What now?

With the Fernandes deal now dead in the water, and with so little time left to make transfers, attention must now change to signing another midfielder.
The time for recriminations and Board -bashing will come. We desperately need another creative midfielder because a central midfield of Neville and Carsley is just too depressing for words.
So will our tenuous link with Riquelme be revived? Or perhaps our even more tenuous link with Lucho Gonzalez?
No, I think not, more likely is that we get a stop gap signing in the mould of Kilbane. Perhaps Moyes should go for a wide midfielder and play Arteta more centrally.
I, like most of you, am very depressed about the whole situation and feel the need for a big name signing (other than Yakubu) to quell my anger at this farce.

Any deal for Lucho Gonzalez would be pretty much dead in the water since Porto bought out his ownership in full I believe. I’m not really too sure where Everton go from here, with the rate our deals seem to get done the transfer window would need to be open for far longer. Perhaps we’ll be forced to stump up that £1M for Vogel, but beyond that... I don’t forsee anyone coming in on a big deal.

i just said on the os blue room that we will probably have to settle for second rate crap like nolan or fletcher.
i dont think the club are capable of something so spectaclar to make up for the dissapointment this weekend.
players that spring to mind who may well make up for this shambles...joe cole , swp , riquelme , paul scholes and i just though of another.....diego of werder bremen.

Last I heard Vogel was taking Betis to court - even if we did sign him though he’s not the type of midfield player we need. Sure I’d welcome him as a worthwhile addition to the squad, but we desperately need some more creativity in midfield.

What’s wrong with Kevin Nolan? I wouldn’t class him ’second rate crap’

ross did you see him last weekend for bolton ? he was awful ! he even admitted himself that he didnt know what he was meant to be doing.
also he isnt a playmaker but more a poor mans tim cahill.
nolan hasnt got a creative edge or a killer pass. it would be a waste to sign him as he is not the type of player we need at this time.

I agree PL PL, scharner is a touch of class and has pace to burn. Would be a nice piece of business...

scharner only cost a few quid because he’s not very good, we need a commanding midfielder asap or were in deep shit, and we’ll have neville and carsley being our central midfield to look forward to, how exciting.

’because he?s not very good’ ???
19 goals in 17 international from MIDFIELD speaks for itself !

Paul Sharner, a good player if your Wigan Athletic where emily heskey is a good foward and kevin kilbane.....
We need to be dipping into this new pot of money we have and go for Joe Cole or SWP as mentioned earlier or maybe bently from blackburn.
Remember, we have not seen much of Piennar yet

As I said when I made my original post I don’t intend to get drawn into any debate. It was my son who had his shirt signed on Saurday evening by fernandes (37)in the players lounge. I would love to be able to say with that I had manny sussed and knew the deal would fail but sadly I didn’t. He seemed as indifferent as all the other players when rob asked for his signature however I put this down to the earlier events. Whilst obviously he wouldn’t turn down a request from a kid on the basis that he was not signing, i’m a bit miffed that his indistinguishable scribble is unique as he has also written his number. Afraid rob will file this incident away as another example of the ’here today kiss the badge and leave tommorrow’culture shame that an eight year old fanatic is exposed to this sort of cynicysm though.

The jag is a d/m anway all the same to me, arteta has impressed on the wings and is to light weight for a central midfield player. Cahill will will make a difference to the side we need a midfield player before the yak, we have been trying to sign one for years sisko, davis, neville was singed to play there that went well didnt it!(he should only play r/b & 3.5 mill you could of get a better r/b) why hasn’t the jag started so far this season as a first choice d/m we spent 40% of transfer money on him this window and he hasnt started a game shocking. We needed a striker and a midfielde more than anything and we get a d/m, left back and lmd if we start are first uefa cup game with neville and carsley in midfield I believe we will get knocked out in the first round and as I said who we will attract in jan as a bottom half side with no europe. I think we should surrender are place in europe to save being embrrassed again.

The answer to our problems is a deeply unhappy individual at White
Hart Lane, young Hodderstone does have the vision we so deperately need, He is dying to play but cant get in coz Jol is trying to accomodate 4 top strikers and coz the silly baldy sod think jj is a better player.
there will never be a better time to make spurs an offer they cant refuse. Trust me this lad will be worth 20-30 million as soon as he establishes himself

If we are all throwing names in then someone off another topic just gave a really good shout for a player that we would have every chance of getting and he looks top draw: Shunsuke Nakamura.
More of a wide player but can play anywhere across the park. Arteta and him could exchange wings relentlessly and he is a massive threat from anywhere on the pitch. I doubt we would get him any less than 8mil though.
He gets my vote. Young industrious and a quality playmaker-he would chomp at the bit to come to the premier league.

Having opted for a crap stadium in a crap location, we now seem desperate to find a crap midfielder to complete the set. My idea is for us all to keep the motto in mind....some of the suggestions that I have read for personnel to replace Fernandes are laughable. No wonder Kenwright and Moyes have such an easy ride if the fans are satisfied with second best and worse. It took Valencia no time at all to hook Fernandes....it is now time for our leaders to deliver in a similar way.
