My Take On Things

I don't want to sound negative about Moyes because overall, he's probably the best manager we've had since Kendall (the first time), his methods do work and we've go the most exciting squad that we've had in years. There is always room for improvement though.

As far as this summer's transfer policy goes, it seems like Moyes was given a modicum to spend in June, which he decided tha t he didn't want to blow on just one player... Fernandes. Either that or the club decided that they wanted to send out the signal that they were skint to discourage other clubs from inflating their prices for players. We do seem to have dithered over Mani though sadly and it appears that the player's agents have decided to cash in by agreeing a deal elsewhere.

I do have reservations about Yakubu's attitude, but £11.25m for a player who is supposedly second only to Thierry Henry in the Premiership goalscoring charts for the last 4 seasons seems like good business to me... especially as Bent was £16m and Hargreaves nearer to £18M.

Moyes does also seem to have got it right with Nugent. I watched him in the U-21 Championships and he did seem to be especially ineffective. I would only have taken him on a free.

Who do we get in instead of Mani? I'm not keen on 'The Wardrobe' Diop. As the gaffer says, we need craft, flair and creativity. I'd love to have Van der Vaart, but I think the chances are very slim.

Sky Sports reports that Appy Arry wants to offload Nugent now after just 3 games. Let the speculation begin :-)

I just get this awful feeling that we will get a second rate or another work horse neither being up to what we require it seems par for the course I have gone from thinking this season was going to be better than last,to now wondering if we will end up mid table at best Manny was class him and Arteta as good as any midfield combo now I am scared to look at transfer news incase Nolan,Diop,or even worse Tommy Grav are signed

3   Posted 29/08/2007 at 01:13:24

I know he’s past his prime, but I think that Mendieta from Boro on a free could be a cracking little signing while we wait for Cahill and Vaughan to come back. He’d add creativity and give us an extra body for our European push without eating into our transfer budget.

4   Posted 29/08/2007 at 01:14:09

Class and craft is hard to come by and you have to pay a high premium for it... my hope is that Moyes has identified another ’affordable’ gem in the Fernandes / Arteta mould, but these players are so rare that I feel its unlikely; surely we would have gone in earlier. My suspicion is that we are priced out of the market for players who are the ’finished article’ and that we will, if lucky, sign yet another ’promising’ young player on loan again... and assess over the season whether or not he can make the grade. Such a player would hardly be a household name.
Nigel Gregson
5   Posted 29/08/2007 at 06:12:56

You guys are right about the over all ’class and graft’ package being hard to find. However, Moyes DID find Arteta and Fernandes. He also identified Sissoko relatively early. Who knows Pienaar might be the player we need ?

Anyway, a Manny equivalent will not happen in this transfer window unfortunately. It is simply too late for that.

Everton’s chief scout , Rob Cooke , is a very knowledgable man and has his finger on the pulse of most players and teams in European football , If there’s a player out there who ticks all the boxes then the wheel’s will be in motion as we speak , don’t be surprised if someone we haven’t considered turns up before friday ,

I too am gutted about the Fernandes U turn and have read the Valencia Web Site this morning. I’m trying not to blame the player as his head has obviously been guided by his agent in this case.

Ive watched footage of Peinaar however and he looks a cracking little player, maybe not as good as Manni but then we havent shelled out any cash yet for him.

Lets try and be positive about the future, we arent always going to get the players we want.

10   Posted 29/08/2007 at 09:01:33

Fletcher at Man Utd may be an option. More regular football would appeal to him and Ferguson may need to balance the books a little. Definitely a better bet than others we have been linked with and better than Neville in midfield.

I don’t agree that there is not enough time to buy another foreign player though. There would have been a list of possible targets in Moyes mind and but for the third party issue the Fernandes transfer would have gone through a lot quicker. How about gazumping Wenger for Modric.

Anthony "Tony" Hart (born 15 October 1925 in Maidstone, Kent) is an English artist and a former television presenter.

He was most famous for Hartbeat and introducing Morph to everyone on his show.
Allan
17   Posted 29/08/2007 at 10:05:36

Tony Hart’s creativity in midfield would be staggering, especially if we could get Morph to play in the hole behind the strikers!
Allan

I would hereby like to put forward the motion that Steve and I become new joint managers at Everton, and by that I don’t mean we’ll be AVDM’s new marijuana suppliers.
Keith Harrison
19   Posted 29/08/2007 at 10:12:57

Speaking of the hole Allan, what happened to your Nan last night ???
Keith
20   Posted 29/08/2007 at 10:14:42

Lads,

Morph (Garth Crooks) has a job acting posh while interviewing for MOTD, and is deffo not interested in playing again.

HOWEVER,
John Inman will come out of retirement, and will definitely play in the hole, and if we can sign Butt as his partner he will be delighted.

