The Mail Bag

Fair play to the Reds.

I just watched the start of the Liverpool game and am humbled by the reception given to the family of Rhys Jones by the Anfield crowd. They are on this occasion a credit to their club and in there was a wry smile on many a face thinking of the young lad looking down and hearing Z-Cars at Anfield. May he rest in peace.

Hats off to the Reds for their use of Z Cars fro Rhys. As a gesture of thanks would it be to much for Everton fans to thank the reds at the next derby?

They did themselves proud tonight, a rare lump in the throat moment; football can seem trivial sometimes.

My usual emotions regarding them veer between hatred and disgust, annoyance and on V. rare occassions begrudging praise. But tonight they humbled me somewhat; I hope we would have it in us to do the same if boot was on other foot. I have no doubt we would.

RIP Rhys.

I would like to congratulate the Liverpool fans for the respect shown tonight as with Hillsborough in tragic times we are really together and all the stupid insults are forgotten pity that it takes such sad times to remind us we are all scousers

May I also say well done the reds, it was a nice gesture on their part.

If I remember rightly we have already done something similar back in April 89, when YNWA was played (and sung may I add) at Goodison the first game after Hillsborough.

At 47yrs old I’m still upset, to tears, over young Rhys. I wouldn’t normally watch "Them" on the box but tonight I made an exception. I felt nothing but respect for "Them". It took me back 20yrs to when rivalry was fierce but we were close. This tragic event may not be the catalyst, which will be a great pity.
Hope you had a smile on yer face little man.............Goodnight kidda. X

Rivallary should never get in the way of human tragedy and should be healthy, well done Liverpool, they showed we have the right kind of rivallry, with the vision to acknowledge our similarities, as well as differences.

Yes well done the reds for this gesture.

I watched this on TV and was impressed both by the dignity of the family and the fans.

Less than impressed by ITV who cut it short, talked over it then cut to an advert break showing the Bourne trailer including shootings. Dicks

Twas fair play to the reds this evening. For our younger supporters the majority of the Goodison crowd blue n red sang YNWA after the Hillsborough tragedy in 1989 (those that did not sing stood in silence)..
Just goes to show that sometimes are petty rivalries are shown up for what they are..petty...

Was indeed a very nice gesture and not one I was expecting to be honest.

Just checked the official EFC website and there is absolutely nothing on there about it. If the fans can bring themselves to show gratitude to our rivals shouldn’t the club do the same !? Yet another PR cock up by us.

Iain Latchford, let?s not be negative

The Reds did it for Rhys not Everton, and the boy was honoured

Well done the Reds

And well done to his family that are obviously so distressed. I have no idea, no idea how they?re ?coping? or how hard it must be

Soeone out there knows something about who did this and whether Blue or Red I hope they show bravery and come forward

The poor boy was only 11 and could not have done anything to deserve his fate

if you remember the first game after hillsboro was a derby at goodison.....you’ll never walk alone was played before the game. When needed the respect and dignity has worked both ways. This reflect on merseyside fans generally!

Well done Liverpool fans - at a time of real need we all feel the same and football takes a back seat.

Lets hope at the next Derby game at Goodison we cease hostilities and get back to being true suporters who can have banter with the opposition but still have a drink after the game.

But lets not forget the tragic circumstances and may little Rhys rest in peace and his mun, dad and brother get all the comfort they need.

I was not suprised by the Liverpool fans reaction or attitude, they are from the same City as we are. Maybe the best way we could thank them would be to stop morons of our own singing "Murderers" during Derby games?
