Blues pulled out fantastic win

Comments (28)

What a fabulous finish to a game that seemed to be going away from us. I was convinced DM had left his subs too late (yet again!).

Sounded like a fantastic breakaway goal for the Yak ? can't wait to see that one. I just love to watch us score breakaway goals by playing the ball along the ground...

Arteta was poor again, but Osman and Gravesen made all the difference. The tone of the game changed completely after they came on. And the just reward, though a long time coming, was of course most welcome. Great win, methinks!!!

"I was convinced DM had left his subs too late (yet again!)."

Well you were wrong. I thought Moyes did really well with the subs in this game. We were strugling badly when he made the subs and they played their part in our win today.

Always something to moan about. One day I would like to come on this site and not see moaning fans.

Get behind the manager, he must be doing something right???

Fucking happy days! We should really be trying to get into the Champions League places this season. Anyone else think Anelka is just a nasty, snide, little gobshite?

Nick, we very nearly gave away two points, and it could have been all three. Yes, we won, but it was down to the wire.

It was a great win today but I believe Moyes got lucky. I trust Barry Horne, I think he is a brilliant summarizer, always calls it exactly as he sees it, and if Baz says Moyes should have made the substituion earlier, then that?s good enough for me.

I?m still only at about 75% with Moyes (which is a big increase over the 32.8% approval rating I was giving him last season) but he has the whole of the season to convince me...

Paul, we just got a win against Bolton away. Moyes made the subs that changed the game, give the ginger one a break.

Bottom line is that we have played 4 teams from the top half in our first five games and sit second.

It's nice to have a manic fiend on the scene...don't yer think?

First can I please moan because I expected to be there today, But fate decreed it was not to be.I think a win today was great but more so because at the end we were going for the win too many times Ive seen us settle for a point away

Well it looks like Barry Horne was wrong. Moyes substitutions were perfectly timed.

I had the pleasure of watching the game on tv here in oz and will say that DM made the correct changes at the correct times, yes i can hear the sighs of disbelief! We played away from home and were challenged by an attacking team. We looked disjointed at times but i believe that is as we have a few new players in the starting 11. in saying that the only one who is taking time to adjust is Pienaar who of course has played in a slower, lesser league. Grav played well on his return and changed the game by imposing his belief not on us but on the other team. an attacking effort which was slightly less hoof ball. That is one thing we can be hapy with, only a few players left who only know that way

Just like Roy, I couldn’t get to the game today (Christening!) and I couldn’t even watch it on the PC. But the proudest words I heard were on BBC when summarizing the game somebody said ’...inspired by Thomas Gravesen...’ was he that good? I don’t know whether I will be able to stay awake long enough for when we appear on MOTD to check it out!

Well done Blues, second in the league and the RS haven’t played anybody yet (apart from Chelsea who they couldn’t beat!)

Made up with th result, Spit the Dog dive a disgrace, Anelka is a snide, good ball to feet movement for Yakubu’s goal and after what seemed like an eternity of end to end stuff Graveson delivered an inch perfect corner straight to Worf’s head for a bullet header, he went mental after that, can’t wait for him to do much more of that.

Roy Coyne, that is the only reason to moan today. Beat a difficult, physical Notlob side today at their place.

As for the substitutions, if Barry Horne is SO great, why is he a radio pundit and not a Premier League manager? Moyes obviously made the substitutions at the right time, otherwise we wouldn’t have won.

I fully agree with Mr.Toyne, stop moaning and enjoy that we are second after 5, and look to only get better.

"Inspired by Gravesen"

Goal from the Yak,
Supplied (in part) by Pienaar.

Jag gets promoted to CM second half, (Nev drops back)

Solid from Baines.

Great signings over the summer. Won the game with tactical substitutions. Second in the league...

Hands up who is still anti-Moyes?

Viv,

Let’s hope that DM now knows his starting eleven!

Great result.
Very difficult place to get a result at.

Made up with the result. If the truth be told we could have ended up with nothing - but fortune favours the brave.

Towards the end we were the only team looking to win it. Makes a change from hanging on, eh?

First goal was a direct result of attacking on two fronts with pace - never seen that for years.

The side looked better balanced towards the end of the game, the ball was kept on the ground more - even if the build ups were a little laboured. But if you keep the ball, the opposition cannot hurt you as much.

The major worry is that AJ continues to choose the wrong options when presented with chances that he has time to think about. He is beginning to look like a poor striker - at least a striker with no confidence, not totally sure which yet.

And yes, it was good to have Tommy G back - one flicked ball to Arteta near the end, whose pass inside Osman blasted over the bar was pure class!

Despite the frustrations, would not have missed the celebrations at the end for all the world!

Onwards and upwards!

First: 3pts
2nd: Win at Bolton ( tuff place to get a result)
3rd: New faces, give a bit of slack and time to gel.
4th: Was anyone carrying injury?
5th: Micky playing wrong side
6th: Subs as always later rather than sooner?
Hey top of the pile, are we making progress?

He made the decisive sub after an hour? Is that not soon enough? Should it have happened earlier.

Really, stop complaining.

Good result today against a side who allways make it difficult. Regarding the discussions about substitutions and when they should or should not have been made. I think the biggest thing regards this is we now actually have a bench with players that can actually come on and do a job. Today being the first example of hopefully many.

It makes a change from recent yeaars. To put this in perspective, I was looking around at european news and came across what is supposed to be our current squad. I am sure you will agrea that we would rather have what we have now. No wonder our last european adventure ended so soon.

I see we are fourth on tonight on MotD. Is this right for a club sitting second in the league?

why are people responding to the views of someone who didn’t see the game and admits he got his viewpoint from Barry Horne?

think of the players who was missing today like hibbert and stubbs mcfadden vaughan cahill maybe we can give them a run out in carling cup

Absolutely chuffed about the result today.
I believe we’re still crying out for a left-sided midfielder. Unfortunately for Arteta he was posted out there and really couldn’t get in the game. His best work is done down the right.
And lastly...How good is Lescott!!! Goals from your backs are invaluable. Great header!

Maybe Moyes didn’t get his starting line-up right but I thought his substitutions were spot on. In the period leading up to and following the goal we conceded, Bolton were all over us and had the game by the scruff of the neck, so to speak. Moyes needed to make a quick-fire change as the game was slipping away from us. 60 minutes gone, enter Gravesen, the man who I think not only changed the game on its head but proved many doubters wrong about his ability to pass a ball. By the time Osman came on, Bolton were rocking and it seemed like we were creating chances at will. It is a sign of progress when we can bring on the likes of Gravesen, Osman and Anichebe off the bench...keeping in mind that we still have Cahill and Vaughn to come back. Exciting times ahead lads!

Returning from Stansted Airport I immediately went in search of Saturday's highlights... couldn't find anything. So, on to ToffeeWeb.

In all honesty I was expecting the worst, but lo! 2-1, final minute, Yak on his debut! Then my eyes scan across the page to see Grav has re-signed! Double result! And where was I for the weekend? Munich! Obviously should have kept the faith!
