Incompetent but...

I know the club is run by a fairly incompetent bunch but given the Fernandes saga I would be truly shocked if the club were not at least negotiating to bring a midfielder in at this stage...although not necessarily a good one...

According to the Echo Everton are about to sign Gravesen. If this is true is it a forward or a backward step? I have my view!

Thomas Gravesen is back at Goodison Park after signing a loan deal until the end of the season.

Gravesen said: "I really look forward to coming back to Everton and to once again play at the top level."

Official site states we've got Gravesen back on loan. I assume this means we won't be seeing any new creative midfield players bought until January earliest. Not too sure about this move at all...

If this is the clubs answer to missing out on fernandes then it stinks to high heaven.
Graveson should be a squad player.
Hopefully he is just that and a big name midfielder will sign in the next 24 hours.
If not and he is the main signing then we really are a Mickey Mouse outfit.
How can you go from gonzales, riquelme and fernandes to tommy graveson.
Nothing against the guy but its kind of a step back.
Oh and if he is the only signing then watch the fernandes money dissapear

Just a snippet from the Liverpool Echo homepage:

"But Gravesen has not started a match for Celtic this season and has been told by Gordon Strachan that he is free to find another club, which has alerted Moyes, who last week saw top target Manuel Fernandes move to Valencia.

"Sheffield United and Manchester City have also made enquiries about the 31-year-old but it is looking increasingly likely that Gravesen will put pen-to-paper on a deal and was set to have a medical on Merseyside this evening."

It's on the special graphics, number 4. Not sure what I think of this, perhaps it's a free transfer.

Given Fernandes left us in the lurch with only 5 days to go it is a decent stop gap signing. Its a good move as its someone who knows the club & the manager so will settle in easily. Also with a loan signing it means he has something to prove to earn a contract.

It also leaves us with the Fernandes cash to spend in January

Spot on Chris,
Graveson is a very decent stop gap signing. It makes me laugh when fans say "he best be signing a top name before the deadline". What team in their right fecking mind would sell one of their prized assets on the eve of deadline day?
No one. Appiah aint no Fernandes-he would be an expensive mistake in my opinion as we need someone who can create. Graveson shown us what he can do in the Champions League assault two years back, and it is a wise aquisition if he can show similiar form for us again.
January should see the merry go round continue and we will soon see who will be in to fill the void left by the mercenary Fernandes.

Lay off the pills fellas.

Fernandes going to Valencia was not the fault of the club, despite TWs best effort to pin it to Kenwright/Wyness.

Graveson is for cover only, on loan so why not. I dont even like him but I can see the logic in Moyes’ move.

Tomorrow is the draw for the UEFA Cup and we could even see a decent midfielder thrown in the mix at 11.59pm.

Thats called ’glass half full’.
