So did Riquelme fly into Merseyside today? Is Appiah in frantic talks with Blue Bill? Surely someone has been on lookout patrol at the JLA, Goodison, and wherever else transfers are agreed these days...

Anyone else noticed that Tommy hasn't been given a number on the Everton website? In particular, the number 10 is still up for grabs - now is this because it's (still!) being lined up for someone else, or just because Tommy's not necessarily going to be first choice, so doesn't warrant the number 10?

SSN is still reporting that we are getting Riquelme. Trying not to get excited. But - if the rumours are true - what a signing. Fuck Fernandes if we get Riquelme instead. Hope Valencia fall at the first hurdle in the CL and drop into UEFA, where we draw them and Tommy G breaks Fernandes? pelvis with an ill-judged two footed tackle that the ref misses.

Sorry to disappoint Bob but Tommy was given the #10 so its unfortunately not being saved for anyone else......Tommy talked about being #10 in his interview on EvertonTV.

Sky Sports aren?t saying we?ve signed Juan, they?re saying it?s either the biggest signing of the day, or the biggest red herring. I reckon it?s unlikely - "no-one?s seen hide nor hair of him all day" they say. Still exciting though, although I ?aint that bothered if we don?t get him, I don?t think he?d settle.

Surely there would have been something from Moyes or Wyness by now if anything was going to happen tonight... fingers crossed but it looks like whatever they were trying to pull off hasn?t worked out. Although, you?d think they?d come out and tell us that if it was the case too!!

It will be the same old story. We?ve missed out on the one we wanted (can?t mention his name!) so tomorrow will be ?we tried for xxx? but didn?t manage it in time..

Still Yakubu is a massive bonus and Mad Dog will plug the gap till January..

Terrymarsbar - couldnt agree more. If we sign nobody in the last few hours, I will still look upon this window as a productive one.

Yakubu is a great signing as is Baines and in Jags I think we have the future of or central mid dynamo. We just need that little bit of creativity to complement the tenancity of the likes of jags, carsley neveille et al.

Good transfer window for us, but thank god its almost over. This time tomorrow I will be sat in front of the telly instead of checking every fucking EFC related website.

My wife will be happy to get her husband back (or will she!!!!).

Cant get to the match tomorrow cos of a family bash (I know I know part time supporter) but will frantically try and find a pub to watch the yak.

What arte the odds on a 4-0 win (2 for Yak & 2 for AJ). COYB!!!

Make of it what you will, yesterday T.G. had the number 10 shirt on here, today it has been removed:

We all know who likes the number 10 shirt.

I wonder just how many Evertonians keep logging on to their computers hoping against hope that we sign somebody big before the transfer deadline at midnight. The sad thing is, Moyes is probably tucked up in bed, Wyness is at home counting the money in his piggybank and Kenwright is probably sitting in the front row of some London theatre watching one of his dodgy shows!

Its been an entertaining day anyway. Now lets get on with the football, 3 points against Bolton will do for a start.

18   Posted 31/08/2007 at 22:49:57

I?m assuming at 10.50pm we?re not signing anyone. I have reserved some of my anger towards our inept chairman following the Fernandes farce just in case he pulled one out of the bag to redeem himself.

He hasn?t so I?ll stick with my opinion of him that he couldn?t organise a piss up in a brewery. That is why I?m of quite a firm belief that we still won?t go to Kirkby because Kenwright really won?t be able to organise it.

Sorry to piss on our dreams, but it looks very very unlikely. There was a guy on talk sport who is a British reporter in spain and he said he knows chapter and verse about the requilme coming to everton.

He basically said that he has fallen out with the Villarreal coach and went to Boca on loan and likes it there, he then told Boca, "buy me on a 4 year contract and I will play for free in my final year". Boca could not get the money together and so he was going to be sold to Ath Madrid, a price had been agreed but the Ath madrid manager had a change of heart and said no.

Now moyes HAS been talking to his agent, but he said he does not want to play for us and he is digging his heels in.

The reporter over there said if it he comes to us by tonight it will be a miracle and if it does happen, we will have a player who does not want to play for us!

So.....I cannot see it.

It's 55 minutes to go, and no news about any new signings, let's hope the ones we have signed are legit. How about a tenner on the Yak to slot, at the Reebok, if eligible that is?

We?ve made some decent signings. a bit disappointed with Tommy as seems like a step back to the relegation fighting days. He will strengthen the squad though Juan Roman would be the business. It can wait until Jan though. We have enough to carry us until then

That's it, we get no one new another disappointing deadline day. Happy with the team but would'a been over the moon with Appiah or Riquelme. It's too late now, though.