Allan,
You are too indecisive to be our manager, first you promise me your Nan, then Dave Lynch, and now you’ve got her on Ebay.

Wait a minute - you are exactly the man to be our manager. Not sure about Steve as player manager, remember me, him and your Nan are all squad members.
Steve Claringbold
21   Posted 29/08/2007 at 10:17:10

Allan, I would prefer more of a mentor role to Moyes. It would be a shame to sack the lad just so we could take over.

If we did get Tony Hart (the silver tongued old devil) I could imagine that he would end up with yer nan, this could cause problems.

Stan
22   Posted 29/08/2007 at 10:03:15

Philip, Stephen Appiah is a great shout. At £6.5m he would also represeent decent value. The only stumbling blocks could be wages and the fact that he’s another we could not afford to lose when the African Cup of Nations comes around.

There have been calls for Nolan and Tommy Grav, but I doubt that either are what we need in the long term. Tommys over the hill and Nolan has been of the boil for a while now. As for Darren Fletcher, lets hope not. Although the way in which those players can be dismissed demonstrates how difficult it is to bring in quality from what is available.
Allan
23   Posted 29/08/2007 at 10:22:41

Keith, my Nan ’had a fall’ in training late last night so my apologies; she’s ricked her hip again.

Other Keith, I’m not sure what you mean ;)

Steve, DM could always stay as manager, we could be directors of football, whatever that is. If Tony Hart goes anywhere near my Nan, I’ll have his throat with that crevatte he insists on wearing. I once met him y’know as a schoolboy for winning an art competition - true story.
Stan
24   Posted 29/08/2007 at 10:33:18

What about getting Rolf Harris in to partner Tony Hart?

Another Aussie in the squad can only be good for Tim Cahill and the end of season squad bbq.

25   Posted 29/08/2007 at 10:27:49

I can’t blame the club or Moyes for the Fernandes disaster although he was a cracking player and I was looking forward to him joining permanently. I think we’ve just experienced first hand the problem that’s wrong with footy today - unfortunately your word is no longer your bond and no-one could have predicted what was going to happen once he AND HIS AGENT (C**T!!) left the blackburn game. It’s very unlikely we’ll get anyone of quality now before Friday but I for one wouldn’t mind seeing the gravedigger back on a loan deal to tide us over til January. I know he’s past his best but he always played his heart out for the royal blue and if we only manage to get one crunching tackle on gerrard out of him all season he’ll be worth his weight in gold!
Steve Claringbold
26   Posted 29/08/2007 at 10:44:38

Allan,

I met Tony Hart once too, it was for a similar thing, I won an art competition in conjunction with Kodak, I got to meet Tony Hart, Jimmy Saville and Noel Edmonds. Good times.
Tony Hart is a lovely bloke, Jimmy Saville was mental and Noel was a bit pretentious (but I didn’t know what that meant at the time so I just told my mum he was a nob).
Keith Farley
27   Posted 29/08/2007 at 10:48:18

Yakubu will, I am sure, get over the appeal procedure and sign today but it seems so strange that Everton is willing to pay £11m for him when there was no willingness to pay £6m for Nugent who is younger and wanted to play for the Blues. The Fernandes debacle was laughable but not really too surprising. I like Kevin Nolan and would not be too disturbed about him joining Everton but I still think that much of this could have been completed about six weeks ago and not in a terrible rush in 72 hours!!
Keith Harrison
28   Posted 29/08/2007 at 10:53:23

Lads,
I never won any Art comps, but got a Bourneville (Cadbury’s) award for writing at Junior school. Won a full box of their goodies and a certificate. Discoverd none of my brothers liked dark chocolate which is why I have always bought it since then.

Have to break off now as I’ve just had an offering from the canteen Lucretia Borgia wouldn’t have served, and the Staff toilets are out of commission - I think the canary has gone on strike.

Speak to you at lunchtime when I go home for my dinner and some arret !!!

Mr Farley sir, surely you know that the mad rush at the end of the transfer window is......

THE EVERTON WAY.
Allan
30   Posted 29/08/2007 at 11:00:37

The best thing about the art competition I won, or maybe the worst thing, was that it was actually for doing my mates art homework (designing a Christmas card) I was only invited along as his guest seeing as it was him who ’won’ the comeptition.

Whilst there, Tony Hart beat the world record for drawing an elephant the fastest, or at least thats what they told us. It could’ve easily been a pack of lies, I was easily lead as a boy but lets not get into my private life.

