Yakubu Fiasco

According to the Official EFC website, I see that club officials are planning to attend an appeal hearing for Yakubu's visa application. An appeal!? Does that mean he was denied one by the government in the first place! Given the Fernandes about turn, this is all beginning to look a little bit suspect.

"Does that mean he was denied one by the government in the first place! "

Especially this government, their immigration record is shocking!

This is all quite simple guys and there’s no conspiracy. To obtain a work permit, a player has to have played 75%+ of the games for his national country. Because Yakubu has rowed with the national coach, he hasn’t done this. When the appeal is lodged, the authorities will see that he has played regular top level football for Boro and Pompey over the last 4 years and give him one without any problem.

A lot of players coming into the country have their permits turned down initially but on appeal 90% succeed. And that’s without them having played in the country for the last 4 years like Yakubu has. When he moved to Boro the same thing happened and they got him a permit. When he moved to Pompey the same thing happened and he got a permit even though he had only been playing football in Israel.

Yakubu WILL get a work permit on appeal. I know everyone is jumpy after what has happened with Manny but we all need to calm down and let this one work itself out. Which it will.

FFS this is normal - he does not meet the ’normal’ criteria of playing 75% of games for his country in the last year following a disagreement with the Nigerian FA. Therefore he fails to meet the criteria and the Home Office are legally obliged to refuse his initial application and review it appeal - this was resolved successfully in his two previous transfers and there is no reason to think it won’t be again
