One Extra Addition?

Comments (23)

I notice that the Official Everton press release says:

"David Moyes and his coaching staff are continuing to seek the extra addition to our squad, which they feel they require for this season."

Extra addition, in singular, no doubt implying Yakubu. This would imply that only Yakubu will be sort for the final addition before the close of the transfer window, and no 'replacement' for Fernandes will be sort. I would have thought that an additional midfielder would now be a priority ahead of the signing of Yakubu, although I am very much in favour of signing him.

It’s ambiguous. If we sign Yakubu and someone else, then it meant we were looking for a midfield replacement for Fernandes, if not, then it only refers to Yakubu.

The PR people aren’t complete mugs.

I wouldn’t read too much into that statement. Remember last week Fernandes was signing within 24hrs.

The club is unpredictable and could sign only Yakubu, a handful of players or no-one. Lets just see what happens.

Personally I think Yakubu is a mistake, paying big money for a player prone to laziness and whose just as likely to miss as he is score is very risky.

As the famous quote goes, somtimes Yakubu plays like Tierry Henry and other times he plays like Lenny Henry.

We’ve got 4 days, the Everton medical itself takes 6!

Just heard Solskaer has retired . Wouldn’t suprise me if Manu U put in a bid for Yakubu just to put the icing on the cake!!

Oh bloody hell, give me a break. You people pick apart every single sentence and try to demonize it. They said we are trying to find another player, meaning other than Yakubu since that guy has already been found and just waiting for a clearance from the government.

And if we don’t get another player other than Yakubu we’ll just get on with it and go out trying to win games with the squad we have. Fernandes was not going to make or break our season. We have a good team, Jagielka looked promising on Saturday and will hopefully slot into the middle against Bolton. Support the players who are here working their asses off for the club.

I agree with David.

Time to move on, Valencia are a massive club, with a squad of some depth a quality, you can see how it has come that he could choose them over us.

I know it is frustrating, it is possibly the biggest and most shocking twist I’ve encountered, perhaps because it’s first hand.

You’ll see if there’s an extra addition, and Yakubu, by midnight on the 1st September.

Let’s not panic.

I’m not panicking Mr Mainwaring, there’s no panic here, I’m definitely not panicking, panic is the last thing on my mind.

Who do you think you are Kidding Mr Kenwright???

We’re doomed I tell ye, we’re doomed.

Sorry for the insanity boys, but it’s been an insane week.

Maybe they just mistyped the statement and missed off the "s".

Now there’s a proper conspiracy theory for you - who took the "s" off the Everton keyboard, and why?

As much as i admire your optimism Steve, Cole & Wright-Philips will not want to come to Everton. Whey would they leave Chelsea?

The debacle of the Fernandes (non-)transfer, has placed more scrutiny on the Yakubu transfer. We are all hopeful that it will go through of course. Also, I have noted a growing unrest with the displays of Andy Johnson among some Everton supporters.

My point is this, with the "hoofball" we play, and with Neville & Carsley in central midfield, it is unfair to blame AJ for a lack of goals when he spends most of his time running after aimless long balls, or trying to outmuscle & out jump 6ft plus centre halfs. Also, how long will it be before Yakubu (presuming he joins) gets bored of doing the same.

All of which brings me back to the Manny Fernandes cock-up. It highlights further the need for us to add creativity to our midfield and surely that is our priority. No point having a £19M strikeforce if you have no one to supply them with decent service.

Of all names mentioned I think Nakamura could be the most interesting, playing him wide would allow Arteta to move into the middle of the park??

It was a real pitty that we missed out on Fernandes but there still might be some hope. Has anyone seen Joao Moutinho from Portugal in action he is like a young Deco mabe better. He is a much better player than Fernandes he is very creative and would have to be one of the best midfeilders in the world at the moment and is what we need. If you don't know much about him have a look at youtube. So I hope Moyes get's wind of this and put's a bid in because he could be the best signing we ever make.

I reckon we should sack off Yakubu (that’ll piss off Steve Gibson won’t it) and use all the money on the midfield. Cahill can be converted easily to a striker when he is back and Vaughan won’t be far behind.

Buy enough midfielders and we can put Neville at right back.

I’m hearing Kevin Nolan shaped rumblings....or it could just be my stomach turning over.....ugh....I seriously hope not. Anything that fat Sam’s had his dirty, sweaty paws on has to be dodgy. Overated at best.....but then he is of course from Liverpool so it must be true....sigh..

I hope the Nolan rumours are just that, rumours. He fits into the Moyes mould,of the hard working player, but FFS, we have enough at the club already.

Listen here guys,
We did eveything we could with the Fernandez thingy.

THe FA wouldn’t let us sign even his meal claim before the 3rd party issue is sorted.

I even took him to the director’s box for an hour and had a heart-to-heart with him.

We thought it was a done deal until he stood us up, big time.

How were we suppose to know that the dude’s a filthy liar?

The comment wasn’t ambiguous I believe the statement read the club are seeking the extra addition to the squad required by Moyes etc.

It’s implying that we are looking for a midfield replacement.

Why would the club be talking about Manuel Fernandes and suggest the new signing needed will only be Yakubu. The striker that is signed already subject to a work permit being granted.

Some fans are far too cynical on here. No offence intended but I’m sure some fans do sit and study every comment for a possible negative meaning to it.

Fernandes gone, who next? Not Nolan, he is so slow (hardly a box to box midfielder) he cannot tackle and a red. I am strugling to think of that top class midfielder Moyes knows we need to feed the forwards, with that defence splitting pass, and chip in with a few goals himself. Who's out there by Friday?
