The Mail Bag

Same old mistakes

Comments (6)

Although deep down I never really expected anything to come off yesterday, the things that gave me anticipation were the comments from Moyes and Wyness. Moyes is normally very non-committal at his most positive so it was a big surprise to hear him quoted the way he was.

The result of course was the usual non-event. I hope that the club tried really hard, but it was wrong for the hierarchy to raise expectations. Its less than a week since the Fernandes deal fell through and we all know the bold statements that were made about that deal.

Lessons need to be learned quickly by the very naive people that run our club about when it's the right time to say something and when it's better to keep counsel.

At least we can now concentrate on the actual football on the pitch and let's hope that the coaching staff can get a group of talented players to start playing good football.

What a let-down. After being set up for Fernandes we end up with a has-been who couldn't hack it in Scotland. Very few players have an impact on their second spell at a club and I am thinking that he may only be a bench-warmer unless DM finally realises that Osman is not a starter ? as long as he is, the the Blues will struggle in midfield.

6 new signings this summer, I can live with that.
I also think Tommy G will suprise a few people.

Moyes said "maybe one more" which probably meant he was speaking to 1 or 2 players at the time and he was hopeful, but they didnt come off! Chances are was that if it was Riquelme then he was acting like a big-time charlie demanding silly money and guaranteed starting place - we just dont know so no-one can justify pointing the finger!

I’m hugely dissapointed that we didn’t pull something amazing out of the bag at the last minute... and though i tried not to raise my hopes, I was still like a kid before Christmas, hoping that I was going to get that amazing present that I really wanted.
However, it didn’t happen. We have strengthened that squad well, but I think everyone including the manager and board conceeds that we could have done with another midfielder... as they hinted.
But to have a go at them for passing comment is nothing shorty of childish. For Christ sake they get it in the neck for not saying what’s happening and yet if they say something then that’s wrong too... unless of course it comes off, in which case let’s slate them for doing it late, spending too much, ignoring the other vital area that needs bolstering!!
I realise we all have a right to opinion, but rather than critasisng the board and manager for letting you think we were on the brink of something amazing, turn your attentions towards the media or perhaps even, dare say, yourself.

I'm surprised at Moyes, maybe he def thought he could get someone in, but wyness spouting bullshit, surely not.. doesnt bode well for the new stadium now does it!!

I think Fernandes really stumped us. Moyes wants that World Class midfielder and he could not manage to find him in the few days after Fernandes knocked us back.
I actually applaud the boss for keeping the money and bring in some Temporary cover, even if he is no Fernandes, Gravesen will do a job.
Perhaps even in January there will be no one available, but rest assured this time next year there as long as we are in Europe, there will be a very big name midfielder at Everton.
