Wyness and a life of deception

Comments (15)

Well, well, well. There is one hour to go and shock horror, no sign of Riquelme or Appiah!! Am I the only one thinking that Wyness raised expectation among the fans amongst earlier this afternoon when he skirted around the issue of deadline day signings when asked by a Sky Sports presenter? Of course, I will eat my words if, and it's a big if, if we do get any new signings in.

Did he tell us everton were going to sign a player? No. He said they would try, which im sure they did. It’s not his fault if you get over-excited.

Come on Matt, would he really expect us not to get excited when he doesnt deny the fact that Riquelme may sign. If the club did ’try’ to sign him, what could have went wrong? Again like the Fernandes deal we need an explanation from the club tomorrow to see who the target was and why it didn’t come off.

"we are linked with many players at this time of year". Whats to reads into that???

If the SSN reporter had of said so what about thisw £60million move for ronaldinho what would you have said? Its a dead cert...... it said so in the daily mail...... it must be true!

Since when was saying nothing a crime. I am as frustrated as the next man at not getting the final piece of the puzzle (who ever he may have been) but we still had a good window.

Bolton tomorrow - 3 points we hope and a couple for the yak!!!! Will people complain then?

I actually met with Keith Wyness earlier this evening in London for a buisness meeting, he told me that if the two deals he was expecting did not come off then the cash will be carried over to the January window together with an advance if needed dependent on our league position at the time

Some fans love to ask for a statement from the club.

Think about it. What if they said Mr x was negotiating with the blues and didn’t join coz he was money grabbing/didn’t like the cold/it wasn’t glamorous enough/he thought Moyes was a cock/whatever...

Whatever reason they give they are in danger of
1. Portraying the club in a bad light which deters future signings (and the growth of the fanbase)
2. Being seen as a club who hangs out their dirty laundry in public - what player wants to negotiate with a club when they know that if the negotiation fails, the club will blab everything.
3. Running the risk of finding the club on the end of a libel action as they will more than likely have very little evidence to back up the club’s story.

Surely a shrewd club, for long term success, meets players they are interested in... Has full and frank converations with them IN CONFIDENCE (otherwise full and frank will not occur) and then based on that both parties decide if the match is a good one...

Don’t interpret silence as duplicity, incompetence or that they haven’t been trying... It could be that they didn’t try so have nothing to talk about or that they did try but are too wise to talk about it.

Here Tom, you are so spot on....when my company recruits staff we don?t post on our website the ifs or may be?s....nor do we inform our customers which staff we might or might not be employing. Instead we quietly go about out business and employ staff that will give us an added dimension or take us to the next level....media and football have a lot in common!!

No need to go name calling now Paul Momber. We’re all fans who feel differently and are having an honest and frank discussion. I’ll forgive you this once and put it down to your tourettes.

Well, i did not think we would sign anyone if i was being honest.

Riquelme was never coming ( i did try to post this around 10pm last night but the site would not let me post anything?) He fell out with Vill boss, went on loan to Boca and liked it there, he told them to sign him on a four year contract and he would play for free in his final year, but Boca could not get the money together. Then Vill and Ath Madrid agreed a fee for him, but the Ath Madrid caoch decided against it. Moyes did speak to his agent but he said he DID NOT want to play for us and was digging his heels in.

I gort this from a reporter in spain who was talking on Talk Sport, he said he knew all abouth the whole link with EFC.

Appiah was always a no go to be fair, he was injurred and West Ham backed off for some reason.

On the one hand, i think we a desp short of a creative player in midfield who can create at leats half a dozen more chances in a match than we do and take the pressure of Mikey, but i would rather us have not bought anyone for the sake of it and pissed some of our money away. Come January, just maybe we will be greatfull we did not, but i am still a little pissed off.

The squad we have is going to be the best for years. It could be better but at least we can compete with the rest. Requelme may not have fitted in but Gravesen should easily find his feet. When Cahil is back we will have about 8 quality midfield players and you only need 4. We have 5 strikers and the defence is awash with players given the versatility of players like Neville and Jagielka.
The only problem will be finding the best 11.

Ron,on paper,I don’t think you would have much problem picking our best 11.

Paul Smith, why the hell do you think the club should have to disclose our transfer activites with YOU?

The fact of the matter is we tried to sign someone- it didn’t come off, like many other deals did so on deadline day. I’m sure other clubs’ fans will be dissapointed but they wouldn’t be expecting a public statement from the CEO.

Wyness quite clearly said on SkySports he was trying to get someone in (roughly 10:45pm). Just because a transfer didn’t happen doesn’t mean the club has to explain itself to you.

If they said "We didn’t manage to agree terms with (insert name of player)". That still wouldn’t satisfy you- you’d just ask more questions!

So pipe down and let it lie. The transfer window is now shut.

Yet more moaning for the sake of it.

How many clubs come out and make official statements that they won’t be signing anyone ?

Get a grip.

Ridiculous. The club gets criticised for conducting its transfer business in public (Fernandes etc.), and then gets criticised for not telling Uncle Tom and Cobbly and all who we are talking to!

Wyness said the only thing that was sensible in the circumstances.