26   Posted 31/08/2007 at 23:14:20

Am I the only one not so keen on the Riquelme transfer? OK yeah he is a good player and could even be our best. BUT for someone who of that age, un-tried in the prem and at that price I would sooner see Davie keep his fist tight for 6 months!

27   Posted 31/08/2007 at 23:18:55

I am really happy with our Transfer dealing this year. Sensible deals and all good quality footballers. The body blow was the Fernandes snub, and I genuinely believe we were all set to get him before Valencia snaffled us in the eleventh hour.
To go for someone like Appiah would in my eyes have been a knee jerk reaction. Appiah is a good athletic player who can get goals, but for me we should be complimenting the resources we have already got with a player who will deliver the ammunition for the likes of Johnson, Yakubu, and Cahill when he is back. The team is potentially full of goals, Arteta aside we just dont have the player who can consistenly thread a quality ball through the defence.
Really pleased with this summer personally, and I cant wait for tommorrow to hopefully see some of the new lads Start.

Would have been nice to get Riquelme, but we got Yak and Gravesen this week and got a nice pot of cash for Jan.

So all pretty positive from where i am sitting.

Neville
Baines
Yobo
Lescott
Arteta
Jagielka
Pienaar

I know the club aren’t responsible for rumours. But,they obviously knew that we have been linked with Riquelme all day. This is one of those times though, when I wish someone from the club would have come out and said this rumour was a load of bollocks, and we have no more signings in the pipeline. That way,we all could have went to bed.

So as I guessed when I asked the question No News. The thing that gets me is that well...it always get me. Transfer deadline day. I remember 2 years ago when we were about tosign Robbie Keane and Moyesy was in a hotel in London persuading him to join, it was all total bollocks. Now surely a bit of tabloid investigation could have nailed on or totally dismissed the suggestion that Riquelme was on a Liverpool bound flight. I assumed he was not- because the Daily Mail was the source of the story that he was. But surely some of your local hacks could have rolled up at Goodison and found out what- if anything- was going on ? But the sad fact is that our local writers are so smug in their position that they do not appear to get the tabloid adrenalin for the job. I say get Piers Morgan into the Echo and Daily Post on a loan deal- at least then we would find out what was really going on. He would have answered the question ’is Riquelme on merseyside ?’ long before most of us had taken our first taste of the breakfast toast.

Why do people put these rumours out. Its so frustrating. Cant believe we did not get him. Who puts this out. Why didnt someone from the club not make a statement earlier to clarify the sisuation.
Stuart Mitchell
36   Posted 31/08/2007 at 23:45:38

I think it was the Daily Mail that put the rumour out there!

But we must have been looking to sign someone as Wyness was saying on SPN that he would have his phone on till midnite.

Guess we will have to wait and see!

Got to agree with everyone saying Everton should have said we aren’t going to sign anyone, instead of the majority of us waiting up and waiting. Useless fat bastard Wyness cant even do us a favour and just say no instead of my phone will be on till midnight, what good is it going to be agreeing a fee at 11:59 and 59 seconds?

42   Posted 31/08/2007 at 21:46:09

What the doubters about this transfer are forgetting is that Riquelmé has GOT to sort out a move before the deadline or he'll be at Villarreal next season, and they desperately don't want him. If he's in Merseyside tonight then is there enough time to get another deal sorted other than Everton? I've not heard anything about Appiah or Nolan so I assume neither are up here sorting anything out.
Terry Smith
43   Posted 31/08/2007 at 23:51:30

Why doesnt Everton tell us all that Gravesen is the last piece of business for this window.Instead of keeping us all up for nothing.
Or they could of at leats rubbished the reports about Riquelme or Apiah flying in etc .

Just been watchin SSN and have to appluad the fact that Steve Bruce has come out and commented on the fact that the Brum lost out out on Luccini (is this his name) at the last minute. Thought he had signed then he hadnt. The club got led a merry dance....... sound familiar?

Now I know that deal was slightly different in the sense the palyer decided to stay at his original club as opposed to Mannys decision to go elsewhere for more money...... but why can Steve Bruce come out and talk about it but there is little from Mr Moyes or from other EFC sources other than a lame webiste statement?

I dont for one second suggest this is all down to Davey but somewhwere within the club someone must pull the strings when it comes to external comms?
Stuart Mitchell
47   Posted 01/09/2007 at 00:28:56

Everton Boss David Moyes tried to solve his creative problems with the attempts to sign Luka Mordic and Juan Roman Riquelme. Both deals fell through however
