Bring back mad dog!!!

Amidst all the gnashing of teeth about Manny's defection, it seems blindingly obvious to me that now is the time to bring the prodigal son, Tommy Gravesen, back into the fold. He is available, loves the club and is only 32 years old. He is exactly the sort of playmaker we need. If nothing else it would buy Moyes a bit of time to find a younger, long term alternative!

Couldn’t agree more. I mentioned this on another thread. I can’t see anyone willing to part with a midfielder worth their salt for any remotely reasonable fee this close to the deadline. Tommy until at least the summer would suit me fine. Am sure he would love to return and help us in Europe!

I agree..bring back Tommy G..no.. not me.. the other baldy one!!
at least until January window opens..
He’d be great to being on from the bench.. The one thing he always did was make an impact on a game..

I would love him back. I couldn’t help notice against Blackburn that the team had no real characters to get the crowd going, like Tommy or, to a lesser extent, Big Dunc. We could probably get him for around a million, which would be great value - bring him back...

No please do not bring back Gravesen. He cannot get in the Celtc team and should not and would not get in ours. We had the best out of hin but that only lasted for 6 months and then he moved on.
Is he an attacking midfielder who would push Tim out of the starting eleven. Is he a craetive midfielder who can step in for Arteta. I would suggest he is none of the above and would not even get in ahead of Carsley.
He had his time here Moyes had an option to buy didn’t take it and I agree with that decision.
If you look through blue tinted glassess maybe otherwise please NO!!!

Graveson is long past his best. If he wasn’t good enough for Real Madrid and Celtic why would we want him?
Lets be fair Mad Dog on his day was outstanding but he could also have games where he disappeared completely.
Moyes managed to get the best out of him for a few months and how did Mad Dog repay us? He fucked off first chance he got.
Lets not go back. Surely Moyes can find an up and coming young midfielder with a touch of craft and flair.

Do you know that wild wacky thought came to me as I slowly started to wake up this morning. I thought it was the onset of senility but then it gradually began to make sense. He would work well with Arteta and would bring much needed character into the midfield. And we’d get him for the price of the stamp duty on the Fernandez contract

Dutch, Tommy had the chance to join Real Madrid, arguably the biggest club in the world. You can’t hold it against him for going there. Tommy would be great, if only for the squad.

Danny Broderick, news flash, Everton are the best most incredible club in the world and any player chosing another club over us is a fucking idiot and doesn’t deserve to play for our great club.

No idea who the mystery man is but I bet he will either be big or hardworking or both.....not sure his skill factor is of any importance to our Manager. I will bet he is not as good as Fernandes.

club call full of shite- they only want you to ring so they make ££££££’s
all I say is give VDM a few gamed to hopefully find his form and maybe that is the answer- he and Baines on the ledt midfield could really work !!!!

Dutch, news flash for you, Tommy G is not an Everton fan like you or me. He is a footballer, and like any working professional, wanted to get to the top of his profession. I can’t blame him for going to play for Real as he reached his 30s, to play with Ronaldo, Beckham, Zidane etc. He might never have got the chance again.
That doesn’t mean he didn’t love Everton, just that he got an opportunity he couldn’t turn down. I am sure he would jump at the chance of coming back, and, among many others, I would love to have him back.

Andy

i would be very disappointed if we signed gravesen back, he only really showed us six months of decent football out of his 4 year stay, we can do much better than him and i expect signings to be better than gravesen.

The player on club call might be Papa Diop of Fulham? He’s looking to move, Moyes has been linked with him in the past and Sanchez is willing to listen to offers. And we need a midfielder now we have missed out on Fernandes...

Posted 28/08/2007 at 21:20:03
Please no!!!! Not graveson, we are meant to be moving forward not backwards.
Granted, he was great in flashes for us, but that was a different time and he not the player he was, his career is winding down now.
I would rather we not sign any midfielder than bring him back, we should be setting our standards way higher than that, FFS!!!!!
As for Nolan, i would have him as a fringe player for maybe 1.5m, but no way is he good enough to wear the blue jersey for a number of reasons!!
1. He is average
2. He is a red shite
3. He can only play with the long ball tactics.
4. He is a poor version of Cahill.
Graham Nolan
Posted 28/08/2007 at 21:33:39
Not Gravesen, please. He is not a playmaker. We are supposed to be moving forwards not backwards.

i honestly think cahill a better player than fernandes.hope it wright philips he will fit in a treat at everton.something else what will happen to our club soon we will be taken over

what a complete cock up by everybody behind the scenes at everton regarding the whole fernandes situation,a handshake nowadays means jack.he was overated anyway.get a midfield enforcer in who scares the life out of teams, diop is not only big and scary but he can play too, lets leave graveson and fernandes in the past and move forward.

the london star is probably the fulham lad....papa boupa diop (or whatever). Just what we need, a bit of physical presence instead of a midget!

