The Yak Goes Back

Comments (22)

Sky Sports have just reported that we will be unable to sign Yakubu. It states this as a matter of fact and does not mention any appeal by Everton. Could it be that BK did know of the problems with Manny and the Yak being unsurmountable, and kept Moysie and the voters unaware of this?????

James McFadden today on Everton TV stated that Manny and the Yak would increase competition this week... What is going on?????

No Manny, No Yakubu, Yup its Monday. The only piece of 'news' from this whole rotten affair is that we have 23 odd million pounds to spend, that we never had at the start of the season. With four days to strengthen the squad. I still view a top midfielder as a much higher priority than a top striker. Where are we going to find one?

I hope this isn’t true... But with our luck it probably is. Havn’t seen any reports yet, but it makes me want to vomit. If Yak doesn’t make the move to the club, then BK is 100% to blame, and all intelligent supporters will be pissed beyond reason.

Please STOP spreading more paranoia. This day has been bad enough. Check the Sky Sports story or read more than one line. Yakubu?s initial app for a work permit was declined which was expected. The appeal happens Wednesday. Why don?t you just post a story about Arteta?s blown out knee or Andy Johnson?s loss of a leg?

Because the item I saw initially on Sky Sports did not mention the appeal - it said he would not be moving from Middlesborough.

I saw later that the appeal was for Wednesday, but as this hadn’t been posted at that time, I thought that Micheal might just have ignored it.

Sorry to keep you up so late with worry Rob, so PLEASE go to bed for your much needed beauty sleep. I am only up now and saw that the article had been posted because my daughter managed to come home from a night out without her house keys.

It does look like the Yak will be here come Wednesday, but he better be joined by a class midfielder like Appiah - who we’ve een linked with in the past - or Riquelme or he will end up like one of them Ethiopian long distance runners after chasing long balls all season.

I hope any other night owls read this whole thread instead of posting replies only on my original submission.

Sleep tight.

It looks as though we have been done over by the board again. This stuff happens year after year. Its beyond a coincidence now. If these pelicans continue our great club will come tumbling down. We need to oust the current board and actually get someone in who has a clue. I really am become very disillusioned by the whole thing. We are one of the great clubs in the world with the best fans in the land and we have to put up with this. I find it hard to believe that there hasnt been anyone suitable to take our great club forward. Smokes and Mirrors, I believe.

Why cant we stop blameing the club for this and start looking at manuel fernandes instead if this is the sort of person he is to betray us like that we have had a very lucky escape indeed i hope he rots

Rick Adams why were neither deal made weeks ago instead of to coincide with the vote? Fernandes wanted to sign when his loan finished, even if he had wanted to play for Valencia now the club could have made a very tidy profit in a very short time or refused the move and still had him under contract. With a four day window left and the only quality players if we are to be completely honest not from this country we are left chasing very expensive shadows who we would have work permit issues with and who could also be cup tied with their current league having potentially having already played qualifying matches. Loyalty should not be given blindly.

Michael Tracey tells us we are one of the great clubs of the world.

That’s interesting.

Perhaps he’d be kind enough to let me know next Saturday’s lottery numbers and where Lord Lucan is.

Perhaps it would be truer to say that we’re a complete shambles with bitterly divided fans and a playing style that reminds me of eleven Russian women shot putters after a night out on the vodka.

Manny mmost likely took in mentally the utter crap Moyes puts out ,and thought "fuck this for a game of soldiers, who wants to watch the ball passing over my head for 90 mins".It was bad of him to say the least, but can you really blame him?

Gavin, why would Bill wait until late August to sign Fernandes and Yakubu if he could have signed them earlier? Wouldn’t it have been better for the vote to have them romping around in blue shirts in early August and playing against Wigan on the first day of the season?

Isn’t the most likely explanation that we didn’t think we had the money earlier? (Robert Earl or Philip Green?)

Neil,who knows?