I also once met Roy Castle, now he was truly a lovely bloke; I have a signed photo of him and me, he’s holding his trumpet.
Steve Claringbold
31   Posted 29/08/2007 at 11:10:06

Allan you should have told the police. Roy Castle could’ve been arrested for something like that. Look what happened to Gary Glitter.
Keith Harrison
32   Posted 29/08/2007 at 11:21:16

As long as he wasn’t blowing Allan’s trumpet I think he would have got away with it.
Allan
33   Posted 29/08/2007 at 11:27:22

I dont, and never have owned a trumpet Keith, therefore he couldnt ever have blown it. My Dad was a jazz musician and played sax all his life, he also played with Roy Castle a number of times. not sure how this is relevant but its kind of interesting and topical, at least in here.

Id really rather not look at what happened to Gary Glitter Steve.

Nugent isnt a prolific goalscorer but he’s excellent at linking play up - he wants ball to feet and he always makes himself available for passes . He could play in Cahill’s position , he knows what type of service forwards want , and could feed Johnson and Yakubu and obviously has an eye for goal himself.

If this fails, I can thrash out the odd chord on the guitar - or just mention the name of another follower - Riquelme.

Trust me my loyal subjects, and send me loads of cash.

Had to change the moniker with deference to my deity.

Brian, could you move your Wolf’s teeth a little farther back when praying before me please. My crotch is feeling nervous.

I am in awe of The Keith.

I am not worthy.

I’ll certainly be a bit Appiah if we sign him.

Keith - not only are you God - but you also have a Son! (I can’t remember reading that He will return with dogs, but that’s neither here nor there). Can you please deliver us Appiah by Friday please? I am now endeavouring to cover myself in tomato juice and paw prints - as all true followers should. I don’t know what that Wolf person is trying to get himself covered in - is he still kneeling in front of you?

All these targets it’ll be nice if we can get one in. Does anyone know what’s happened With the Yak appeal??

107   Posted 29/08/2007 at 13:45:36

So now we have the Moyesiah

We have the Messiah (Keith)

And we could have the Appiah.

If we sign Appiah, all the pubs will have an Appiah.

Shaka,

They’ve decided that the Yak isn’t appealing.

Appiah would be a great signing. He looked a class above in the world cup and even out shone Essien!

Brian, i wouldn’t be suprised!!

Even though he isn’t appealing they are still gonna enter him in Miss Middlesborough.

I wouldn’t get to excited about Appiah. It’s only a rumour. He would need work permit. He’ll be off in Jan. Everton don’t have enough time!! His current club are reluctant to sell. West Ham have also made a bid for him.

He is still bowed in reverence, and to all you true believers, your prayers will be answered on Friday.

I have sent a hispanic playmaker called Haysooos to Finch Farm. You will marvel at the wonders of him, and declare him a miracle worker in midfield.

Anyway, baby Jesus will be signed by Moysie on a six month trial basis, and will also run the Goodison catering franchise, so I hope you all like fish sandwiches.

His disciple Stephen (Appiah) will also land, and there will be much gnashing of teeth at Analfield when we f**k the RS again this season.

Must go now - Staff briefing at work, and I don’t mean Gabriel and the boys. This is my carefully disguised day job.

Just looking at that story on Sky Sports, that’s not Stephen Appiah, that’s DMX the rapper.

Bollocks, meant to put The Keith at the start of the last post (and not the Funeral march).

I’ve created a monster, I’m so sorry.

Jim P - I am a student of Nichiren Buddhism but my name is Allan Hobbs; the difference lies in that the latter is a means of identification, making sure people don’t confuse me with Brad Pitt, and the former is the path to enlightenment that I have chosen.

They are very different.

Allan - do you get a lot of people confusing you with Brad Pitt? To which you reply, No, I’m Allan Hobbs. Did you pray to look like Brad Pitt? Unfortunately I resemble an arm pitt. Such is life. Perhaps I’ll pray to Keith now ... sorry, The Keith.

Everton have just announced a press conference. Apparently we wiil be announcing the signings of Essien and Ronaldino and The Yak. Also thr truth about Manny. He was Kidnapped and threatened and signed For Valentia as he whistled to the tune of Z-Cars.Also how we refused to talk to Gerrards agent.

Happy Days COYB.

I often get confused for Brad Pitt, though only by myself sadly.

I don’t pray Jim, I do however chant daily.

Staff meeting over. Must get a new staff as befits my status, this old one of Gandalf’s is past it’s day.

A dutch bird at work (a Mormon by the way) says I have a voice like Mel Gibson, but I hate that anti-English b’stard.

I was mistaken for him by Stevie Wonder, and din’t have the heart to correct him. I should have got my Haysooos to cure him.

Got to interview an 18 year old chick now. The feathers must be crusty by now.

See you round 5.30

The Yak has signed oh yea of little faith. Blessed is the beast of burden (in Tibet). He shall be abominable to all our foes and score bagfulls.

Amen.