NO we dont want tommy G he is over rated he only came good towards the end of his contract when he was aware that if he wanted another contract or decent club he had to improve, and left us fighting for Europe he didn’t consider us only himself,Nolan has already spoke in interviews about being a red and would never play for us so no way should we give him the chance to snub us

Steve I disegree I think Fernandes will be better than Arteta. What you have to remember is Fernandes is only 21 whereas Arteta is 25. Fernandes had all the technical ability and skill as Arteta aswell as more pace and a lot more strength.
Keith
Posted 28/08/2007 at 23:33:38
Regardless of whether Fernandes will be better than Arteta - it is pretty academic. We will never get him now, so need to move on and get another ball playing midfielder to complement Mikky.
Stephen Appiah or similar would do me.

Posted 28/08/2007 at 23:25:48
Even when Grav was inconsistent he was still by far our most creative player. The Opta stats in his last season or so with us were amongst the top 10 of midfielders in the premiership. Not too different from where Arteta’s were last season.
He went from being the big dog crowd favourite with us to being a tiny fish amongst hollywood all-stars. He appears to be an ego player. He was also played in the holding role there.
I have no idea why he hasn’t ripped up the SPL. But for £1-2m he would at least be a midfield player with the potential to get hold of a game and bring some creativity. We don’t have enough of that sort of player on the bench.
Fuck it, I just want him back for his humour and his slap head.

Fernandez would have been the icing on the cake. The cake is Arteta and Cahill. I like cake. I like cake with icing. But I hate icing on its own. Enough of the cake metaphor. Let’s not get carried away about this. Fernandez is a very skilful player but his performances have been patchy. He hardly set the world alight at Portsmouth, and although he had a great game v. Arsenal he was largely anonymous v. the Mancs until the goal. Cahill may be lacking in the circus stuff, but over a season he will win many more points for a club. As for Arteta, if you think Fernandez is or ever will be better than him, you haven’t been watching. Case closed amigos.

My feelings exactly in addition to be a truly great player you have to show some loyalty to the club. I believe Arteta has shown that to date.
Can the same be said about Manny not only in relation to us but also Benfica.
Probably a good player yes, better than Artera No.

Yeah lets bring Graveson back because we always do well when we give people who walked out on us a second chance like Andy King, Peter Beagrie,Nyarko, Francis Jeffers, Howard Kendall as manager ....... or perhaps not. Personally I think Grav can stew in the Celtic reserves and make John Sivebaeks life as his agent completely miserable which would be just desserts for that SOB unsettling him at Everton to begin with.
Andy Baker

Bring back Grav? Why he was fuckin shite for 3 years while we played 4-4-2 and with Yak soon to be arriving we aint gonna be aplyin 4-5-1 are we which we all know is the only time he actually done something. Plus the fact that its a massive backwards step. No not for me

Gravesen - NO! Real Madrid signed the wrong baldy headed Everton midfielder when they took a punt on Mad Dog. Carsley was the one in form at the time who put a shift in every week and made up for Tommy disappearing out of matches for long spells. His passing was often rank as well. Forget him.
Forget Diop as well. Not what we need unless the Dogs of War are to reappear. Craft, flair and style are what is needed. Also we do not need another player who will be lost to the African Nations Cup in Jan / Feb next year along with Yobo, Yak, Pienaar & possibly Anichebe.
Nolan - too like Cahill. I wouldve taken Barton ahead of Nolan.
I hate to say it but we might need to regroup and hang fire until January. I like everyone else sees the chronic need for a quality midfielder NOW! to take the pressure of Arteta but lets face it, its not going to happen in 3 days is it?
We completely messed up with Fernandes and now we have to reap what we’ve sown. The world and his wife know we have the cash as well so expect prices to go up a few mil for each no mark we’re linked with. Bolton would be looking £7m+ for Nolan based on tha fact West Ham paid the same for the original mercenary, Parker.
Stick the wedge in the pocket Davy. No panic buys! We wanted Gonzalez, Fernandes was our contingency. There is no contingency for Fernandes.
And don’t waste your hard earned on those joke Clubcall phone lines. Have they got a mole in each club who has the managers ear? Unlikely methinks. Its a big fucking scam.
Steve Claringbold

Pistol,
Totally agree with you, one clubcall phoneline for Everton said on it’s headlines today £20 Million international player to sign today.
Another said: German Wunderkid to sign. All for £1.50 a minute and signing up to further text messages at £2.00 a pop.
All bollocks, I’m gonna set my own up, I’m in the wrong job.

I agree Steve Arteta is a quality player but world class he is not. Why did he go missing against the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Man utd and Chelsea? Because those players read the way he plays and mark him out the game no problem. I am not saying Fernandes is world class either but he has more to his game than Mikky. They both have excellent technical ability and skill but Fernandes was a lot stronger and quicker.
Dont get me wrong I would rather have Arteta than Fernandes because he is at our club and is our player. But Fernandes in two to three years will be a better player.
