Dear Tony Marsh...

Should you not, Tony, now apologize for accusing EFC, and specifically Bill Kenwright, of shafting us all by pretending to be signing Fernandes and Yakubu only to gain favour in respect of the Stadium vote?

If you wish to describe EFC's attempt to sign Fernandes as lazy, too slow, too late or even incompetent then I might agree with you but it was never what you argued it was. It was never a concerted attempt to lie to us. Whatever you think of the move to Kirkby (and I do understand how your feelings on that issue are engendered) it was a mistake to try to link the two in the way that you did.

We have now signed a striker who can resist being pushed off the ball, who is quite good in the air and who has a good shot in him. He also scored one of the best goals I have seen at Goodison in the last few years. And his record recently (as we all know) is second only to Henry as a goalscorer.

Try to see the move to Kirkby as a 'deposit' in the bank that is reasonably dependable (subject to further negotiations!) and who knows, if other options firm up, we don't know what could happen do we?

Let's not allow the Stadium issue to cloud everything pertaining to our club at the moment. Let us get behind the team for now, forget the Stadium for the moment because for the next few years we are still at Goodison anyway! The team is building and the most encouraging development for me is the recognition by David Moyes that we need more CRAFT in midfield!

Some of us, including yourself, have been saying that in our different ways for the past few seasons. Now the 'boss' is saying it! OK, the attempt to address it by signing Fernandes has failed, but let us concentrate on ensuring that the club continues to try to address it, rather than carrying on the argument over the move to Kirkby which may not even happen! I think any argument over our midfield on this website would not be divisive!

Tony Marsh wont apologise, are you having a laugh?

He will just find another excuse, or twisted perception.

Some people are so adamant that the club is there purely to ruin their lives, to conspire, and to lie and cheat that they will never see the positive.

I voted yes lads, but lets not start all this diviciveness all over again please.

I very rarely agreed with Tony’s views, as I did find them steeped heavily with vitriol. I did, however, ask for Micheal to rethink his decision to ban Tony, only to ask him to tone it down a lot of notches.

To be fair to the lad, he had a very reasonable post last night, and this seems to be goading him, even if that was not your original intention. Humour or how you mean to say things does not always translate well on the internet, and the opposite meaning it often taken.

Lets enjoy the new Tony, as without opposite (restrained) views on here, there wouldn’t be a forum.

You might enjoy one of the other threads I and a few others have been posting on today, with well over a hundred postings. Hope the humour on that one appeals to you, and lets all be united in all things Everton, especially if we get Appiah or similar now.

Well put but lets be honest if we all sat on here apologising for things we got wrong with the club.

Most of us would be here for a week or more.

Good signing a step in the right direction.

Get a life Dave. Tony brings a lot to this site. I enjoy reading he,s views, so do many many people who come on to this site. You must live a sheltered life if Tony Marsh bothers you that much. Get out a bit more son.

Simon, I think you are missing the point... hand on heart was Gonzales ever really a realistic target ? Looking back were Smith, Owen, Kuyt etc... ever realistic targets... we can say that ’you have to be in it to win it’ but lets take a reality check here... Everton have not been able to attract world-class players for years and those we have had either came through the ranks (Rooney) or didn’t look world class when we signed them (Arteta, Cahill, Howard).

Its great that we have expectations, its great that David Moyes can help players fulfil their potential... Yakubu is definately a big step in the right direction and hopefully he will complement AJ superbly... I commend Moyes for this signing and I COMMEND THE BOARD for funding it and doing the deal!

I also appreciate that DM has identified that we need some more creativity in midfield and I, like most, are anxious in hoping that we can beat the window for such a player.

But... please don’t be too quick to assume that everything that comes out of Goodison Park is gospel... the ’statement’ about the Fernandes transfer still leaves a lot to be desired... the truth about Kings Dock, Fortress, Rooney and so on.. is still hard to forget... why should we believe everything is black or white given the prescedents above.

Whether Fernandes was a set-up, who knows ? none of us on this forum that is for sure ... the player probably did chose to sign for Valencia just because of CL football or under duress from his agent... There is however, absolutely no denying that the fans wanted Fernandes and the club, at that point in time, needed the fans. 2+2=5 maybe, almost certainly given we now have the Yak, but until shown categorical evidence that the Fernandes bid was genuine I personally can’t form an axiom on this...

Regardless of the benefits or not of Kirkby, there is little denying that the club have backed the project wholeheartedly and in some ways agressively (in terms of dismissing alternatives in the media)... he motivation behind this approach may indeed be 100% genuine ... again I have no idea because I have not been privy to the information that the club has... have the fans been duped .. probably not... while a small element of doubt exists lets all do a service to our kids and their kids (hopefully all Evertonians) in MAKING SURE that this project, and any alternative suggestions have been researched and evaluated in the proper way.

Colin Malone,

I AM aware that Tony brings a lot to this site...but most of it is pure shite...like his allegation that the Yakubu signing was never going to happen and that BK was conning us all! It takes a big man to apologise for a big assertion proven ridiculous...I was just wondering whether Tony was big enough to make it that’s all!