My own suspicion that is that BK is neither a cynical liar nor a cheat. In terms of football business, he’s simply a fool.

Whether I’m right or wrong though, and whatever the full story behind the various calamities that happen behind the scenes, the one reality we can all witness is the poor quality of football the chaps produce. And the one question DM has to address is whether or not he can find someone who knows the difference between intelligent football and surface to air bombardment.

It is a damned shame with fernandes but we must move on because at the end of the day he sees joining an ill disciplined side of prima dona’s that gets walloped 3-0 a better proposal than joining a strong spirited industrious side.
I have a theory that we have already made the best signings of our season-Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines. When those two string together a few starts to games we will be a much improved proposition. I see us securing Yakubu and thats it-I would rather us do that than panic and go daft and secure Paul Scharner on a 5 year deal.

Is anything ever simple with our lot?

Come Wed and things were to go belly up, will we be still fighting for Europe next year?

It will be much harder than last season.

Our main rivals Blackburn,Spurs and Newcastle seem to have attackers in abundance. We all know at this level you have to take the chances or suffer.

Sounds so familar does it not.

Now Mike why do you think quote "we?re a complete shambles with bitterly divided fans"? Is it because this board has constantly lied and screwed the fans. Hey BK might be a great Everton fan but so am I. I on the other know that I dont have the money to make this club great. But neither does he. why doesnt he just admit and sell up. We are one of the great clubs of the world and up until about 3 months ago we did have the best fans in the land. But were divide because BK doesnt have the balls to make a decision he knows is pure crap, so he lets the fans think they are getting a vote and then he has no responsibility for the decision. This signing on big players happens every year about this time and always ends in excuses. But what the fuck Lord Lucan and next weeks lotteries numbers has to do with it doesnt make sense.

I,ve scoured sky and I can,t find any stories on us not getting Yokubu. They ,like everyone else are reporting a delay because of his work permit being appealed.
There,s too much gone on between EFC and Borough for this to fall through. They,ve already bought his replacement so,I think it,s fair to say that he,ll be signing on Wednesday.

Dont believe the hype, We will get the Yak, there is NO WAY the appeal will fail, as YAK has played for Boro practcly every game since he started, and the reason he didnt play for Nigeria is personal reasons with the coach. The fact he has been playing in this country for several years is the key. If he had been in the reserves at Boro or bench warming we would be in trouble with the appeal. As he is a main starter and cost 11 mill the appeal will be no problem.

As for Many, wait and see, this seems to me to be a little too much like his agents trying to use a scare tactic on us. Many was with us on Saterday, Valencia got slaughterd by our equivilent of reading and this is a panic move by them. To be honest I dont think Many had to much of a say in it.

Even if he doesnt sign (and I think he will) we have 1 week and several million pounds burning a whole in DM’s pocket it will be interesting to see who we sign.

Yak is a non-story. He was never going to get his work permit in the original application as that is merely numerical criteria according to international appearances. He will get it on appeal, no problem.

Being the hopeless optimist that I am there is still a part of me that believes Manny will change his mind and come back, or maybe it is all agent talk. If not then we have missed out on players before (Peter Withe, Oh No Sissoko, even Essien), and we will miss out again, like any club does.

If I remember correctly,Benni McCarthy was another one that "got away" from Everton some time ago. Yobo’s transfer was also an on/off affair too.... What’s new there then?

If Manny doesn’t sign and it does seem less likely at present, then it just confirms a)Most players have zero loyalty when more money and fame is on offer somewhere else. "Once a blue, always a blue eh? b)BK and Co really should get their act together when it comes to transfers.... They’ve had enough experience of such dealings.
Perhaps they’re just unable to avoid banana skins....

Last week wasn’t that good for the blues. It can’t get much worse this week or can it?

There is still nothing on the Valencia website. I also noticed they used the heading of the article "Valencia signs Fernandes" then goes on to say they hope to announce his signing in a few days. Come on Everton, show us you mean business and get him fucking signed.........please !!!!
