on him with both Warnock and Pedersen as did Reading with Hunt and Shorey.
After watching the game yesterday I thought, yes, it was a bad result but when we get the likes of Yakubu and Fernandes in and kick on... Now, both those deals look to be coming to an end. Yakubu is touch and go whereas Fernandes is more or less a Valencia player judging by reports from both Spanish and English headquarters.
Where will the goals come from? It is getting plainly obvious that Johnson is very overrated. As the games go by and am continually seeing weaknesses in his game. His first touch and Technique are Championship level whereas he never seems to want to shoot. I admire his pace and workrate but when was the last time he actually went behind a back four? The last time I remember was against Watford where we won 3-0 and again he failed to shoot and instead won a penalty as he did against Sheffield Utd at the earlier on in the season.
The most effective strikers we have at the club are both Anichebe and Vaughan. Anichebe may be a limited footballer in terms of first touch, hold up play and technique but he is also big, strong and decent in the air and is capable of adapting to the football we play. We are a long ball team. I dont see any reasons why that is going to change. After watching the game again at home the "HOOFBALL" was so bad I felt like shouting at the TV. You could hear Moyes shouting at the likes of Hibbert and Neville "KEEP THE BALL ON THE FLOOR" yet they contunued to do it.
The plusses from the game yesterday where Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka. At least when Baines did hit it long he hit at to the channels where AJ could actually run onto it instead of floating the ball right onto 6ft-5 Samba's head. Jagielka is like an updated version of Carsley. He can run all day, tackle, break up the game but he actually gets the ball down and passes it.
Hopefully Pienaar can find that extra bit of creativity but he doesnt look suited to a central role and there is no way Moyes will play him instead of Osman. Moyes needs to be brave against Bolton. Stop picking the likes of Stubbs, Carsley and Osman and freshen it up with the likes of Baines, Jagielka, Lescott and Pienaar.