Advice about ’getting a life’ is all a little immature so I won’t respond, but thanks for taking the trouble to offer it, owl fella!

Dave, Tony is looking a the form book of Everton under Kenwright, since he came to the club, Kings dock etc. Then Bill turns up with this glossy pamphlet with a new stadium on it.I,ll digress. I had a double glazing firm come to my house and the windows looked fantastic in the brochure with a after sales second to none. They did,nt look anything like as in the brochure and could i hell get them to remedy it. Also I think with this sudden influx of money. If Bill never came across, we,d be looking for a new manager now. I think i,d better get out more.

I knew there’d be all this "told you so" attitude off the pro-Kenwright lot. Tony Marsh was half right - Kenwright did pretend to sign Fernandes. The proof of this is that they announced he would be signing in the next 24 hours and now he plays for Valencia!
Neil Humphrey

I agree wholeheartedly with Dave. The minute the Fernandes transfer fell through Marsh resurfaced to crow about how Kenwright had conned us. Crucially, he also claimed that the Yakubu transfer was also part of this elaborate plan. The posts are still on the site. Its clear now that the neither transfer was part of any confidence trick from Kenwright (if that were the case, then why would we pull the less expensive transfer and sign the more expensive player, as as happened here?) - Marsh was dead wrong, plain and simple. Whether the Fernandes transfer failure was a result of EFC’s incompetence is a different issue as intent is the key here. However, even this is stretching the imagination, given the concrete evidence of (a) how long the English football authorities take with matters regarding 3rd party ownership, (b) the increased wages Fernandes is now on - more than we would have given him, and (c) the simple fact that Valencia are in the CL - an incentive for any player.

So Tony, can you admit you were wrong? And can you apologise?

Simon, come on mate.. can’t you recall Newcastle bidding for Rooney ... were they ever going to get him? Acrington Stanley could bid £5 for Ronaldinho .. nothing to stop them... if they had the money they could bid 85 million... would he agree personal terms ??? would this move help further his career ???

Is every bid a success... is every bid even intended to be a success; are some chairmen friends (i.e. Freddy Sheppard & BK at the time of the Rooney deal)... it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the transfer market is much more like a game of poker than you seem to think... if it is then maybe you can even cheat at it ?

Can I just remind those who are critical of the Fernandes deal about Jon Obi Mikel. He had actually signed for United and when the Chelsea money was dangled in front of him, he stamped his feet like a petulant child and demanded to be released. United were forced to take compensation.
It is not just Everton who have been victim to this type of carry on by continental players and agents.

If Tony has to apologise for being wrong about Manny&Yak then toffeeweb is going to be very busy from now on because going on your point then every one who posts regular at some time gets it wrong so will end up saying sorry maybe the boys could set up a "sorry "section to save us trawling through them all.Tonys only crime is his passion can sometime cloud his judgement,Like Dutch and Doddy we might not agree with them but this site would be poorer without them

If any one can find a sentence on this website where I said we wouldnt sign Yakubu I will most definetly apologise for it but you will not find one. I had a feeling that we would get Yakubu after the MF deal went tits up.Even BK couldnt pull a double edged sting like that off. After the Fernandez deal collapsed on Monday I said I thought it was a put up job by the club and that I would reserve Judgement untill wednesday as far as Yakubu was concerned. Please get your facts right ,learn to read or get your heads out of your arses. As usual I am being credited with things I never said. Its pretty lame to make accusations which have no substance to them.So I repeat find me the sentence or paragraph were you claim I made this remark about Yak not signing.

Awh FFS Tony!

You said nothing of the sort. You actually posted that you could see the Yakubu deal going, and I quote "pear-shaped" as well. At least have the decency to hold your hand up when you call it wrong.

Lay off him.
At least Tony has an opinion. know what ? I would rather read his passionate if sometimes kneejerk rants than the self appreciation society half of you lot belong to.
Football is about opinions and long may it be that way.
Then again. All you TM haters will probably slag me off and then go and pat yourselves on the back.
GET A FUCKING LIFE ! IT IS NOT YOUR CLUB IT IS OURS TO SAY WHAT WE FEEL ABOUT IT !

I think you should put up or shut up
If what you wrote about TM was untrue, then an apology is in order

there’s only one thing worse than a cheap shot, thats an untruthful cheap shot, in order to draw attention to yourself

as I say show us the quote or shut up

Agree with Mr Wilson.
Come on Mr Roberts. Apologise to Tony for making false statements.
What do you hope to achieve by taking cheap shots at a felow contributer.
Your posting was a waste of space and offensive.

Toffeeweb gives us all a forum to express ourselves about OUR club and long may it continue. Whether I agree with TM or not (and I often do) his passionate contributions add a great deal. Signing Yakubu is a great step forward, it’s curious why some want to use this as reason to have a go at fellow Evertonians. Let’s give Yak the number 9 shirt and add a quality, playmaking midfielder to improve the supply chain before the window closes!
