Riquelme jets in for talks!

Well looks like we could get him after all according to the Daily Mail, but looks like on a loan rather than a full transfer... What do people think?
I think a loan move would be better then forking out £10 million for him, would be a great bit of business.

Personally, I don't care what terms we got him on — loan, borrow, steal — if he signs it'll be the coup of the summer. But I think I'll wait until he's holding the scarf above his head next to Kenwright's cheesy grin — 'cause you just know he would be there for that one — before I believe it!

Riquelme - great player. But is he what we need right now?
He is not the "midfield dynamo" that we need - someone who can physically dominate a midfield for 90 mins plus.

Whatever it takes, PLEASE sign him. Please put an attractive offer on the table Mr Kenright... also, please be a little more decisive and act promptly on this one.
We dont this to be the second world class (?) midfielder to get away...

I did notice this quote from Moyse on the teamtalk website.
Moyes still intends to spend more before the transfer window shuts tomorrow night.
He added: "I believe we could have maybe two more in by then." -
So maybe there might be someone else coming in before the deadline

He has stated that he doesnt like playing for Big clubs with lots of stars, he prefers to be the big fish in a little pond. Now i know that makes Everton sound abit pony but its true, were not a a big club in terms of world wide recognition.
His transfer to A Madrid fell through becuase they already have 3 Non EU players on their squad and are not willing to get rid of any of them.
personally i dont think it will happen, i think we will try and get Appiah but fail and then bring in someone crap like Diop etc

As most of you guys say, it would be amazing if he came in, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
Apparantly he’s a moody shite who needs to be the main man in the team. Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague said whoever captures his signing will have to cater for his needs.
"He is a very special customer - you have to be sure he is happy. If that means he has to be surrounded by people who speak his language then so be it."
Balague also sees Riquelme’s need to be the tactical focal point as a deciding factor between his next move being a success or not.
"He doesn’t adapt that well with clubs that do not play for him," said Balague.
"While Villarreal played for him he was happy, but when they changed their system he wasn’t, so he moved to Boca [Juniors].
"Boca don’t want him anymore, so it is a huge gamble if anybody wants to take him to England."
I’d say its still worth the gamble, especially on loan.

I believe that we will deffinately sign one player today maybe two.
I’ve heard that Moyes wants Riquelme and Appiah to come in, but will settle for just the one, most likely Riquelme on a year long loan.
It just makes your mouth water doesn’t it... look at a team you could have when everyone is fit (inc. bench)
Howard
Neville Yobo Lescott Baines
Arteta Jagielka Appiah/Riquelme
cahill
Yakubu Vaughan
Bench:
Wessels
AJ
Pienaar
Gravesen

Has your Nan passed her medical Allan ???? I had to break off from mine for a fag, but I’m taking the second part at 11.
I’ve got a 100% record for Cumbria interantionals - 1 game in Belgium 15 years ago against a weaving mill team. They didn’t like it up ’em sir. Said we English were too physical ’cos we tackled. This was the same lot that plied us with Stella and super strong Belgian lager before the match to aid their cause.
Stuffed them 9-2, with 2 carried off, and one collapsed at the reception afterwards (broken ankle).
Happy days.

My Grandma is a dish washer at the Meat Argentinian Restaurant in town, she says a gentleman called Riqulme, 3 men in black suits, a curly ginger guy, a baldy man with a big head, and someone who looked like Gordon Clegg from Coronation St have all come in for lunch. They have brought with them a portable fax machine and have thrust a pen and a piece of paper into the guys hand. Also a man in a white coat and a stethoscope has started to examine him at the same time.

Requelme is is a moody shite. Every now and again he looses the plot. If he signs he can upset the dressing room. Also the team has to play to his style otherwise his shite. His gotta be the main guy in the team who pulls all the strings. everythings is gotta go through him. I watched him play for Boca Juniors last year. He lashed out at opposition defender for putting his hand up his arse. and got sent off. Made me laugh.

Nice rumour ? which may have been true at one point (why draft a press release if there was nothing going on?). Personally I doubt it ? but will be happy if it comes off.
If Riquelme is a prima donna as has been widely reported ? then a loan is probably a good way to test if he can get on in our less glamorous team and the premiership.
My guess is he is looking for a ?host club? to get him into the premiership on loan and then jump to one of the money-bags Big-4 in the next transfer window (same as Tevez).
Not keen on that animal Diop or Nolan either ? but Appiah sounds interesting (but it’s likley too late).

I have to agree with Stan that Riquelme is more than worth the risk on a loan deal given his attitude.
Nevertheless even if we pulled this one off, would we still not be faced with a chronic lack of width in midfield?

Seth, Both DM and Keith Wyness have confirmed that there may be one more addition before the deadline so why are you so adamant it won’t be riquleme or appiah. Our luck seems to be changing as we have finally brought in some quality players and even got a good draw in the UEFA cup.

Back to work everyone....if you are like me...and haven’t done a tap all day..
Wyness’ body language and coded words telss us that business is done. He has to seem keen, hence is "mobile on statement". The Echo too are rarely "wrong" when acting as the club’s PR. They too say business is done.
We should all now join Moyes and turn our attention to Bolton and 3points up for grabs....although I have just heard our nemesis Kevin Davies is expected to play.

another point on LOANS:
They are not like the ?xmas puppy? ? they are not for life, and infact may not be even till Christmas.
They generally last until the owning club (or more likely agent in this case) wants them back or sells them to ManU or Chelsea for £25M when they have used a few months at Everton to shop window their skills. Often there is a very loose contractual commitment to a full season.
My point being: even if he arrives ? he may not be around for long.

Here’s some guy on the BBC website had to say.
Just heard from Guillem Balague (Sky Sports Spanish Expert) that there is no chance of Juan Roman Riquelme signing for Everton.
He reckons that the player is on the verge of signing for Atletico Madrid, and has no interest in coming to the premiership, even though his agent has had offers from various premiership clubs.
Shame, quality player, and would have been interesting to see how he would have coped with English football.
I have found Guillem Balague to be pretty acurate over the years and he has many contacts in Spain, so this is likely to me true.
