The Mail Bag
On a positive note...

I don't know if anyone caught the laying of the tributes to Rhys Jones today, but on a day when a lot of Evertonians have a lot to be angry about, I certainly took some heart from the trouble and sincerity with which the club have dealt with the tragic shooting of the young lad. Alan Stubbs (surely the truest blue we have in the team) was impassioned and moving in his sympathetic plea for assistance and condolences for the family. Lest we forget why we love this club, certainly for the trophies, history and greatness that we all know is there, but also because we are different from virtually every other club in the premiership in that we have players who care about the club and its supporters.
I would have loved (and expected) Manny to join, but in a non-footballing sense, I am more grateful that we have ambassadors such as Stubbs who, although unlikely to provide the quality to lift a trophy, lift the club above all others in terms of honour, character and loyalty.
Let's hope our future signings combine the footballing excellence we expect, with the characteristics we can respect.

"Former Everton player Wayne Rooney, who was born in Croxteth, has also left a floral tribute to Rhys. An Everton shirt with the message 'Good night - God Bless Rhys' was left by Rooney, his fiancee Coleen McLoughlin, and her family."
Whatever, the footballing side, the lad done good, and I think, people should forgive and forget from our side now aswell towards him. Good on the lad, well done Wayne, and God bless young Rhys. Sympathy to his family.
