Value for Money?

Comments (8)

Initally, when I heard the news that the Yakubu deal had gone through, I was filled with delight as all everybody keeps revealing, he's second only to Thierry Henry in the Premier League goalscoring ranks in the last four years.

However, it then occured to me that Thierry Henry had been receiving passes from the likes of Fabregas, Pires, Bergkamp and Viera. Surely if Yakubu was receiving passes from Lee Cattermole, James Morrison and Fabio Rochemback, and still managing to score the goals he did he must have a lot quality.

If The Yak is to be value for money and be scoring 20 goals as he has suggested on the official website today, we need to be buying a midfielder that has quality and can be giving him the service that he deserves. We will also, if we purchase a quality midfielder (I personally am a huge fan of Stephen Appiah) see not only the best of Yakubu but also of AJ who we have seen starved of service (not counting 7ft hoofs!) throughout his career.

Moyes must buy a midfielder who will give our £19 million strike force the chance to fire us into hopefully the top four.

Andy Johnson hasn't scored since March. A little bit worrying but don't worry; we now have Yakubu... and he hasn't scored since February!Goals anyone?

The Yak has made 213 appearances in his professional career and scored 91 Goals.

That’s nearly a goal a game.

Steve, I take it that you meant his scoring ratio was a goal every other game

Steve, surely you can’t be serious... nobody’s maths can be that bad.

I agree, much more excited about Yakubu than I thought I would be. Appiah would be great, but well, I won’t hold my breath - especially with the Liverpool Properganda coming out with comments like "Kevin Nolan is being touted as a possible alternative, and at £5m he looks reasonably priced in today?s market"* - please God no.

Yeah, I’m not too worried about AJ having a barren run of late. The service to him does not play to his strengths. If we can get that central midfielder with the ’craft’ we desperately require, we might even see AJ scoring 15+ goals a season.
My mouth waters at the thought of the Yak playing alongside AJ or Vaughny, but only if we have enough ball players to give them the opportunities.
Bring on Bolton I say...

Give him a break, he’s only just mastered the ancient art of ’shoelace tying’ He’ll soon get to grips with basic maths, then it’ll be potty training, the lot!

I notice on Sky Sports News that Moyes is happy with the £11.25M paid for The Yak and I really hope he's right, but having seen what other clubs have dished out for players, would Everton have been better served paying the £6M for nugent, and £3M apiece for two attacking mids? Before I get lambasted, there are players out there around that figure, we just didn't spend the time looking.
